Safety Update

From the desk of Ms “C”In the fall of 2013, a new, updated “Trinity

Safety Guidelines Booklet for the Protectionof Children, Youth, and Those Who WorkWith Them” was published. These updates, are general in nature, for they apply to severalage groups and the volunteers who work with

children. They were prepared by: John Moen, chair,

(safety liason at Luther Hospital), Officer John Rush

(EC Police Dept.), Marlee Knickerbocker, Anne

Josephson and Cassie Brenden (TLC Youth), Heather

Day (TLC office), Mary Schoenknecht (Children’s

Ministry Director at the time), and me. Other input

was obtained in meetings and discussions with

Pastors: Kurt Jacobson, Sarah Semmler Smith,

Brahm Semmler-Smith, and Jim Page. A council

representative and lawyer, Derek Preston, also

reviewed our guidelines. In addition, information was

gathered from area churches and schools in the

preparation of this safety booklet.

It can be found on the Trinity website.

Each TLC program, such as Noah’s Ark, hasestablished specific safety procedures as

recommended by this Safety Task Force. I addspecifics each month in this article, as they

directly relate to you, as Noah’s Ark parents.

It is always our intention to build trust betweenparents, children, and teachers. Please be sureto ask if you have specific questions about the

safety of children during school days at Trinity. We have made significant changes in the last

two years: outside building door numbers, NAfamilies to use Doors 1 & 2 when bringing

children, directing food pantry clients to Door#4 and hallway, classroom door locks, hallway

signage for events at TLC, and more.

You should know, that we emphasize safety inour processes at NA as we do fire drills,

lockdowns, and tornado drills. Children’sconfidence grows by practicing these safeprocedures. Through these drills, they are

reminded that their teachers care for them andtake their safety seriously!

The Noah’s Ark staff is dedicated to yourchildren and happy days for them at school!

Help us buildthe “Food

Wall”During the months of

November and

December, we are

building a “food wall”.

Children are invited to share non-perishable canned

and boxed items for the Christmas sharing project.

Families will be identified by the Inter-Faith

Hospitality Network, coordinated with Kristy Casto,

Children’s Ministry Director. If you’d like to help,

place food items outside the classroom doors. Look

for signs! Hungry children will be thankful for your

gift!

www.loveandlogic.com

by Charles Fay

(from November 13 )th

What’s the FIRST Rule of

Love & Logic?

Take Good Care of Yourself...by setting limitswithout anger, lectures, threats or repeated

warnings.

Many parents feel guilty about puttingthemselves first. Why? Because they have alittle voice in their head that is always telling

them what good parents “should” do. For example:

Good parents should do everything for their kidsGood parents should sacrifice all of their own

needs so that their children are neveruncomfortable

Good parents should never be happy if their kidsaren’t

Don’t fall into the trap of raising your kidsaccording to these “shoulds.” Doing so

creates kids who aren’t prepared for the realworld. Doing so also creates kids who are a

terror to be around!

When we put our children first all of the time,we are typically too drained to show them howmuch we love them. Never feel guilty about

taking good care of yourself. Feel guilty if you don’t!

Birthday Parties for JESUS

We’ll be celebrating Jesus’ birthday on ,Tuesday & Wednesday, December 16 &th

17 with birthday cake, gift exchanges,th

fun music, and special activities.

*If you’d like to provide the “Birthdaycake”, please sign up on the kid boards’

soon.

*We’ll also have a gift exchange at ourparty that day with our

class mates. Boys can bringa gift for a boy, and girlscan bring a gift for a girl.
