NEXT SUNDAY’S MESSAGE: “Everyone Fits Somewhere” Psalm 84:1-4 Dear Friends, Welcome to Bible Center! On behalf of our pastors and staff, it’s our joy to have you here today. Apart from watching the NBA championships (our prayers are with you, Warrior fans), my favorite show last week was the PBS documentary on the Kanawha River. If you missed it, I posted the link on my Facebook page and Twier account. It was a great way to celebrate West Virginia Day! The show reminded me how blessed we are to live here. Other river towns like Richmond, Nashville, Milwaukee and Sacramento are nice, but their views pale in comparison to the Kanawha Valley. However, it’s sll good to get away from me to me. Whether it’s an extended vacaon to a different state or country, or a day trip into the West Virginia hills, geng away helps us clear our minds, refresh our bodies and reset our busy lives. The philosopher Hannah Arendt wrote, “A life spent enrely in public, in the presence of others, becomes shallow. While it retains its visibility, it loses the quality of rising into sight.” As I retell Elijah’s story today, I hope you’ll put yourself in his shoes. Noce what the Lord does to refresh him; and think about how God can refresh you. We are praying this service encourages and strengthens your spiritual journey! Ma Friend Senior Pastor M @PastorMaBCC

How to Serve OurState in Emergency

1 Thessalonians 2:1-8Pastor Matt Friend • June 26, 2016

1. Let’s be motivated by the Gospel. (vv. 1-6)

2. Let’s do good works. (vv. 7-8)

So, what’s the encouragement for us?

Let’s partner with Union Mission Ministries to help

hurting people in Jesus’ name.

In what practical ways can we help?

1. Fill the trucks. (Paper products, diapers, cleaning

supplies, water and non-perishable food)

2. Donate our money. (Give at WeFeedPeople.com or

to Bible Center earmarked “UMM”)

3. Be the hands and feet of Jesus. (For a relief team

assignment, contact [email protected])

The map of the Old Testament is dotted from east to west

with the story of a family with an intriguing past: Their great-great-great-grandpa, Korah, rebelled against Moses and suffered the consequences (Numbers 16), but God showed them grace (Numbers 26:9-11).

For centuries, Korah’s descendants willingly served in the tabernacle, and later in the temple, as janitors, maintenance personnel and musicians. They were known as “doorkeepers” because they made sure the doors were unlocked and the lights were on.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could travel back in time and ask them, “Why did you volunteer to serve

so faithfully behind the scenes? Why were you willing to do the thankless jobs that few others wanted to do?” Thankfully, they answered those questions when they wrote Psalm 84.

Why be a doorkeeper in 2016? Why serve at this time in this place? May God use this important July series to revive our motivations for serving and to make serving fun again!

If the fire alarm goes off while you’re in the building, calmly proceed to the nearest exit and go to the South end of the parking lot.

Safety Info FOR ALLATTENDERS

Everyone must evacuate the building.

Watch your step, as water may be spraying from the ceiling as you exit.

The Fire Department is dispatched every time the alarm is activated. Please move far enough away from the building to give first responders easy access.

No one may re-enter the building until the “all clear” signal has been given.

Some things to keep in

mind should the fire alarm

activate:

The Children’s & Student Ministries have a thorough evacuation plan and all children will be safely evacuated. If you have children:

1 Do not attempt to go down-stairs to get your children.

2 Children will be taken to an Evacuation Assembly Area

beyond the South lawn. There are 3 such areas, grouped by age and clearly marked with large, red signs.

3 Once you have safely exited, you may immediately go to

the Evacuation Assembly Area to meet your children.

4 After locating your children, stay with their class until the

teacher has taken attendance.

5 Once all children have been accounted for, check your

children out in the usual manner (matching sticker numbers.)

Your cooperation in following theseinstructions will be greatly appreciated!

The EnemyGenesis 3:13; 1 Peter 5:8; Ephesians 6:12MONDAY

“Glorifying God by producing more maturing followers of Jesus.”

5 MINUTES / 5 DAYS

June 27 - July 1, 2016Matt GarrisonPastor of Student Ministries & Global Outreach

We Have an Enemy!

Have you ever disobeyed your parents when you were younger? I would say most of us have at one point or another. I know I did. What was your response when they asked, “Why?” Did you ever use the excuse “the devil made me do it?” This week we are going to talk about our real enemy so we can know what we are up against and learn how we can defend ourselves. The Bible calls him “Satan” or “Devil.” These names have significant meaning. Satan: adversary, one who plots against; and Devil: accuser or slanderer. Our enemy is plotting how he can destroy us and slander us before God. How does that make you feel?

For Today: Know we have an enemy/adversary, but, rest assured, greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4)

Our enemy’s tactics haven’t changed much through the centuries. He is bent on our destruction. The Scripture today is about how humanity chooses to disobey God. Satan tempted Eve in a way that he still uses to tempt us today. He loves to take God’s Word and twist it. “Did God really say…?” Then, in our minds, we begin to think maybe God didn’t mean this or that. We then give in to temptation and sin. The consequences can sometimes be very drastic and earth-shattering for us, which is what the enemy wanted all along.

For Today: Ask yourself, “Am I listening to the voices of the enemy or do I trust the Heart of Jesus?”

The BattlegroundGenesis 3:1-6; John 8:44TUESDAY

WEDNESDAY Victory?1 Peter 5:9-10; James 4:7-8

THURSDAY A Kingdom Divided Against ItselfEphesians 6:12

FRIDAY Listening to God’s VoiceJudges 6:12-16

Our enemy is powerful. However, he is not all-powerful like our God! Today’s Scriptures tells us how to overcome the enemy. We can resist him. We don’t have to buy into his lies. When we are tempted to disobey God we can run, we can say no! However, will we say no? I love the verse found in 1 Peter 2:24 from the NLT “He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By His wounds you are healed.” We are dead to sin, to the voices of the enemy. If we allow God to work in our lives we can resist the enemy!

For Today: Know you have the power, through the Spirit, to resist the enemy and say “No!” to him. We can have victory over the enemy!

There was an event that took place in the history of God’s people during the period known as the Judges. Gideon was one of these judges. When we meet him, he is timid and doesn’t feel qualified for God to use him. The Lord even calls him a “mighty” warrior and he doesn’t even acknowledge it. He has listened to the enemy’s voice for so long that he doesn’t see himself the way God sees him. How about us? We have an enemy who wants to destroy our ability to see ourselves the way God sees us. Do we know that we are made in the image of God? Do we see ourselves the way God sees us? God wants us to listen to His voice and know we are made in His image.

For Today: Ask yourself, “Will I listen to God’s voice or to my enemy’s?”

As a follower of Jesus our enemy is Satan, or the devil. One of the tactics he likes to use is to get followers of Jesus to fight against each other. The verse today lets us know that our enemy is not flesh and blood, meaning other people. When we disagree with someone doctrinally, theologically, etc., they are not our enemy. Why does Satan like to make us think they are? Look at John 13:35. Jesus was speaking to His disciples and to us and said, “your love for one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples.” If our love for each other shows the world that we follow Jesus and will draw people to Him, what happens when we fight against each other? We play right into the enemy’s hand. The world is turned off to Jesus when this happens.

For Today: May God help us show authentic love to everyone.
