“All achievements, all earned riches, have their beginning in an idea.”

Napoleon Hill

The students at Arena Andheri had an idea to share, all the joys and up-dates with everyone, so we came up with Anivolution. We will keep you up-to-date about the latest happening of Arena; what we really do and what extra knowledge we acquire.

We at Arena Andheri are happy with what we learn, and this clearly reflects our work and its outcome that earns us awards. It shows in the Awards we bagged at events such as Aakruti and Creative Minds which gave stu-dents a way ahead. On the whole, it was a great learning experience for everyone with industry reviews acting as icing on the cake.

This new revolution is not only about learning, but it is “Learning with Fun”, thanks to out-of-the-box projects. Putting together this inaugural issue was fun and tiring; we did learn a lot sometimes the hard way. We also met peo-ple from our industry, who were more than gracious to share their thoughts and ideas. Their experiences are a goldmine, which we have shared with all of our readers.

Like we said, it all began with an idea, and no idea can grow without brain-storming and healthy discussions. We will catch you again with our next issue, and we promise to offer some great experiences and ideas to share.

Happy Reading!

AERO GPS SySTEMA radio ad on a GPS system which has fast and perfect tracking system, can even track something that is difficult to trace. An interesting ad with an even interesting execu-tion, here’s what the group has to say about their project.

“While travelling we listen to the radio a lot, so we just thought of making an ad on something differ-ent and innovative. So we came up with this idea.

We finalized the concept and recorded it, making the necessary changes by editing and added the required effects.

We took just one Day to execute the entire project. The major problem we faced was that we didn’t know how to use the software, which background sound to use, differ-ent types of vocals to be used etc.

FlINT MIRAGEThe ad is about break-free glass. The ad starts with a bur-glar who tries to barge into a bungalow where a Golden idol of Buddha is kept. He tries to enter the room by break-ing into the glass barrier, but fails in all his attempts. The ad thus describes Break free Flint Mirage glass. Here’s the students’ side of the story.

“For This Concept we needed strong pre – pro-duction, and we dedicated 15 to 20 days just for that. Then, the next step was sketching the character, backgrounds and the scenes. After all that was done rending was the only biggest

problem that we faced. Whenever we rendered a scene we realized that we committed some mistake and then we had to make c hanges and put it to re-render.

The main thing we learnt is to be very clear with the con-cept. Rendering, one of the biggest problem; we learnt to tackle well. We also learnt that we have to keep good time flow for rendering and editing. overall, we learnt many new things.

BlIND lOVE 3D

This 3D movie revolves around a boy who, under wrong influence of video takes up the bad habit of smoking. He starts believing that smoking will

make him look cool and get him a girl by his side. He doesn’t realize that he is not heading towards embrac-ing his love but his Death. This movie beautifully sym-bolized “cigarette” as “love” which becomes his “Kiss of Death”. Here’s what the members of the group have to say about their project.

“First we finalized with the concept and wrote the story. We later started with the story board, made the characters and the backgrounds. Af-ter everything was modeled properly we moved on to the animation part.

We faced problems during rendering, as we had very less time left for it. After a particular scene was rendered we realized our mistake. Had to re-animate the scene and render it again.

Overall, it was an excellent experience. We learnt about the project pipeline and how rendering is done for ani-mation. We were at top of the world when we realized our project won.

Af ter the grand success of Photo-shop CS5.5, Adobe is ready with its new and an advanced version

of Photoshop CS6. The release of Adobe Photoshop CS6

Public Beta gives both new and current users, a chance to explore the latest ad-ditions to the company’s venerable image editing application. After a long period of 22 years, the team at Adobe has given the Photoshop a complete makeover.

It has become a norm for Adobe and is intended not only to generate excitement about new features but also full version updates of Photoshop are preceded.Photoshop caters to a wide range of pro-fessionals, from designers and illustrators

to forensic scientists and 3D animators. For freshers, the entire user interface

has received a makeover, with a new color scheme and redesigned icons. Content-Aware technology has been applied to both the Patch tool a brand new Move tool. A collection of photographic blur fil-ters have also been introduced video edit-ing support will be made available in both the Standard and Extended shipping ver-sions of Photoshop CS6.

Many other enhancements tool such like larger brush sizes and faster filter performance can be seen. Adobe suggests a video card with a minimum of 512MB VrAM. But CS6 will not support 32-bit machines.

ADoBe PHoToSHoP CS6 ( BeTA) is new ready tobe explored with its interestingly new features.

AdoBe PhotoShoP CS6

It is the first version of Photoshop to take video editing seriously and to make it into the Stan-dard edition of the product. It’s the first version to integrate the company’s GPU-accelerating Mercury Graphics Engine (MGE) and for the first time in more than 20 years, Photoshop goes dark.

