ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE NEXT

M. S. O. P. LECTURESHIP Keith A. Mosher Sr.

The Forty-nineth annual Memphis

School of Preaching Lectureship will take

place from March 29th, 2015 through

April 2, 2015. The theme this year, which

coincides with the school's theme, is:

“Restoration: History in the Making."

Various restoration preachers will

be discussed along with many biblical

concepts that need "restoring" and also

such topics as Restoration yesterday and

today will be studied.

In a recent article in the Gospel

Advocate, (August 2014), Phil Sanders

lamented that the church is losing her idea

of the sacred, her evangelistic zeal, and her

distinctiveness. The Memphis School of

Preaching has, for forty nine years, tried to

restore those three ideas, and this

lectureship is intended to emphasize the

task at hand. There should be large crowds

of the faithful who are as concerned as we

are about restoring New Testament

Christianity in the hearts of all men.

[Editor’s Note: Religiously, we use

the term "restoration" among us to refer to

a return to the complete restoration of the

church which was established on the first

Pentecost after the resurrection of Christ in

the city of Jerusalem (Acts 2). To worship

in the same way, to have the same

organization, to wear the same name, to

have the same guide, the New Testament,

is to be the same as they were – New

Testament Christians. The Restoration

Plea is unique in the religious world today.

I am excited by the announcement of this

theme, and I am sure you are as well.]

FROM THE DIRECTORB. J. Clarke

The second quarter of the 2014-2015school year has now begun. Much good wasaccomplished last quarter.

MOST ProgramWe launched the MOST program

which stands for Memphis School ofPreaching Ongoing Spiritual Training. Inyears past, this had been known as our “ThirdYear Program” because those who graduatedfrom the two-year program at MSOP couldtake a year’s worth of additional classes, oneday a week, and, upon completion, receive a“Third Year Diploma.” This will still be apart of the MOST program but, in truth, theseclasses have not been, and are not now, limited only to those who have completed thetwo-year program. The classes are open to allinterested Bible students.

The Fall classes began on September18th and continue every Thursday throughDecember 11th with the exception beingNovember 27th for Thanksgiving. Classesmeet in room 405 on campus. Classes are alsooffered online (www.msop.org) for those whocannot attend in person. The classes may beviewed live, or later, at a more convenienttime for the student. The classes may beaudited or taken for credit. [Please email DanCates at [email protected] for details on howto take part on-line].

Fall GraduationTwo of our students recently finished

their course work and completed their studies. One of them, Timothy Glasshof, was awardedthe Most Outstanding Student Award at theMSOP Graduation Ceremony in June. He isan excellent student with a wonderful family, and will be working with the church inFarmington, Missouri.

The other student, Emmanuel George, will bless many by returning to India after twoyears of study at MSOP. He will take theGospel of Christ to souls who are hungeringand thirsting for someone to tell them the truththat makes men free (Jn. 8:32).

World Missions ProgramWe are pleased to have two students

enrolled in our one-year World MissionsProgram. Sao Joseph (from Sierra Leone) andEfrain Aranda (from Mexico) are graduates ofthe two-year program, but are busily engagedin studying a concentrated curriculumdesigned to prepare them for the mission field. This program, like our regular two-yearprogram, is tuition free! If you know ofsomeone who is preparing to go to the missionfield, why not encourage them to attend theWorld Missions Program at MSOP?

Recent CampaignsRight after their final exams for the

first quarter, our students conducted fourGospel Campaigns across the country. Anumber of students participated in a campaignin Portage County, Ohio. Four of thechurches in the county (Kent, Ravenna,Streetsboro, and Windham), came togetherand worked shoulder to shoulder in knockingdoors during the daytime in the fourcommunities, and then attended evangelisticservices each night. Over 5000 doors wereknocked, and there were visitors from thecommunity who attended the services.

