For example, a statement that she is highly sociable and gregarious and astatement that you prefer solitude seemingly contradict each other; this means that she vacillates, and needsboth sociability and solitude at different times.

ASCENDANT

     The RISING SIGN in the birthchart (also known as the Ascendant) shows how this child faces life, herbasic attitude or stance toward the world, the way she comes across, and how she appears to others.

Aries Rising:

     Annie meets the world in a very direct, honest, straight forward way. She appears confident and decisive,quite sure of what she wants. Often she acts impulsively, without sufficient consideration or forethought, divingheadlong into whatever opportunity or challenge presents itself. High-spirited and energetic, she prefers totake some positive, direct action on her own rather than waiting for a solution to emerge of its own accord orasking others for assistance. "I want to do it for myself" will be her motto, and she will firmly resist anoverprotective, overly cautious, or overly "helpful" parent. She can be very impetuous and impatient, and verytrying to her parents' patience as well.

     Positively, her independence and strong sense of self enables her to be her own person regardless of peerpressure or other influences in her environment. She will not do something "because everyone else is doing it"or because it seems to be the socially acceptable thing to do. With other children, she is inclined to want tolead, direct, or dominate, and sparks may fly if she cannot. On the other hand, she can just as happily go offby herself if she cannot have a leading role in the group. She does not readily compromise or surrender herposition. She may have real difficulty if she has older siblings with whom she is constantly the smaller,subordinate, less powerful person.

     She has a strong sense of personal integrity which must be respected by parents even when she needs afirm, steadying hand or disciplinary restraint.

     She does not listen to or accept advice very readily (parents' included), but this is a self-motivated childwho will forge her own path in life.

Asc. Conjunct Moon:

     Annie's emotions are right on the surface and can be seen just by looking at her. She communicates a greatdeal nonverbally through her posture, expressions, and looks. She also absorbs and reflects the moods andattitudes of people in her immediate environment. Often her emotional state is a direct reflection of a parent's,friend's, or the overall tone of the place she is in. She tends to take care of, protect or "mother" others along,and to want quite a lot of tender loving care and nurturing herself.      Annie is inclined to act first and think later. She has little patience for people who are less decisive than she

Sun in Virgo:

     Innately humble, shy, and self-effacing, Annie is likely to be much more talented andlovable than she gives herself credit for. She has an inward, serious, intelligentdisposition, and tends to quietly observe before entering into any situation. She isusually well-behaved, polite, well-mannered, and careful, with a strong desire to "dothe right thing."  Her conscientiousness, in fact, may be carried to extremes, and she isoften very hard on herself when she makes a mistake or does not meet the high

standards she sets for herself. It is as if there is a very exacting Critic within her, and she is always trying to beperfect in order to please that aspect of herself. She needs a lot of assurance, warm acceptance, andencouragement to feel good about herself and to learn to ease up and be gentler with herself.

     Annie has a mind that loves to categorize, classify, analyze, and organize. She may arrange her belongingsvery neatly and not wish them to be rearranged in any way. She can be particular about her room or herappearance:  everything must be "just so."

     She has the ability to deal with meticulous detail and is very skillful with her hands. She also enjoys beinghelpful and she feels good about herself when she can assist you or do something necessary and practical tohelp you or others. Developing practical knowledge and skills increases her self confidence. Generous praisefor all of her efforts, and helping her find things she can do really well, will go a long way to bring out the bestside of her.

     Socially she may seem a bit cool until she knows the other person well - and then she is likely to be quitedevoted. She also likes to care for pets, especially small, gentle creatures like birds or hamsters.

Sun in 6th house:

     Conscientiousness and earnestness about doing a good job enable Annie to take on responsibilities at anearly age.  She enjoys acquiring skills and doing practical and functional things.  She likes to be useful. Learning to operate or repair things around the house, to sew or weave or practice some other craft, or togive Mom or Dad a good foot rub will please and satisfy her. She's very interested in health-related matters--partly because her own health tends to be delicate.

Sun Conjunct Uranus:

     Annie has an independent, rebellious, and restless side that can be disruptive at times. She is likely to becontrary, to constantly question authority, and to resist rules of conduct imposed by others. Certainly she willchaff at restrictions and restraints, and she resents being dictated to.

     Freedom is very important to her. She also likes to liven things up when they become too dull, and she isnot adverse to creating controversy or taking an unconventional stance. She likes being unique, doing things inher own original or offbeat way, and there is a touch of the creative genius in her.

Sun Conjunct Pluto:

     Annie is very willful and when she wants something, she goes after it wholeheartedly, even fanatically, butshe may hide her intentions, as she has a very private side. She tends to go to extremes. She may have aninfatuation with power, fame, or personal glory, and she needs to learn to use her own power effectively.Gentle martial arts like aikido would be very good for her.

