Activity - Fast Food role play Topic: Food Age group: 10-12 Main language items Materials needed Remarks Vocabulary: Fast food items Prices Grammar and structures: I’d like a Big Burger That’s $ 2,75

Worksheet - fast food cards - price cards - Burger World menu

What to do: Preparation:

Make copies of the Fast Food Cards worksheet and the price cards worksheet (one per each group). Cut them into cards.

Make copies of the Burger World Menu (one per group). Procedure:

1. Divide the class into groups of three of four and give each group a set of Fast Food Cards, a set of price cards, and a Burger World Menu.

2. Have students shuffle the two decks separately and deal an equal number of cards from each deck to each player. Odd number cards are set aside.

3. One player starts by looking at the price cards he/she is holding and, using the Burger World Menu, asks for an item of the player to his left that costs that amount, saying for example, “I’d like a Big Burger.”

4. If the player to the left has the item, he/she says, “OK. That’s $ 2.75,” and the two players exchange cards and place them both down on the table.

5. If the player to the left does not have the item, he/she says, “Sorry, I’m out of Big Burgers,” and the two players must draw a card at random from each other’s hand.

6. Play then goes to the player to the left to choose a price card and ask for the appropriate item of the person to his/her left.

7. If a player has no price cards when it’s his/her turn to ask for an item, he/she draws a card from the person to his/her left and waits for the next turn to make the next play.

8. The object is to be the first person to place all of one’s card on the table. Option

Have students role play fast food clerk and customer(s), using the Burger World Menu. When customers request an item, the clerk produces the correct card. Customers order three or four items from the menu. After customers have ordered, the fast food clerks calculate the total amounts. Customers then hand over the correct money using the price cards.
