TUTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Residential Centre Teachers Anglophiles Academic is a well-established, private educational company founded in 1973 with a reputation for quality and professionalism. We run English language courses and activity programmes for young overseas visitors throughout the UK and abroad. Students are aged between 11-17 and are mainly from France. Anglophiles Academic was accredited by ABLS (Accreditation Body for Language Services) in September 2013. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ALL TEACHERS
• To teach up to 36 hours per week
• To arrive punctually for classes and to teach the full number of hours required • To teach English to a high standard following Anglophiles Academic syllabus.
• To Submit a Course Plan to the Director of Studies prior to the course, within the
Anglophiles’ standard format
• To make the lessons stimulating and enjoyable for students with emphasis on the practical use of English in everyday situations
• To present all your students on the last teaching day a summary of the course work covered
• To maintain proper levels of discipline, safety, and well being of students in your care
• To assist the on-site Director of Studies (DoS) with language testing and placement of students in classes of appropriate levels of English
• To advise the DoS, (or the Centre Manager in centres where there is no DoS), of any
disciplines problems in class, such as absence, lateness or of any student welfare concerns e.g. bullying.
• To ensure that the DoS receives all required reports at the end of every day
• To ensure that, in lessons prior to any excursion, students are prepared and informed
about any such forthcoming excursion
• To complete Daily Report Sheets, End of Course Summary Report, individual Students’ Reports, Students’ Register of Attendance, and any other reports required by Anglophiles Academic
• To respond appropriately to general emergencies when necessary
FULL-TIME TEACHERS ONLY RESIDING ON RESIDENTIAL CENTRES
PASTORALCARE/WELFARE OF STUDENTS • To assist with and actively participate in out-of-class activities and to help with centre
preparations prior to students’ arrival
• To accompany and supervise students on full day excursions
• To assist in the residential supervision duties, including meal supervision and bedtime supervision Patrol and lights out in accordance with centre rules plus any other general welfare duties
NON-RESIDENTIAL TUTORS
• For non-residential tutors up to 36 hours EFL tutoring per week and supervision during breaks, and lunchtime break when teaching in the afternoons.
• Attend meetings as requested by the on-site DoS outside of class hours • Non-residential tutors MUST live locally and within a commutable distance
RESIDENTIAL TUTORS
• Residential teachers will be accommodated on a FULL BOARD basis

• To teach up to 15 hours per week, except for Music Live/Extreme Sports courses that may require teaching up to 30 hours per week
• To arrive punctually for classes and to teach the full number hours required
• To teach English to a high standard following Anglophiles Academic Language Course Syllabus
• To submit a Course Plan to the Anglophiles Academic Director prior to the course, in the Anglophiles’ standard format
• To administer English language tests, written and oral, on the first day of each course, and adjust students into appropriate classes based on the provisional class lists
• To conduct an orientation session with students on the first day of each course
• To make the lessons stimulating and enjoyable for students with emphasis on the practical use
of English in everyday situations
• To ensure that, in lessons prior to excursions, students are prepared and informed about any such forthcoming excursions
• To present all your students on the last teaching day a summary of the course work covered
• To maintain proper levels of discipline, safety, and well being of students in your care, and to advise the Anglophiles Head Office if there are any students who misbehave in class, are absent, or late attending lessons, and of any student welfare concerns e.g. bullying
• To liaise with other Anglophiles members of staff including Local Organisers and Foreign
Group Leaders
• To complete Daily Report Sheets, End of Course Summary Report, individual Students’ Reports, Students’ Register of Attendance, and any other reports required by Anglophiles Academic by the end of the course
• If working on full-time basis, to accompany and supervise students on all excursions and
activities included in the programme, and to assist with the supervision of the mid-morning and lunchtime breaks
• If working on a mornings-only basis, to complete the classroom teaching as specified above and on the programme and to assist with the supervision of the mid-morning break
• To respond appropriately to general emergencies when necessary
Director of Studies Residential Centres
Anglophiles Academic is a well-established, private educational company founded in 1973 with a reputation for quality and professionalism. We run English language courses and activity programmes for young overseas visitors throughout the UK and abroad. Students are aged between 11-17 and are mainly from France. Anglophiles Academic was accredited by ABLS (Accreditation Body for Language Services) in September 2013. The Director of Studies (DoS) is in charge of the academic programme at our residential centres at Leicester University and Funcoast World. You will see below that the work is a demanding mix of administrative tasks and people management. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Managing the teaching team by giving support and guidance where necessary helping teachers perform to their maximum potential and to overcome any problems with the preparation and delivery of their teaching programme
Observing, appraising and submitting reports on all teaching team members
for Anglophiles Head Office
Timetabling classes
Running weekly planning workshops for all teachers
Ensuring that all lessons start and end on time
Teaching when necessary to meet operational demands
Ensuring that Anglophiles Academic Health and Safety Policies are implemented and adhered to at all times
Organising and managing students’ placement tests at the start of each course
to ensure students are placed by language level in the appropriate class
Checking Class Registers on a daily basis
Supporting the Centre Manager in the smooth and effective running of the centre and assisting him/her with setting up and closing the centre
Liaising closely with the Anglophiles Head Office Academic Director and
keeping him/her informed at all times of progress and problems
Ensuring that all teachers’ and students’ textbooks, and any other tuition materials sent to the centre, are accounted for at all times
Ensuring that all the Teachers paperwork (including Daily Reports, Course
Summary Reports, Course Plans etc) is up-to-date, correctly filed and received in the London Office at the end of each course
Ensuring that all Student Questionnaires are completed and returned promptly, and that any necessary action during the course is implemented arising from their analysis
Ensuring that students are given Reports and Attendance Certificates by the
end of each course
Supporting the teachers in sourcing materials for preparing lessons, and helping teachers plan, the classroom lessons that precede excursions off site and a follow up slot
The DoS reports directly to the Centre Manager on site and the Academic Director at Anglophiles Head Office
Presenting yourself well; being of smart appearance, appropriate to the role and using appropriate language
You are working with children. Consuming alcohol, substance abuse and smoking are not permitted at any time in the school building or during working hours. Staff must be fit to supervise students at all times. Failure to abide by these rules will be treated as a serious disciplinary matter and could lead to immediate dismissal. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Mother tongue must be English Must have a minimum of a CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL/PGCE TEFL Minimum of four years teaching experience Ability to lead and manage an academic team Ability to mentor and guide newly qualified teachers Excellent communication skills Proven leadership skills Excellent organisational skills Ability to work effectively under pressure
Diploma level qualified* (DELTA or Dip TESOL) or similar qualifications:
experience in the field of academic management will be reviewed and considered.
Previous residential summer school experience REMUNERATION
Remuneration is dependant on the size of the centre and the experience held
by the applicant
Successful applicants will be required to attend one-day management training
prior to the start of the course in addition to the tutor briefing day for their centre.
