Our Cartoon and Comic Arts degree, for example, is the only course of its kind in the UK, while our Stop Motion Animation degree is also one of only 2 courses in the UK to offer Puppet-making.

I CHOSE THE ANIMATION COURSE BECAUSE OF THE FANTASTIC RESOURCES AVAILABLE AND THE ENTHUSIASM OF THE STAFF. I WASNT DISAPPOINTED. Designed to provide a solid grounding in storyboarding and storytelling, through drawings and artwork, our Cartoon and Comic Arts degree is for individuals who love graphics, animation and illustration and are passionate about gaining the skills necessary for employment, self-employment or freelance work in what is a truly fascinating industry.

They include: John Charles (MarvelUK 2000AD), Kevin Gunstone (Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and Image), Simon Donald from Viz Comics, David Lloyd V for Vendetta and Aces weekly web comic and Freelance MarvelUK Artist Jon Haward (Spiderman and 2000AD) and portfolio consultant Fig Taylor. Plus if the chance to meet some of the true heroes of the profession wasnt enough, weve also hosted guest lectures by a number of industry stars, including: Frazer Irving (Batman and the Uncanny X-Men), Graham Humphries (storyboarding and film poster design), and Neil Gibson (web comics).
DEVELOP NARRATIVE AND CHARACTER
Join us on this exciting course and well nurture you in the art of visual communication the skill of letting images and words explain narratives. Learning how to develop narrative and character to strengthen and support visual imagery, youll work from concept to final design, investigating every aspect of the characters you create whether theyre satirical caricatures, anthropomorphic figures or super heroes.
GAIN AN ENTERPRISING SPIRIT
We know that many students choose to set up in business or freelance when they graduate. Thats why well make sure youre equipped with strong enterprise and entrepreneurial skills. Our students have already sold work at MCM Expo and the London Super Comic Convention. Were now looking towards exhibiting in Europe, the United States (New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con) and even the East ,to stretch the talents of Cartoon and Comic Arts students.

BUILD YOUR SKILLS
Because cartoons and comics cover such a huge field, well concentrate on building your drawing skills and make sure youre familiar with using the latest technologies all to give you a firm understanding of how the industry is developing.
WORK PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Real world of work experience is essential for equipping you with the skills that industry demands. Thats why well go to great lengths to find highly worthwhile placement opportunities. Organisations our students have worked with include: Glorious Creative, Manchester; Love Design, Manchester; Coley Porter Bell, London; Jackson Hammond, Stoke-on-Trent; Mother Advertising, London; 300 Million, London; Saatchi & Saatchi, London; Dinosaur of Manchester, The Sunday Times and more.
Although our Cartoon and Comic Arts degree was only introduced a few years ago, our students are already being employed in a wide range of fields that call on outstanding skills. These jobs include: concept designer for a potential graphic novel, storyboarding for a BBC 3 TV series, producing work for the Guardian Newspaper, designing artwork for local companies, working with the NHS Design Group to produce childrens literature, and working as a concept designer alongside games companies. As you can see, the opportunities that a Cartoon and Comic Arts degree can open up for you are wide and varied. Because, during your studies, youll also be encouraged to produce work, have it printed and discover market places in which it can be sold, youll have a better idea of future employment opportunities after graduation.