The most important additions in CS6 are Pho-toshop’s ability to automatically save your open document(s) at user specified intervals. In addi-tion, you can have Photoshop perform all of its Save operations in the background. When edit-ing large files this allows you to continue work-ing after hitting ‘save’ instead of waiting for a progress bar to complete.

Adobe has essentially turned Photoshop Ex-tended edition into a tool specifically for people who need 3D capabilities, moving the video-ed-iting tools down into Standard edition. 3D ca-pabilities and interface sound like they’ve been substantially improved, with faster and better

ray tracing and extrusions, interactive shadows and 3D stereo view-ing and printing.

Overall, Photoshop CS6 looks like a solid update with some really useful additions and improvements.

Vaibhav More is an eminent personality in the industry to look forward to. He has been catering to the animation industry with best of his works. His immense knowl-edge about animation, be it 2D or 3D, got us interested

in finding out the key to his success.

Vaibhav More, a graduate from Sir J.J Institute of Applied Arts, Mumbai is specialized in 2D as well as 3D animation. He has worked for various brands including MTV, Vh1, Nickelode-on, Disney, Zee TV, Star movies, Cartoon Network, and the list goes on. Besides this he has even done an animated promo for

the movie Peepli live on Zee TV with Aamir Khan and viral animation for Yash raj films.

He started his career at the age of 19, as a freelancer with Times of India and Femina. In 13 years of his successful career, he won many awards. His recent achievements include 4 Promax Gold Asia awards for 2011.Vaibhav More, is now a proud owner of Vaib-hav More Films Studio and is also an idol for many students as well as professional animators.

Now let’s dive in a little into his life, to know what it takes to be Vaibhav More.

How did your career begin?

I started my career as a freelancer with Times of India and Fe-mina. With Times I worked as a caricature artist and an illustrator with Femina when I was student of Sir J.J institute of Applied arts, Mumbai. As a student that was my first project. As I developed in my professional life my first project was an ad for Microsoft Vista on MTV.

Where did you work before you opened your own studio?

Creatorshat with

Vaibhav More, the proud owner of Vaibhav More

Film Studio reveals the path to his

successful career.

INduSTRy INTERVIEW

I did storyboard designing for ad agencies, screen printing for visiting cards, I even helped my seniors for making miniature models of buildings. I used to sharpen the doors and windows of the miniature with blades for the entire day.I developed my skills in designing and animation. I like drawing characters which help me in my animation as well as help mod-elers for their model sheets.

What does your portfolio include?

Animation interested me to a great deal. You will see my portfolio will ma-jorly include 20-30 sec TV promos which I made it for MTV, Vh1. My current project is a TV commercial which includes live shoot as well as animation.

What was your first project that you worked on?

The first project I did was for Microsoft Vista, which was quite challenging for me as I didn’t know the basic principles of animation and editing ap-plications. It was a great learning experience. I keep learning and finding out what comes new in 2D and 3D animation as this field is so dynamic that the more you learn, the better it gets for you

Besides having a small studio, how do you manage to complete your projects in deadline?

Whenever I take up a project in my hand I take a day to analyse as how much of time would it take to complete the work. Then I dissect it in into 3 parts: pre-production, production and post-production, then decide how much time it will take to complete each section and finish it as per the stipulated deadline. In order to complete my work, I stay in my office for the entire night, just to fin- ish my projects on time.

Vaibhav More Films is now a brand. How does that make you feel?

I feel good to see Vaibhav More Film studio climbing a ladder to great suc-cess. But I would always say it’s just the beginning as my ambition is to deliver quality animation work, not only as 20- 30 second ads, but to make short animation films and cater to big companies in the industry.

What skills you would look up in a per-son for recruiting?

I look forward to work with the people who are passionate about their work and have a desire to move ahead in their lives. I will also go through their show reel to see how passionate they are. If the person

is passionate about his work he can do anything and can complete his work on time.

What advice would you give to the youngsters who want to make a career in the animation industry?

Just to add a last word, people who want to make a career in the animation industry should first find their passion and love for animation. Not only that, but also get certain information on the field. If the person is passionate about their work and thinks they can do justice to their work, they will find their way within this industry.

Memories are integral part of every individual’s life be it a child, a youngster or an old person. These memories become a mirror of your past which helps us to re-live the moments. Moments once

gone never come back. Then why not to capture and treasure them.

The art of capturing memories is been practised since ages. Ini-tially it was done by carving on the walls or painting on canvas. It was difficult to capture everything at that particular moment. Now, after the invent of cameras it has become easy to capture and gather and draw what you see digitally.

There are different types of photography and apecialize to de-velop and excellent career:

lent sense of composition and lighting.

This style of photography need not only be about professional models, it can encompass any kind of a person. Family portrait photographs are very much in demand but this does not mean it’s all about a basic snapshot. There are many creative ways a photographer can use to make a portrait photograph look equally stunning!

PhotojournalismThis genre of photography is used mainly by publications to represent the latest news. In this case, the photographer’s visu-als and the writer’s story should compliment each other.

