Leming and daughters spent Thursday and Fri- day visiting friends at Glovers- ville. Miss Georgia Chase of Schenevus is spending the week with her sis- ter, Mrs. Philip Bley. Miss Clara Jenks, who retired from the Margaretville Central school faculty a year ago, recently underwent a major operation at the Fox hospital in Oneonta. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Griffin, Stamford's Outlook Brighter Although during the past few years there has prevailed in Stam- ford a pessimistic attitude ^as to the future of the community as a simimer resort, there are indica- tions now of a rejuvenation of the spirits of the people here, and it is generally admitted that the outlook for Stamford's future is better than it has been for some time. The rather depressed spirit in Stamford for the past few years has been caused by the decline in the resort business. However, it must be realized that changed con- ditions everywhere are partly re- sponsible for the decline in busi- ness and that other resort sections are suflFering the same as Stam- ford in this respect. Improved highways, faster and better modes of travel and changed demands and requirements of the summer vaca- tionist have resulted in a condition the country over which has work- ed against the stability of the sum- mer resort business. In many cases now, the summer vacationist spends a few days or a week end at one resort and then goes on to another, instead of remaining the season through in one location, as was quite the vogue a few decades ago. Most summer hotels have been compelled to maintain a full complement of labor throughout a greater part of the season, and their weekly costs have been rath- er constant; so when their income has constantly fluctuated, as it has for many years, it has been a se- rious problem for many to main- daughter, Dora, and son, Harold, Jr., of Rochelle Park, N. S. was held at the Skene library Monday evening. Mrs. Fraser, county chairman, was the speaker. She explained the work fully. Officers were elected for the Fleischmanns unit and committees appointed. Classes are being formed for first aid and nursing study. The next meeting will be held at the Ubrary next Monday evening. Given Surprise Party Mr. and Mrs. Manley Murray of Ferris Hill, Grand Gorge, were given a surprise party Tuesday evening, Jime 24th in honor of their twenty-fifth wedding anni- versary by their daughters. Misses Ruth E. and Catherine Murray. F i f t e e n were present including Mr. and Mrs. HowarQ Murray and daughter Alma Jane of Rox- bury, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Mur- ray Jewett,' Mr. and Mrs. Ral(^ Murray and family and Floyd Murray and family of Grand Gorge. Supper included a beauti- ful amniversary cake decorated apprt^riately, and Mr. and Mrs. Murray were presented with a beautiful bouquet flowers by their daughters. Mrs. Murray was formerly Miss Gertrude Brooks. Last Friday and Sa- turday the thermometer registered nearly 3.0Q in the shade.