Campaigns were also conducted inMoultrie, GA, and Milton, FL, and Munford,TN. All in all, nearly 10,000 doors werecontacted with information about the Lord’s

church. Many Bible correspondence courseswere set up, and several home Bible studieswere set up. In the Ohio campaign, we wereblessed with two baptisms.

We believe it is very important for ourstudents to learn in environments outside ofthe classroom as well as in the classroom. These evangelistic campaigns provide themwith invaluable experience in how to approachpeople with the Gospel of Christ. Please praythat our efforts will continue to bring forthfruit for years and years to come.

We are indebted to our alumni andothers for supporting our efforts to educatemen to take the saving Gospel to a lost anddying world! You are making an eternaldifference. May God continue to bless you!

AN APPEAL FROM FOUR SEASCOLLEGE, SINGAPORE

Peter Chin

4,427,000,000. This staggeringnumber represents the population of Asia. Tothe Christian, it represents more than thatthough, as each number in that figure is a soulmore valuable than the entire world (Matthew16:26). Sadly, these souls are separated fromevangelistic, mission-minded Christians in theUSA by two walls: language / cultural barriersand unstable / antagonist governments. Butwhat if there was a way to assist the4,427,000,000 souls without having to learnthe 2,269 languages and dialects spokenthroughout the region, not to mention thecultures that support these languages anddialects? What if there was a way to bypassthe "closed door" policies of Communist andMuslim countries? That's the opportunitypresented by Four Seas College of Bible andMissions.

Four Seas College is located in themodern, English-speaking island nation ofSingapore. Singapore is a regional hub forbusiness and education, and its government isextremely tolerant of religion. Four Seas isable to operate openly and publicly as areligious school. We are registered with thegovernment, allowing us to appeal to them forworking visas for foreign teachers and, importantly, student passes for those whowish to study the Bible - even if they are fromplaces closed to the gospel. We teach ourstudents in English, and they return to theircountries to teach in their respective nativetongues.

Our primary goal is to strengthen thechurches of Christ throughout Asia. As aconsequence, we train both men and women.

Students are fed a steady diet of the word ofGod, studying five days a week and havingclasses for four to five hours a day. Eachmorning begins with a chapel service wherethe men lead in actions of worship and givedevotional talks (ladies have their ownseparate chapel service fortnightly). The menare encouraged to become preachers ifpossible and if they desire, but if not tobecome strong members wherever they mayfind themselves. The women are encouragedto become teachers of women and childrenand to become one-on-one personal workers. The school has been around since the1960's. It has had its ups and downs over theyears, but it has managed to graduate 185people from 19 different countries. In the lastthree years, we have had students from China,Vietnam, the Philippines, Laos, Malaysia,Singapore, India, Myanmar, and Australia.Eleven of the men from the graduating classesof 2012 and 2013 have gone on to become fullor part time preachers. Some of these menhave gone back to nations where full time,American missionaries are not wanted orallowed. All of them are reaching out inlanguages besides English.

Four Seas is not the only way to takethe gospel into Asia, but it is a good way. Theproblem is that it needs your help. Our appealat this time is not financial (though suchwould be appreciated!); it is an appeal formanpower. Four Seas essentially runs on askeleton crew, consisting of full timeinstructors Peter Chin (MSOP class of 2006)and Patrick Swayne (MSOP class of 2005),part time instructor Eddy Ee (longtime

A One Day Seminar On Preaching With Tom HollandAt Memphis School of Preaching (and at www.msop.org)

December 17, 2014 (9:00-11:30 a.m. and 1:00-4:00 p.m.)

Brother Holland will spend the day addressing what both Scripture and decades ofexperience have taught him about being an effective Gospel preacher. He will cover manytopics, but will give a special emphasis to “The Power of Personal Visitation” in building

up the local church, and being an effective preacher. Although the seminar was firstplanned as a means of educating MSOP students, the seminar is open to any

elders/preachers/members who wish to attend in person. Additionally, the seminar will belive streamed at www.msop.org for all who wish to view these messages. If you plan to

attend in person, we need to know in advance in order to have sufficient seating available. Please email [email protected] if you plan to attend.

evangelist of the Jurong congregation), andsecretary Pooi Fun Chin. The school is forcedto use instructors around the world who beamin to our students via Skype; however, thissituation is far from ideal.