     She is also very fascinated by the mysteries of life and death. She is likely to ask some very searchingquestions about death at an early age.

Sun Opposition Moon:

     As you read the above interpretation of Annie's sun sign, and compare it to the description of her moonsign on the following page, you may note distinct differences and possibly contradictions. This is because thereare different sides to her, and they may well conflict or pull her in opposite directions.

     You will notice as she grows up that she befriends people who are very different or polar opposite to herin some basic ways. It is as if she needs other people to reflect the other side of her. (For instance, if she isvery neat and precise, she will be drawn to people who are disorganized.)  Born around the time of the fullmoon, she is likely to be particularly active or strongly emotional each month when the moon is full.

Sun Sextile Neptune:

     Annie has a colorful, fanciful imagination. She enjoys acting, games of pretend and make-believe.

     She is rather impressionable and gullible at times, also. She seems to believe that anything is possible, andshe needs to develop a sense of discrimination, especially in regard to other people.

MERCURY

     MERCURY represents thinking and reasoning processes, the way your child's mind works, her intellectualinclinations and way of communicating ideas.

Mercury in Libra:

     Annie sees both sides of any issue and is inclined to swing back and forth inindecision before making up her mind. She is diplomatic when presenting her opinions,and may depend rather heavily on others' ideas and feedback before she forms herown.

Mercury in 7th house:

     This child likes to talk with people and find out how they think, and she'll follow you around the house and"talk your ears off" in an attempt to converse with you.  She may be a chatterbox in school too, and thetelephone may well be her favorite "toy"!

Mercury Opposition Saturn:

     Annie may have trouble communicating with people, especially on a light, social level. She tends to becritical of others' "superficiality," and also to fear that others judge and criticize her ideas. As a result, she maybe very quiet, watchful, and skeptical. On the plus side, she has good concentration and can tackle difficult,demanding, tedious mental work. She is also likely to have technical skill and expertise in her area of interest.She eschews purely theoretical understanding.

MOON

     The MOON in the birthchart indicates how she deals with and expresses feelings, how she experiences theworld on an emotional, feeling, non-verbal level, what her emotional needs are, and what she needs to feelsecure, comfortable and at ease.

Moon in Pisces:

     Dreamy, imaginative, often drifting off into fantasy or her own private inner world,Annie can entertain herself quietly for long periods of time and she is inclined towithdraw when the outside world is too threatening. Basically gentle and peace-loving,she avoids fighting and will give in to more aggressive, outspoken children in order tomaintain harmony. She is also very sympathetic and perceptive about others' emotions,pains, and worries, and it hurts her to see cruelty in any form. She may be

hypersensitive at times, crying over incidents that would not phase a more thick-skinned child. She does nothandle criticism very well and needs only gentle reminders, never heavy-handed discipline.

     She has an affinity for water, as well, and spending time at the ocean, lake, or even splashing in thebathtub, will refresh and recharge her emotional batteries.

Moon in 12th house:

     Annie is a mystical, sensitive soul who may have unusual dreams or psychic gifts.  She feels undercurrents,hears the unspoken feelings and wishes of those around her, and "soaks up" the emotional atmosphere.  Ifshe's unhappy "for no reason," she may be sensing someone else's turmoil or sadness.  Her need for periodsof solitude and quiet must be honored, because she needs this time to recharge and regroup.

Moon Opposition Uranus:

     Emotional self-control and consistency are not Annie's strong points . . . to say the least!  She needs a lotof freedom and cannot tolerate being restrained or restricted for too long. Formal, rigidly structured, or stuffyenvironments do not suit her, either. She is excitable, impulsive, restless, and rather high-strung at times. Shelikes offbeat, unusual people, and her tastes may strike you as rather odd.

VENUS

     VENUS represents the way your child gives and receives affection, makes friends, and socializes. It alsoindicates artistic or creative inclinations.

Venus in Leo:

     Annie very much wants to be admired, petted, and made much of by her friends,and she is lavish in her affection for others as well. She can be greedy for attention, andshe very much dislikes being ignored or seen as just one of the crowd. There is a streakof vanity in her. Positively, she is warm, demonstrative, loyal and generous with peopleshe cares about.

Venus in 6th house:

     Annie associates love with service, with helping or taking care of other people.  She's happy to do favorsfor her friends or to make things for them.  She especially enjoys making (and eating) desserts--perhaps toomuch so.

Venus Conjunct Jupiter:

     Generous and open-hearted, Annie likes to help, inspire or cheer up her friends. She does not understandpettiness at all; when she gives a gift or entertains her friends, she likes to do so on a grand scale. Her taste forquality or luxury can sometimes degenerate into extravagance, wastefulness, and a lack of moderation.

MARS

     MARS represents your child's drive, ambition, will, energy level, and ability to assert herself.

