New Shul Policies

In an effort to put less wear and tear on our building, and prevent inappro-priate crowding in our parking lot, the shul's leadership is asking for all our members' help in implementing three new policies.

ONE - All baby-strollers should be parked in the front of the building or on the side, under the overhang by the alleyway. We want to cut down on the dirt tracking in on our carpets and the difficulty strollers present in moving about the halls. Thank you to all moms and dads, and grandparents, for your cooperation with this new policy. Members of our board of trustees will be asked to help remind people of this policy (as needed).

TWO - The kiddush committee will be putting out a few tables, in the social hall, so shul members can fully enjoy the kiddush and rest their plates & cups on these tables; no more juggling cups and plates while standing! The commit-tee asks that, when you're done eating and drinking at kiddush, please leave all cups and plates on the tables or dis-pose of them in the garbage cans pro-vided around the room; Please do not leave discarded cups or plates on the chairs or on the floor. And please check that your children do not leave their plates, cups, or candy wrappers on the chairs or floors either. Following these simple steps will extend the life of the chairs and floor, improve the safety for others in the social hall and to improve the appearance for those attending the kiddush.

THREE - In the interest of public safety, and to improve traffic flow in our park-ing lot, we will begin enforcing the 'No Parking' policy for fire lanes. This means that people should not park their cars inside the areas with yellow lines and in the area in front of the shed. Parking in any of these areas would impede the arrival of fire or police vehicles, in the event of an emergency (Chas V'shalom). From this point on, members of the shul leadership are encouraged to call the Highland Park Police Dept whenever they see a vehicle parked in one of the no-parking zones in our lot and to ask that the vehicle be ticketed.

Thank you for your cooperation with these new policies. For more informa-tion, please speak with Shul President Steve Deutsch or send him an email at [email protected]

Unveiling and Yahrtzeit Shiur for Dr. Morris Gorlin

The unveiling for Dr. Morris Gorlin Z"L will take place at the OE section of Washington Cemetery on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.

Rabbi Avraham Gorlin will be giving a yahrzeit shiur in honor of his father, Dr. Morris Gorlin Z"L, on Shabbat, 27 Av (August 19), one hour before Mincha. The primary texts that will be covered are Talmud Bavli Chagigah 4A, Talmud Yerushalmi Terumos 4A and Talmud Yerushalmi Gittin 37B.

An Open Appeal from An OE Member Family

A campaign has been started by longtime members of our community, who are presently struggling with the serious issue of having a family member trying to recover in rehab. They need to raise about $6,000 a month and rehab can take about a year. Please open up your hearts and help this local family keep their son in rehab. (Please note: Rabbi Kaufman and Rabbi Kaminetzky have reviewed this issue and the great need of the family and encourage all to help in this extremely worthy and life saving effort.) Please visit

We warmly welcome all newcomers to our shul and our community. If the rabbi,
