ITS GRAND FINAL WEEK That’s right. This Sunday is a big day for the club as four of our competitive grades play in the Grand Final in the hope of taking home the flag for 2015.
The day kicks off at 11.20am with the U12’s taking on Golden Grove. This is a rematch of the Semi final which saw our players take the win for first spot in the grand final in what was an exciting game. Under coach Trevor, these players have what it takes to bring home the flag. Following is our U13’s tak-ing on Tea Tree Gully at 1pm. The U13s finished 3rd overall and their confi-dence has sky rocketed getting them to the Grand Final. No doubt they can go all the way under coach Stewart. Concluding the junior finals is our tal-ented U15 team who are playing Modbury at 3pm. Another rematch from the semi final in what was a nail biting effort by the boys securing their spot in grand final. Under coach Gavin, these boys are not only skilled but deter-mined in what will be a great match to watch. All junior games will be played at Argana Park oval, Midway/Mavros Rd, Elizabeth Downs.
And lets not forget our Open Women's team. In a battle for grand final spot, the ladies achieved their place as they take on rivals Adelaide Uni at 3pm Sun-day at Adelaide Stadium Oval, Thebarton.
Put on your Black & Gold and support the Owls in their quest for 4 out of 4 wins in the 2015 season Grand Final.

Affiliation with Adelaide Plains Football League
Following last week’s Adelaide Plains Football League affiliation ballot, the votes were tallied with the result being in favour of submitting an application to the APFL for affiliation in the 2016 season. Discussion’s being had around the junior circle in relation to the APFL affiliation raised concerns, however please rest assured that the AVFC affiliation with NEMJFA will remain unchanged. However, to meet our APFL affiliation obligations we will be required to submit a full complement of Senior men (A & B’s), Senior colts (U17) and Junior colts (U14). Based on the growth and success the juniors have experienced so far this year it is expected that this will continue into the 2016 session and instead of turning kids away because of capacity levels we will now be able to provide another alternative with an option to submit teams in the APFL mini colts competition. There is no doubt that the AVFC seniors will face the biggest change and challenge since its inception and unlike the SA Amateur Football League (SAAFL) the APFL has only one division so there is neither time nor room for complacency if we are to be competitive in the coming session. With this change in direction it is expected that a change in culture will follow with bringing us one step closer to achieving the “ONE CLUB CULTURE” - a goal which was adopted at the beginning of the year. For those who may not know AVFC has a history dating back to 1926 and below is an extract of an email sent to the club by the Mallala district council. I thought this was important to share as the Lower North Football Association went on to be known as the Adelaide Plains Football League according to history, so it could be said that the AVFC is going back to its roots. 1926-31- member of the Lower North Football Association 1932- in recess 1934 – 1935 – Gawler & Districts Football Association – B Grade competition 1936-37 – returned to Lower North Football Association 1938 - did not reform (WW2 broke out in 1939 and all country football associations went into recession during the war) many did not reform after the war. Grand Finals played: 1927 – Angle Vale 9-5 defeated Korunye 6-8 1935 - Angle Vale defeated Smithfield (no scores available) 1936 – Virginia 7-9 defeated Angle Vale 5-4
In the coming weeks the club will send out regular updates and important information as it becomes available, without a doubt there is much to be done in order to be ready for the 2016 season. Please don’t hesitate to approach President—Paul Healey with any questions you may have. Please also be advised, AVFC have not suggested that the AVNC will join forces within the Adelaide Plains Netball Association and it is understood discussions are continuing between the AVNC and its members on their affiliation also.
Not going away and looking for something to do with the
kids during the holidays? Come to our Open Air Cinema at
AVFC on 2nd Oct. and watch Alexander and the terrible,
horrible, no good, very bad day