Mars in Sagittarius:

     Annie is very exuberant, high-spirited, full of energy and vitality. She sometimeslacks staying-power and concentration, however. She will stand up for herself and herbeliefs when challenged, though she does not really like to fight at all.

Mars in 8th house:

     Annie is whole hearted and intense about getting what she wants, and she tends to be difficult to dissuadeor reason with. When she has a goal in mind, she may push herself past her limits and injure herself, or fightferociously with anyone who has something else in mind.  This determination can be admirable and useful, but,in a youngster, such willfulness can be a major challenge to her guiding elders.

Mars Trine Saturn:

     Annie is careful, cautious, thorough, and rather conservative in the way she uses her energy. She tries tominimize any risks or element of uncertainty before she acts, and she sometimes loses out by playing it safe.Her energy level is steady and consistent.

JUPITER

     JUPITER in the birth chart reveals the child's future aspirations, and how she seeks to grow and improveherself.  It also indicates areas of natural confidence, success, or "luck."

Jupiter in Leo:

     Annie's aspirations tend to be rather grand and majestic; there is an innate sense ofroyalty and deservingness, a sense of entitlement to the best in life, which she insistsupon. Possessing a remarkable sense of showmanship, style, and dramatic flair, shemay well express a desire to perform at an early age. Give her a stage!

Annie never wants to do anything in a small way.  Pomp, prestige, and popularitymatter a great deal to her, and she genuinely wants to be worthy and great, not merely to appear that way. Wanting to believe in her teachers, parents, and other role models so much, she is very prone to hero-worship.  She wants to be Somebody, a person of importance, and will imitate those she admires.

At times other people--except perhaps particularly doting parents or grandparents--will find this self-importance and tendency to exaggerate a bit much.  Nevertheless, her great sincerity of heart andunquenchable thirst for LIFE are hard to resist.

Jupiter in 6th house:

     Early on, signs of the doctor, nurse, or veterinarian may be seen in Annie.  She instinctively wants toprotect others or make them feel better, and she may develop healing abilities.  She especially enjoys havingconcrete tasks and duties to perform, such as serving tea or some other helpful service.  Her presence is veryencouraging to anyone who is under the weather.

Jupiter Square Neptune:

     Annie believes in dreaming very big, the sky's the limit, and it may take her quite some time before shelearns to temper her huge idealism and optimism with a dose of practical realism.  Unless other astrologicalfactors lend some caution and prudence, she's apt to go overboard in just about everything she does includingher generosity and giving.  Part of how she seeks growth and meaning is to help other people. This child tendsto be a "bleeding heart".

SATURN

     The position of SATURN in your child's birth chart indicates the areas in which she is especially insecure,about which she is most serious, and/or in which she works hardest or is hardest on herself.  It also revealsthose weaknesses which, through effort, may become her greatest strengths.

Saturn in Aries:

     Annie is especially hard on herself when she lacks courage, and she secretly fearsbeing weak or "wimpy."  Because of this fear, she may put on a false show of bravado--an untouchable, unreachable, I-don't-need-you attitude--even (or especially) whenshe's really afraid or in pain.

     She needs to be encouraged to take some risks, to discover that she won't die if she

makes a mistake, doesn't come in first, or actually makes a fool of herself now and then.  She tends to holdherself back sometimes just to avoid the criticism or punishment she expects will follow if she stands up forherself.  Strict, militaristic discipline from parents or teachers can be very destructive, yet she responds to andrespects firmness and strength.  If too much emphasis is placed on conforming to rigid external standards oron controlling herself and her impulses, she's apt to become chronically sullen and angry.

     If, however, she is given a lot of encouragement and nurtured in an atmosphere of acceptance, she candevelop into an exceptionally self-reliant person, able and willing to stand alone when she needs to.  Hertendency to isolate herself or be a loner is a trait that she shares with many of her agemates.

Saturn in 1st house:

     Annie is overly sensitive to being patronized or condescended to.  Even as a very young person, she'llwant to be taken seriously and valued as a person of substance, rather than as cute, adorable, or amusing.  Asa baby, she may frown a lot or seem to regard those around her rather sternly.  She's also likely to be veryconcerned with, or critical of, her appearance.

MOON'S NODES

     The Lunar Nodes are points formed by the moon's orbit around the Earth intersecting with the Earth's patharound the Sun. North Node in 1st House in Aries:

     Annie's path in life requires that she focus on pursuing her own personal interests, desires, and innerdirectives. She must resist the pull of excessive concern over other people's approval or disapproval of her.Annie is meant to be a solo act, and therefore the more she concentrates on her own development (whethermaterial or spiritual), the more she fulfills her destiny. She makes a contribution to life by focusing on her ownindividuality and being herself as fully as she can, even if this appears egotistical or overly self-involved toothers. As a parent or caring elder in her life, you may be able to encourage her along these lines by payingattention to what she is drawn to and allowing her to go her own way

GENERATIONAL INFLUENCES

     The slow-moving planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto represent the ideals, changes, and impulses of anentire generation. While the descriptions below may or may not describe your child as an individual, they willtell you about the climate of the times and the underlying issues and challenges of your child's age group.