Our main appeal is for one more manto commit himself to move to Singapore andserve as a full time instructor at Four Seas. This will free up the current faculty to domore recruiting and promotion and reduce orperhaps eliminate the need for onlineinstructors. We trust from the above that youcan see the opportunity that such workpresents, and if you are at all interested, pleasecontact us.

Our secondary appeal is for men toassist us as visiting lecturers. We are currentlytrying a restructure of our schedule that wouldallow a visiting lecturer to come at the schoolfor roughly 7 weeks. Simple accommodationis available for an instructor and his wife. Inaddition to working at the school, it is highlylikely that the lecturer could use the weekends

to preach at congregations in Singapore andMalaysia if he desires. It would thus be afruitful trip, both in the short term as onestrengthens the brotherhood, and in the longterm as one helps to touch the life of ourstudents. It is an ideal opportunity for retiredcouples.

Our final appeal is for instructors whocan assist us with online teaching. This wouldinvolve making a commitment for 7 weeks todedicate either two hours on Sunday / Tuesday/ Thursday nights or three hours on Mondayand Wednesday nights. We are certain thatyou will find teaching our students arewarding experience.

If you are interested in helping us withany of the above needs, please contact us viaour school's secretary, Pooi Fun Chin at<[email protected]>. We will be happyto answer any questions that you have. For theCause of Christ, The Faculty & Staff at FourSeas College of Bible and Missions.www.fourseas.edu.sg

Wewalk about seven kilometers every day. I amtrying to get a little fitter in case I have tospend more time in hospital. I go into theRoyal Hobart Hospital on the first Thursday in

November for a cerebral angiogram. The ideaof it does not excite me, but if it will helpdetermine what is going on in my head I willbe pleased to have it. My neurologist is anexpert in multiple sclerosis, and he is notconvinced that it is MS. I am so grateful for allthe get well cards I continue to receive. I amparticularly thankful to all of the Ladies’classes who have sent cards. All of these cardshave been a great source of comfort andencouragement to me. It is so nice to knowthere are so many brethren praying for myrecovery. I do consider myself blessed that mycondition has not prevented me from doingthe Lord’s work.”

In SympathyMary Jo Lance, the mother of Mark

single men because of the job situation (a totalof 10 souls). We have also had to withdrawfellowship from 3 physically related familiesand my middle daughter who becameunfaithful. As a result, our attendance hasdropped by 20 (including children).Occasionally, our Sunday morning attendancedrops below 20 but a good Sunday will be inthe mid twenties (esp. when we have visitors). On the first Monday in October I started agroup Bible study with inmates at the ClarionJail. I am covering basic Christian Evidences.I advertised the classes with the title of "TheBasis of Belief" since many people have noidea what "Christian Evidences" entails. Sofar, average attendance has been 6 souls. Afew have shown what I hope is a genuineinterest while some seem obviouslydisinterested. I covered "How we can knowGod exists," "How we can know the Bible isfrom God," "The so-called problem of evil, pain & suffering," and "Objections to hellrefuted." Back in September I started takingthe MOST on-line class on ChristianEvidences. It has been 22 years since I leftMSOP so I decided to take only one class toget back into the routine. Because thecongregation is so small, my wife is workingat the local Wal-Mart. I am trying to raiseadditional financial support hoping to be ableto afford health insurance which we have nothad for almost 4 years. The Lord's church inUnion, SC made it possible for us to committo the work here 3 years ago. They have beenfaithfully supporting me ever since. I justlearned yesterday that the White Oakcongregation in Chattanooga, TN will startsupporting me in 2015. The church inAdamsville, AL also sent a one time gift assupport for the last few months of 2014 andall of 2015. God is great, very gracious andprovidentially helping us in this work throughsuch faithful brethren!”

