WelcomeWe extend a very warm welcome to everyone who joins us for worship. Whether you are a visitor or a regular parishioner of the Anglican Church, you are invited to join us in Holy Communion. Please make yourself known to us and if you would like more information about our community and ministry, then please take a copy of our welcome brochure, visit our website or ask one of our welcomers.

Today’s worship:It’s all about dancing.Last week, we were encouraged to GO! The graphic is here again.Sometimes, the best dances are done in pairs. What sort of dancing are you doing in going out to spread the word? Are you stumbling in your sandals, or doing some stylised ritual around your staff that you are carrying?Today’s readings give us the tale of two dances. David dances exuberantly before the Ark of the Covenant. This is the one that would be housed in the Temple that his son Solomon would build, and be part of the gift of the Kings of Israel for generations. Later, we hear off another dance, this time before a King of Israel which has dire consequences for a prophet of the Ark of the Covenant. Two dances: two fates.Which dance are we doing as we GO?The accompanying music is best summed up by the beginning of Paul’s mighty letter to the Ephesians:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love.”

It is a stately dance that provides us the melodic and rhythmic interest that keeps us all on our toes.

The Great ThanksgivingThe Lord be with you.

And also with you.Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is indeed right, it is our duty and our joy,at all times and in all places to give you thanks and praise, holy Father, heavenly King, almighty and eternal God,through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord.

For he is your living Word;through him you have created all things from the beginning, and formed us in you own image. Through him you have freed us from the slavery of sin, giving him to be born of a woman and to die upon the cross;you raised him from the deadand exalted him to your right hand on high.

Through him you have sent upon us your holy and life giving Spirit, and made us a people for your own possession. Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven,we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. XBlessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Merciful God, we thank you for these gifts of your creation, this bread and wine,and we pray that by your Word and Holy Spirit,we who eat and drink themmay be partakers of Christ’s body and blood.On the night he was betrayed Jesus took bread;

9

and when he had given you thankshe broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying,‘Take, eat. This is my body given for you.Do this in remembrance of me.’

After supper, he took the cup,and again giving thankshe gave it to his disciples, saying,‘Drink from this, all of you. This is my blood of the new covenantshed for you and for manyfor the forgiveness of sins.Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’

Let us proclaim the Mystery of FaithChrist has died.Christ is risen.Christ will come again.

Therefore we do as our Saviour has commanded:proclaiming his offering of himselfmade once for all upon the cross, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming again,we celebrate, with this bread and this cup,his one perfect and sufficient sacrificefor the sins of the whole world.

Renew us by your Holy Spiritunite us in the body of your Son,and bring us with all your peopleinto the joy of your eternal kingdom;through Jesus Christ our Lord, with whom, and in whom,in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,we worship you, Father,in songs of never-ending praise:

Blessing and honour and glory and power are yours for ever and ever. Amen.

Page 10: Anglican Parish of Gisborne · the Lord who is mighty in battle.’ Response Lift up your heads, ... Let us stand to affirm our faith. I believe in God ... Lift up your hearts. We

10

As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are confident to pray:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sinsas we forgive those who sin against us.Save us from the time of trialand deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread and CommunionAs this broken bread was once many grains, which have been gathered together and made one bread:

so may your Church be gatheredfrom the ends of the earth into your kingdom.

Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us.Jesus, bearer of our sins, have mercy on us.Jesus, redeemer of the world, grant us your peace.

Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.Blessed are those who are called to his supper.

Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.

Come, this is the table, not of the Church, but of the Lord. All are welcome at his supper.

All centres: Together in Song 609May the mind of Christ my Saviour

The peace of God which passes all understanding keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord;and the blessing of God almighty, the X Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you always. Amen.