     For instance, when Neptune (which represents one's spiritual ideals, dreams, aspirations, fantasies andillusions) passed through the egalitarian and harmony-loving sign of Libra (from 1943-1957), the children whowould grow into the "flower children," hippies, and supporters of the peace movement were born. Not everyperson born during that time became a hippie or identified themselves with the peace movement, but certainlythey were affected by the feeling-tone and ideals of their age group and the times they grew up in. Thus, thefollowing information is intended to give you insight into the important motifs and issues of your child'sgeneration.

     URANUS indicates where the impulse for change, innovation, liberation from the past, andexperimentation with new forms is the strongest. It is where the status quo is disrupted or uprooted to makeway for something new. Sudden inspiration and invention are also represented by Uranus.

Uranus in Virgo:

     In this age group (1962-1969), there is a great deal of conflict and tension, for thereis a conservative, cautious element and a very critical, disruptive, discontented aspectto these children as well.

     They are concerned with and will bring about innovative change in education, healthand medical care, and other social services. They may adopt unusual diets or healthpractices, and they tend to go to extremes in these areas.

Uranus in 6th house:

     Annie is apt to be somewhat of a maverick in her work habits. School work, study habits, and when she isolder, her choice of jobs is likely to be affected. Essentially she wants to improvise and work at her own paceand if allowed to do so, this should not be too much of a problem. In an atmosphere that is highly structured,though, she may be nervous, easily distractable, or an instigator to her peers.

Uranus Conjunct Pluto:

     Annie was born in powerful, tumultuous times when great upheavals, reversals, and changes were occuringin society.  She carries the imprint and energies of those times and is part of a group of souls who are here toshake the world up in some fundamental ways.  A deep streak of radical impatience runs through them.

Uranus Sextile Neptune:

     Annie is part of a generation who is very receptive to new ideas about consciousness, reality, andspirituality. Open minded and universal on the whole, they embrace both science and religion as ways tounderstand life.  They are not frightened of nonordinary states of consciuosness or inner experience, either.

     NEPTUNE represents the quest for the ideal, the dream, for something more sublime. The sign it ispassing through at the time of one's birth colors one's spiritual aspirations and ideals, and also indicates wherethe desire to escape reality, to fantasize, deceive oneself, and become lost in illusion is the strongest.

Neptune in Scorpio:

     A fascination with the strange, hidden, and mysterious characterizes this age group(1956-1970), and they have a deep attraction to esotericism and psychic or occultpowers. Powerfully emotional, mesmerizing, or haunting music is likely to come out ofthis group. They are likely to be confused over sexual mores and to idealize or beunbalanced and extreme in their attitudes toward sex.

Neptune in 8th house:

     Psychic and spiritual matters, including death and the afterlife, have a strong hold on Annie's imagination.At times she may have unwarranted fears because of the veil of mystery that surrounds such things, but shemay be unable to articulate them.  It's best to have an honest, down to earth discussion when a pet or elativedies rather than hiding or avoiding the topic, because the more clear information she has the less her fantasiesare apt to mislead her.  On the other hand, this child is also likely to have authentic paranormal experiences,so remain open and validating if she reports such things.

Neptune Sextile Pluto:

     Those born during this generation have the opportunity to advance spirituality and a consciousness of unity,universality, and brother/sisterhood.  Only a few individuals may heed the call, but many will be influenced bythem.

     PLUTO in the birth chart indicates a process of deep change, transformation, and renewal, often throughdestruction or confrontation with darkness.  This is a process that takes place in society as well as inindividuals.  Pluto's position in the birth chart shows where one is compulsive, extreme, or learning key lifelessons.

Pluto in Virgo:

     This group (born 1957-1971) as a whole is intensely analytical and may indulge indestructive self-criticism. Feelings of inadequacy, impurity, or discontent plague them attimes. Being overly fastidious or perfectionistic about their bodies or their environmentis likely.

     One of the challenges this group will confront involves cleaning up the toxins andoverindulgent, excessive behaviors of previous generations which have damaged the ecological balance of theearth. Temperance, moderation, and self-discipline regarding the use of one's body and physical resources willbe an important issue for them, also. Health practices, medicine, nutrition, and healing will undergo profound

changes and transformation.

Pluto in 6th house:

     This child is apt to come into her vocation at a young age, to have a strong sense of mission about her life'swork.  This may manifest as unusual interests or hobbies that she pursues consistently through her childhoodyears, and it will reflect some of the qualities described above.