Plans are alsobeing made to work with brethren in GrandCayman, the Turks and Caicos Islands, andthe islands of Trinidad-Tobago. We will alsowork with brethren in Virginia, Minnesota, ona campaign August 3-9.

Billy Bland (1997) writes, “As I writethese words, I am in Singapore getting readyto participate in the Four Seas Bible CollegeLectureship. Having left Memphis onNovember 13th we (Tim Burroughs, TimHayes and myself), arrived in Hyderabad,India on November 15th. We were met inHyderabad by brethren Kumar, Nahu,Emmanuel George (who just graduated fromthe Memphis School of Preaching) andEmmanuel's father - brother Babu. I wasinvited to preach to the Lord's church inHyderabad on the following morning, whichI was glad to do. Brother Kumar's wifeprepared us a meal after the morning service. We later learned there was a young lady whowas baptized that evening at Hyderabad. Herhusband was already a Christian, so we areglad they are now united together in Christ.KURNOOL: Leaving Hyderabad that Sundayafternoon, we traveled three or four hours toour destination in Kurnool. The followingmorning we started having "preachers BibleClasses" for the local preachers, (somedenominational preachers also attended themeetings). Brother Babu also had previouslyarranged for us to go preach the truth to 3denominational churches in an effort to lead

them out of Denominationalism. Accordingly,I preached to a Pentecostal church on Mondayevening. My Topic was "THE CHURCH OFTHE BIBLE." I explained to the onesgathered (including their preacher), that thechurch of the Bible was built by Christ, is nota denomination, wears the name of Christ, andworships scripturally. As an illustration forGod's authority to sing (and not addmechanical instruments of music), I remindedthem of God telling Noah to use "gopherwood." I asked them would it be okay forNoah to use oak or pine in addition to thegopher wood. They answered "no." I thenasked, "did God say sing and beat the drum?"They said "no". I then asked did God say "singand play a guitar?" Again, they said, "no." SoI then showed that we have authority to sing, but no authority for using the mechanicalinstruments. They seemed to get the point. Ialso explained how people became membersof the Lord's church by believing in Christ, repenting of their sins, confessing the Christand being baptized for the remission of theirsins. They were very appreciative of ourcoming and preaching God's Word to them.We are hopeful that the preacher and then thecongregation are going to be converted. Thepreacher has asked brethren Babu andEmmanuel to come back and preach more tothem. The other two churches were Baptistchurches. We also think that at least one ofthese churches will be converted. Our goinginto the churches reminded me of how Paulused to go into the Jewish synagogues andpreach the Gospel to the Jews. Let's pray thatsome of these churches will be converted toChrist. SINGAPORE: Upon completing ourmission in Kurnool on November 21st, wedrove back to Hyderabad, and caught an 11:35PM flight to Singapore (about a 4 hour flightbut due to the time difference we arrived inSingapore at 6:00 AM). On Saturday,November 22, we attended the Graduation of

THE AMAZING UTILIZATION OFMODERN TECHNOLOGY AT MSOP

Mike McDaniel

On November 11, 2014, at 6:30 A.M.,I got in my car to make the drive from myhome in Caruthersville, Missouri to theMemphis School of Preaching. The air wasfrigid, but conditions seemed good otherwise. My trip was fine until I approached Jericho,Arkansas where I began to see snow on theground, ice on the interstate, and a huge trafficjam.

I was able to get off the interstate andproceed down Hwy 77 through Marion,Arkansas to West Memphis. I tried threedifferent ways to get on the interstate. Trafficwas not moving at all. Upon calling theschool at 8:40 A.M., I learned that there hadbeen at bad wreck and fatality at the Forest-Hill Irene exit and that the Bill MorrisParkway was now closed. A surprise snowfallhad stricken Memphis before rush hour, crippling the interstate system. There werewrecks on both of the unsalted bridges andthey had to close them. I learned later that itwould not be until the afternoon before thingsgot back to normal. I could see the Memphisskyline from Broadway Avenue in WestMemphis, yet I had no choice after an hour ofwaiting but to return to Missouri.

