It's hard to believe that 2012 is uponus! Before I share with you the manyimportant things coming our way, let'sreflect on a few reasons we give Godthanks for 2011.

By God's grace, we retired our debtnearly 1 year ahead of schedule.

By God's grace, 10 people were bap-tized.

By God's grace, 56 new membersjoined our faith family.

By God's grace, 35,000 people at-tended "This Man Called Jesus."

By God's grace, we made many im-provements to the property, includinga renovated infant room and a beau-tiful fence around the playground.

By God's grace, Clay Robinson wascalled as Associate Pastor for Familieswith Children.

The list goes on and on, and I haveother lists of God's great work in ourcongregation that I'm not able toshare. 2011 has been an incredibleyear at LMBC.

Reflecting on God's provision in thepast is fuel for God's faithfulness in thefuture. What might God have in storefor us in 2012?

First, continue to pray for our searchteam who prayerfully seeks our Asso-ciate Pastor for Discipleship. They are:Alan Lord, Chad Fox, Andy Mc-Cormick, Kyle Guyton, Darlene Ander-son, and Michelle Harter. January is ahuge month for this team, and this po-sition is vital to the long term healthand growth of Lake Murray Baptist.Pray!

Second, I will be preaching a 4-weekseries called "Living Boldly in theGospel: a Vision for 2012." We will belooking at passages in 2 Corinthiansand Romans as we discuss what kindof church God is leading us to be-come, and what that means practi-cally for our congregation.Throughout the four weeks, I'll be shar-ing many of the things we are workingon as ministry leaders to lead our con-gregation into a new phase of healthand growth. You will not want to missthese times of worship!

Third, and related to our vision forboldness, be in prayer for our Site PlanDevelopment Team. They are: TedKoon, Dan Pitts, Robert McLeod, TonySteffee, Stan Smith, Sharon Canada,Andrea Martin, and Paige Scott. Con-gregation, Lake Murray has beenstagnant for more than ten years.Stagnation is the first stage of decline.God is calling us to step out in faithand follow Him into a new phase ofhealth and expansion. This will requiremuch of us that I know we will joyfullygive if we trust and obey God to leadthis team and our congregation as awhole. As this team meets weekly topray and plan, we look forward to giv-ing you updates as we go. Pray hardfor this team ... for unity, passion, andjoy in the work, not to mention a sup-portive and excited congregation!

Fourth, make plans to attend a specialevent planned for February 19th!Singer/Songwriter/Comedians Beanand Bailey will be with us for worshipand a wonderful show that evening aswe celebrate our 30th anniversary asa congregation. We will take time inthe service to reflect on the church'shistory and pray for the future, andsimply enjoy one another's companythat evening as we laugh togetherwith these outstanding entertainers!Details will be forthcoming, but savethe date!

Finally, perhaps you are already considering the implications of a freshstart with a new year. I certainly am.Throughout his life, Jonathan Edwardsdid the same, and he kept his list, which continues to inspire countlessothers. His first, I believe, is hispoignant, and I leave you with it.

Resolved, that I will do whatsoever Ithink to be most to God’s glory, andmy own good, profit and pleasure, inthe whole of my duration, without anyconsideration of the time, whethernow, or never so many myriad’s ofages hence. Resolved to do whateverI think to be my duty and most for thegood and advantage of mankind ingeneral. Resolved to do this, whateverdifficulties I meet with, how many andhow great soever.

PASTOR’S BIBLE STUDY WEDNESDAYS, 6:15 - 7:30PMJoin Pastor Rob at 6:15pm in the Adult Education Building for a new class beginingJanuary 4th - “Battling Unbelief” by John Piper. When Faith Flickers, Stoke the FireNo one sins out of duty. We sin because it offers some promise of happiness. Thatpromise enslaves us– until we believe that God is more desirable than life itself (Psalm63: 3). Only the power of God’ s superior promises in the gospel can emancipate ourhearts from servitude to the shallow promises and fleeting pleasures of sin.In ten thirty-minute sessions, pastor John Piper shows how to sever the clinging roots ofsin that ensnare us, including anxiety, pride, shame, impatience, covetousness, bitter-ness, despondency, and lust.

Delighting in the bounty of God’ s glorious gospel promises will free us for a less sin-encumbered life, to the gloryof Christ. Rooted in solid biblical reflection, this book aims to help guide you through the battles to the joys ofvictory by the power of the gospel and its superior pleasure.

"RUN FOR GOD" is a new Bible study designed to prepare people to be betterwitnesses for Christ physically, mentally, and spiritually. This 12-week class facil-itated by Wally Bledsoe begins Wed. night, Jan. 11th and will take place on Wednesdays at 6:15pm in room 102 of theadult education building. What a blessing it is to see our peoplebecome more and more missional atLake Murray Baptist. You have againsurprised me the last two months asyou have taken on project after proj-ect in serving the needs in our commu-nity and our own church family. I amsure there were many countless otheracts of kindness that I am not evenaware of, but I am thrilled to reportthat the opportunities that were publi-cized church wide through SundaySchool were quickly scooped up by SSclasses and small groups desiring tomake a difference this Christmas sea-son in the lives of those that God hascalled us to tend to the most. Themessage in literally hundreds of versesin the Bible is very simple: help the fa-therless, the widows and the poor. Iwant to highlight a few of these en-deavors without naming names. Godknows who you were and He gets theglory for calling you unto Himself andthen fully equipping you so that youcan serve Him in mighty ways.

One Sunday School class adopted theCentral Midlands Transitional Retreat ina huge way. They did an Undy Sun-day Drive in their class and work-places, bringing in much neededunder garments for the men at our VA

Shelter right here in Lexington. Theyalso gathered warm blankets for theguys to keep them warm at night dur-ing the winter months. These guysdon’t arrive at the shelter with addi-tional clothes for sleeping in, but ratheronly the clothes on their backs.

Another class adopted five teenagegirls at Samaritan’s Well Women’s Shel-ter, also right here in Lexington. Un-usual for Samaritan’s Well, they tookon five teenage girls within a fewweeks period. These girls arrived at theshelter as most arrive at shelters, with-out much more than the clothes ontheir backs. We can only imagine howtough that is for high school girls goingto school each day. So these SundaySchool class members collectedmoney from their classmates and fromtheir workplaces and raised $1,500 totake the girls Christmas shopping oneevening!

Lake Murray Baptist Kindergarten alsodid a Thanksgiving Feast for Samari-tan’s Well collecting paper products, nonperishable and gift cards.

To highlight a few more: anothergroup of LMB folksprovided a NewYear’s Eve feast andcelebration at the VAShelter. Several LMBCfamilies served at theSalvation Army in Co-lumbia serving upmeals. Many SS

classes took up a collection through-out November helping to supplementour Benevolence Fund, providingmuch needed help to families in ourown church. Three families wereadopted for Christmas outside of ourown church family by Sunday Schoolclasses. By the way, ALL of the individ-ual families you served over the lastcouple of months were families with-out husbands/fathers in the home. Well Done Good and Faithfull Servantsof Lake Murray Baptist Church!!

Matthew 25:37-40 “Then these right-eous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when didwe ever see you hungry and feedyou? Or thirsty and give you somethingto drink? Or a stranger and show youhospitality? Or naked and give youclothing? When did we ever see yousick or in prison, and visit you?’ And theKing will tell them, ‘I assure you, whenyou did it to one of the least of thesemy brothers and sisters, you weredoing it to me!’