Macro PhotographyThis style of photography is completely about close-up images of the particular subject. This style is used particularly to cap-ture details of organisms or nature that may not be visible to the naked eye.

Aerial PhotographyA photographer in the aerial photography, needs to be an ex-pert at capturing images from an elevated position. 1.)What are the initial settings that needs to be set when a project is to be executed? A)In this line project is never executed . Space , appear-ance of the people should be set in such a way that the picture talks.

2.)Is there any difference in settings for indoor and outdoor photography?A)Both the settings are different. outdoor needs sun light and indoor needs artificial lights. It i want to shoot in one light , i can shoot a piacture in indoor.and this is not possible in outdoor shoots.

3.)What are the light setups used in indoor pho-tography?A)In indoor shoots , lights depends on person to person, product to product and what the theme is. Portfolio for female is been shoot on minimum 2 lights specially for garments shoot.

6.)How do i adjust proper depth of field for a photograph?A)Depth of field is like when taking a photograph of a person, the surrounding view is blurred. Different lenses are used for this matter.

7.)How are the adjustments done post clicking?A)All are done in photoshop It helps create contrast, sharpness and set color tones as desired.

8.)What is the scope for an amateur to take up photography as a professional ?A)This is a vast field. It is not just about Fashion Photog-raphy, there are nature photography, product photog-raphy, Macro Photography etc. Any one can be a pho-tographer. It has become very much digital and easy. A person just needs to be very clear with basics.

Fanta “mAnn UChhAl UChhAl JAAye”

This melody is simply awesome. The idea is very nicely put, with no celebrity, no seduction , no urging to sip. Just a bunch of cute 3D characters which inflicts fun and mischief

onto the screen . One of the best ads running these days. “taste ka jadoo chhaye, mann uchhal uchhal jaaye”! Jump!.

As part of this initiative, consumers will get a taste of the Fanta experience through interactive games like trampoline, crystal ball, Fanta milestones, etc, at mostly youth hangouts, key colleges and select malls. The theme has been kept with the ‘Taste that makes you jump’.

Fanta, positioned worldwide as a ‘more bubbly, less serious’ drink, reverts to its playful-animation-without any-solid-script approach. The thump in the tune blends with the jumpy characters, cars and buildings in the visuals. As compared to 2011s ad there is a memo-rable line”mann uchal uchal jaaye” there is enough feel-good in this one.

Very catchy lyrics with usage of hindi diction. This ad is of 30sec. Rigging, lighting , texturing and animation of ad is so effective even after the ad is over, the song lingers on. This ad is very much effective on children as well as elders. Music compiled by Amit Trivedi and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. They hav given a youthful flavour to it.

The 3D characters are created by psycop from new york based animated agency .the coca cola indian company has been thriv-ing to continue on fanta’s less serious , more fun image. Thus resulting in their ZFZM concept for the indian screens includ-ing unlimited fun and mischief.

“Brand Fanta is known for its distinct playful imagery and its great ‘orange’ taste. Fanta aims at inviting everyone to increase “Play” in their life. The communication also reminds the con-sumers to enjoy the magic of its delicious taste.

ConCept:The story is inspiring, interesting and entertaining for every-one and specially for exclusive consumers. As it is summer, it was released at proper time. In this ad they have shown that after drinking fanta they get more enthusiastic and feel more refreshing. Even current generation theme is been used.

Story:The stroy brings out how the taste of Fanta sparks fun. The 3D animated film features two characters – Gigi and Tristan. Gigi is getting bored, when Tristan lands up with a bottle of Fanta. Everything is energised as soon as he opens the bottle. Everybody starts jumping with fun. The party comes to an end as soon as they run out of Fanta. But Tristan comes up with more Fanta and everyone jumps in the fun once again.

exeCution:

After the concept and story is developed they started working on the storyboard which is done manually and created digitally also and in technical words it is known as animatics. Animat-ics helps the modellers to do proper modelling as it includes character expressions and the camera angels. As the process was going on they designed cartoonic characters of different ages in 3d were created but they had some similarities to make the ad look simple. Different textures for different people ac-cording to their ages were been used. Animation is smoothly done. Principles of 3d work as been taken. Such as camera angles animation, object animation, force to force , trancperency, after ef-fects such as fluid effects for bottle is also taken. In this ad they have used day lights for each scene. Character rigging is done very simply and they have used the same bone setup for each character. Bouncing of the characters have been done to attract the people’s attention.

VerdiCt:

Animation is very nicely done. Like the previous campaign, the new ad film for Fanta is an international creative adapted for the Indian market. The bounce effect is so clearly done that no one can ignore the ad. It enjoy’s watching this ad again and again. This time to play around the strategy was to highlight the‘Taste that makes you jump’. It is fun to see the characters play around sipping on their or-angey drink. One of the fantastic ad of this year ,”mann uchal uchal jaaye”. The tempo is simply superb.
