Drama Club

Drama Club provides students a place to

have some fun and be creative. Using

games and exercises, the students are

challenged to stretch their imaginations,

focus their creative energies, and by

working alone or in groups, bring their

characters to life. Students will learn

about acting techniques, stage

directions, and how to be more

comfortable speaking in front of peers.

This club is perfect for the student who

are interested in theater, as well as the

student who is looking for a creative

environment to bring ideas to life.

Engineering Club

Engineering Club members will be developing solutions for a variety of engineering challenges, such as bridge building, robotics, and hovercraft design. The club is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and will meet in room L13 with Ms. McLeland on every other Thursday. Please check the ASMS website to see when your

grade and Groups meets. Ultimate Frisbee & Fitness

Club

Fitness Club for grades 6th, 7th, 8th meets on

Fridays in the Gymnasium with Mrs.

Mahan. Check on ASMS website to see

when your grade meets.

Activities such as Ultimate Frisbee,

Volleyball, Yoga, Principals of Weight

Training and Flexibility will be offered.

Intramural Club Intramurals provide a variety of options

for students in grades 6th, 7th and 8th. Some of the activities include: football,

basketball, mat-ball, floor hockey, lacrosse, waffle ball, and ultimate Frisbee!

Due to large enrollment 6th grade groups will be divided into thirds and meet by A,

B or C groups on Tuesdays with Mrs. Mahan

7th & 8th Grade groups will meet alternating Mondays with Mr. Rakovic

Spanish Club

Spanish Club celebrates the history, culture and traditions of the Hispanic people and countries. Activities will vary and focus on traditions, holidays, celebrations, music, dance and food! Spanish Club meets every Friday after school in Room M180 with Mrs. Day and Mrs. Ahearn. ¡Gracias!

Jazz Band is a select ensemble open by audition for 6th -8th graders. A main focus of the ensemble is learning blues scales and chord progressions, which students use as they begin to explore improvisation. The ensemble performs Blues, Latin, and Rock at the December & May concerts, and often for school sponsored events. Club meets on Mondays & Thursdays with Ms. Butz in the Band Room

Golf Club This year is our second official year of golf

club at ASMS! We will spend time outside

developing our swings, and we will visit the

golf course at least twice this year.

The First Tee (an organization devoted to

spreading the game of golf to young people)

has helped us develop the club and has

provided us with some equipment.

We will visit them at the MGA Links in

Norton. This is a year round club that will

meet twice per week during the warmer

weather, and once per week during the

winter with Mr. Procacini. Club will

begin in Room L14. Check the website to

Environmental Club Environmental Club is a student-driven club where the goal is to make the world a better place, starting with small steps here in our own Annie Sullivan community. We are building awareness about pollution, recycling, and helping to lessen our own impact in the world. STEM CLUB

STEM Club is for all students interested in Math and Science. This club works on challenging math problems, tricky math puzzles, and engineering science experiments in order to demonstrate the connection between math and science on so many different levels. One of the main goals in the club is to prepare students for MATHCOUNTS competition later in the school year. The STEM Club is for any middle school student interested in challenging their level of thinking through problem solving and healthy competitions. STEM Club meets Thursdays in Room U237 with Mrs. Magee and Mrs. O’Neill

Computer Science Club

Have you ever thought it might be fun to learn how to create

computer games, program music, design websites or just play with

code? Join us in the computer lab on Mondays to learn about

computer coding. You don’t have to know anything at all about coding. We’ll learn together!

Students who have experience in coding will be able to work

together as well. If coding isn’t your thing, perhaps you’d like to play MineCraft with your friend, online chess matches or other computer games that will test

your brainpower!! So…come join us on Mondays with Mrs. Morris

Self-Directed Study

This club provides a supervised, quiet space for students after school to allow those who would like to get a jump start on their homework to do so in a structured setting. Self-Directed Study meets on Monday’s, Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. The club is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. A student may attend one, two or three sessions, provided room is still avilable at sign-up time. Sign-up takes place the Friday preceding each week. Students can also check the board early Monday morning to see if there is still room and make a last minute sign up. This club can accommodate 20 students and students are expected to remain focused and working throughout the period. NaNoWriMo

Is a club for aspiring novelists! The club is

open to 7th and 8

th grade students who love

to write.

November is National Novel Writing Month(NaNoWriMo)! This is a nation-wide writing contest. It is a fun, supportive and challenging experience. The accomplishment of writing a full novel and having your book published is something that cannot be measured. However, it is a fairly intense experience – students will write 30,000 words in just one month! Students who complete their novels by November 30th win! NaNoWriMo Young Writer’s Program offers each winner one free printed copy of his or her book.

September - The club will meet after school on Tuesdays in Room U252. During the weeks leading up to November, students will plan their novels and focus on the elements of a good novel.

November - Students will write their novels! The goal is typically to write 1000 words per day. During the meetings members will work with peers and Mrs. Conlan to bounce off ideas. Novels must be submitted to NaNoWriMo Young Adults Program by November 30th in order to be eligible to win.

December - The club will meet only once to celebrate the completion of the students’ novels. Then the entire month is devoted to rest and rejuvenation.

January - The students will start the revising and editing process and by June their final manuscripts will be ready for publishing

Friends of Rachel (F.O.R.) Club

The Rachel’s Challenge program was founded by Darrell Scott, father of Rachel

Joy Scott. Rachel was the first victim to be killed in the Columbine High School

tragedy on April 20, 1999. The mission of Rachel’s Challenge is to inspire, equip

and empower every person to create a permanent positive culture change in

his/her school and community by starting a chain reaction of kindness and

compassion. The goal of this club is to organize and offer a variety of activities

for the entire school and ASMS community.

If you are interested in looking for the best in others, dare to dream, choose

positive influences, use kind words and actions, and you want to start a chain

reaction with your family and friends, this club is for you!!

Friends of Rachel will be meeting on Mondays in Room M183 with Ms. Gontarz

and Mrs. McCaffrey

Adventure/Outing Club

If you are interested in making new friends

while going on new adventures than the

Adventure/Outing Club is the club for you!

The club will be getting together to plan

various trips throughout the school year. In

years past the club has been rock climbing,

snow tubing, seen Blue Man Group along

with many other exciting excursions.

This club will meet when it’s time to plan

another fun adventure in Room M181 with

Mrs. Vetrano and Mr. Kelley

American Sign Language Club

Come learn the alphabet,

numbers, words and phrases

in ASL. Throughout the year

we will learn to sign picture

books and songs in ASL, too!