I was scheduled to teach my MissionProgram class on Principles of Leadershipfrom 9 to 11. That would not happen. However, I was also scheduled to fill in forbrother Billy Bland in Hermeneutics (A FirstYear Course) from 1:10 to 4 P.M. At thispoint, I wanted to try to salvage something ofmy day as my morning had been futile. Icalled the school and talked with brotherEfrain Aranda, one of our World Mission

Program students. He and brother StephenUlrich, a second year student who assists uswith tech support, would make preparationsfor me to teach my afternoon first year classonline using Blackboard software which isprovided for my use by the Online Academyof Biblical Studies.

After surprising my wife at theelementary school where she serves as thelibrary aide, we were able to have lunchtogether. By 1:10 P.M., I was at my computerand ready to teach Hermeneutics all afternoon.I was very grateful. At the time, I had no idea, however, the technical intricacies of themultiple tasks which brother Ulrich wasoverseeing at the time.

In the second year classroom, thestudents were watching a video and audioarchived stream of brother Bobby Liddell’slesson on the book of Haggai from November11th at the 12th Annual Schertz Lectures inSchertz, Texas. This was courtesy of theOnline Academy of Biblical Studies website:www.oabs.org. This video feed was streamedby the Mac mini that is connected to theclassroom TV and controlled from brotherUlrich’s iPhone 6 Plus which is capable ofmonitoring and controlling every piece ofnetwork/computer equipment in the school.

At the same time, the M.O.S.T. classwhich was being taught on campus by brotherTed Clarke was also recorded and streaminglive to our online students via YouTube Liveand GoToMeeting. This class wascontrolled/monitored from brother Ulrich’siPad mini 2 in front of him.

Brother Stephen Ulrich uses his iPhone 6Plus, and his iPad Mini to monitorMcDaniel’s First Year Class, and

Clarke’s M.O.S.T. class, while watchingLiddell’s lecture on the large monitor in

the Second Year Class.

Then in my first year class, we werestreaming audio and video via BlackBoardCollaborate for me. Blackboard is completelyinteractive. I can see and hear the students, and they can see and hear me. We also havean active chat-room and a whiteboard whichcan be used for pictures, PowerPoint andwriting.

Brother Ulrich was using his MacBookAir connected to the classroom TV to send theaudio and video to the monitor for the class toobserve while it was also capturing audio andvideo from the classroom and streaming thatback to me. Brother Ulrich writes, “This willbe handled in the future by the Mac mini ineach classroom, but it will require thepurchase of a new webcam for each classroomand possibly the chapel hall as well. I plan topurchase one for myself in the near future andbegin testing it in one of the classrooms priorto asking the school to purchase them forevery application. The cost for this is quiteminimal at less than $200 per room and it willprovide business class wide angle 1080HDvideo and excellent room sound whileintegrating with our existing networkinfrastructure and video transmission methods. . .All three classes were being conducted viathe internet simultaneously controlled by asingle individual. Without the recentHardware upgrades and support of ourvisionary director B. J. Clarke and the ForestHill elders, none of this would be possible.”

Brother Ulrich took a picture of whatwas going on during the second half of the day(11/13/14) because he couldn't think of abetter way to explain the complexity of it all atthe time.

When he showed me this picture onNovember 18th, I thought it was prettyamazing. I have been engaged with OABSonline teaching since 2002 and have beengrateful over the years to have been a part ofsome ground-breaking use of this kind of

technology in the brotherhood. Thus, I amvery familiar with this kind of technology. However, to see such a variety of software andhardware applications being utilized and beingmonitored by brother Ulrich on one Novemberafternoon at M.S.O.P. to the glory of God andthe edification of many makes me veryappreciative also to our alumni and friendswho have assisted us financially and in otherways in the Lord’s Work. It was a source ofencouragement to me on a frustrating day.
