Animals

I visited the zoo again. The animals were all behind a fence or glass.

I watched them feed the ray

We smiled as the lion fell asleep.

I counted the deer (behind ostrich).

We watched some animals being fed.

Activities at the Zoo

I loved exploring the tunnel in the aquarium.

We were able to get inside the fence to pet some animals. I loved the lambs, but they were pretty big, and I was not sure about getting too close to them. The sprinkler was cool & fun.

Bengali Community: Durga Puja

Maa Durga is the mother goddess. Bengalis celebrate her with specific pujas for the girls, called Kanya Puja.

There are also pujas for the mothers to do. Ma is playing for my protection from evil

After the puja, a few of my friends and I recited and danced to Bengali poems: Hatim a tim tim, Aye Minnie puss puss, & Olina ghumolo. Then we drew our impressions of the goddess Durga.

Bengali Community: Borshoboron

For the Bengali New Year we recited and danced to Lal Jhuti Kakatua. We had to practice for several weeks.

I also practiced alone just before the show, and then waited with my friends until it was our turn to go on stage.

Holi

Indians celebrate Holi (Spring festival) with colored powder. I got a bag with my favorite color: pink. Look how it made my hand pink.

My friends Elena and Kavi also came to celebrate Holi. I threw pink to Kavi, and he threw the green powder on me.

Princess

I love princesses, so my Ma & Baba took me to Disney World. My Ma picked me up so I could Mickey and the princessses on stage. Then I got to meet some princesses. When I came home I played with my Disney and Indian princess dolls.

My 4th Birthday: Two cakes

I wanted a Princess birthday. My first attempt at celebrating my 4th birthday was snowed out. Elena and Kavi walked over to my home for the first “castle” cake. I had a 2nd cake at the Children’s Museum with everyone else.

My 4th Birthday

We decorated tiaras and wands first with hearts, stars, dinosaurs and animals. Then we played in the studio.

After eating cake, the wands became bats and the balloons became balls. And we ran around using our wands for magic. In the studio we made colored paper

PBS Kids

I love PBS Kids. I visited with Mr Steve and the characters from Super Why! Mr Steve sang many songs. I love his pattern song: “Circle Circle”.

We read a Super Why! Story and then took pictures.

Singing and Dancing

I love singing nursery rhymes and acting them. On long car trips I just imagine what the music is telling me. I tap my fingers and hear birds tweeting and the water falling. I love the big bands that I see on T.V. I wish I had a band of my own. I pretending to play all sorts of instruments. I love dancing to the music. I can act out my imagination of the music. I went to a dance camp & learnt howto become small & big, run & stop, jump high & low. After my camp I was choreographing on my own: I’m a butterfly!

Inspiration

The falling leaves inspired me to make an earring, necklace and bracelet. Cups of winter snow became a castle that I colored in pink.

Making Chocolate

I love chocolate too. My Ma and Baba took me to Hershey to see how chocolate is made. I dressed up with a gown & a hat. Then I pressed the buttons to decide what chocolate I wanted.

The robot picked up the chocolate bar and dropped it on the machine (top).Then it added the sprinkles and covered it with chocolate. (look it says Olina M on the bottom display!)

Idlewild

Idlewild was fun: I got into the “little engine” in the story book world, rode funrides, and playedwith balls and water.

The other pictures were all from durga puja – not saraswati puja – these are the only ones that I had grabbed for the saraswati puja… do you want me to include it ? Last year we had a goddess photo which described it well

Thamma

Thamma came to see me. She joined me at my table for breakfast while Ma was cooking. I like to play on the computer when I eat.

I took her to the museum to show her the dinosaurs. She read about the dinosaurs; I played on the computer.

Dinosaurs at the Museum

I’m learning a lot about dinosaurs. I placed the dinosaurs on land and the water areas of the play mat so everyone knows which ones walk and which ones swim. The Pteranodons fly, so I flew around with them.

Then I went to make a story of the dinosaurs using the pictures. Some dinosaurs eat leaves from the trees. Others live in grassy areas. It was fun sticking the magnets to make a story.
