Denis O’Flynn graduated from University College Dublin with a Bachelor degree of Science (Microbiology) in 1982. He worked for Diageo from 1984-1998 in various roles in Production, Logistics, and HR.
He joined Pernod Ricard in 1998 as HR Director Production Division, Irish Distillers. In July 1999 he was appointed HR Director Irish Distillers Group. In March 2010, he was appointed Commercial Director Ireland, then Managing Director, Ireland in July 2011.
Denis has been the Managing Director of Pernod Ricard UK since October 2011.
Kevin Gaskell was appointed Managing Director of Porsche GB at the age of 32. In 5 years his team rebuilt the brand and turned a business close to bankruptcy into the UK’s mostprofitablecarcompany.HethenmovedtoBMWasUKManaging Director where he led the company to 4 years of record growth.
He was recognised as one of the ‘top 40 leaders under 40’ in the UK. He left BMW to found a dotcom - epyx Limited - which in 5 years grew from a good idea to market leader. He was Global CEO of EurotaxGlass’s where his team integrated 30 businesses to create the world leader in automotive data.
He now acts as an executive Chairman to a number of growing companies, one of which was recently recognised as the best private equity investment of the year.

Miles has overall responsibility for the WSTA business, including organisational strategy, public affairs, member services and public relations. Miles joined from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, where he was Deputy Director for EU and international agriculture policy. He was previously deputy director for European and global issues at theCabinetOfficeandspentmuchofhisearlycareerattheDepartment of Communities and Local Government.
Miles has worked across a broad range of public policy, including urban regeneration, drugs policy and social exclusion,andhasbeeninvolvedinsignificantnegotiationsatnational and European level. He has also worked closely with senior Ministers in successive governments.
Alex Forrest is a broadcast journalist who has primarily worked for ITV as both a presenter and reporter, including as political correspondent in Westminster.
Since moving to Copenhagen she has been reporting for both BBC World and Al Jazeera English as well as writing for various publications.
Her numerous corporate roles include producing and presenting videos for Maersk Oil and Saxo Bank as well as media training c-suite clients and strategic communications.
Alex is a regular panellist in both the UK and Denmark.

Having spent over 18 years working in top UK agencies, Jon has been responsible for highly successful campaigns across a range of major brands. Many are known for their market leading innovation, including multi awarded campaigns for Nike, the launch of Harry Potter online and re-launch of Save the Children. More recently Jon has extended his experience into the alcohol sector, working across a range of Diageo brands, including the launch of Haig Club with David Beckham.
Jon co-founded adam&eve in 2008, (best known for their John Lewis ads) which went on to become the UK’s most successful start-up agency, winning agency of the year in 2010. adam&eve was acquired by Omnicom in 2012 and merged with the UK advertising agency DDB. After only two years as the newly formed adam&eveDDB, the agency was appointed Agency of The Year and International Agency of the Year for 2015.
Until January 2006, Karen was CEO of Spirit Group Ltd, a 2,000 strong pub and restaurant group built up from the acquisition of Allied Domecq Ltd and the subsequent acquisition and integration of Scottish and Newcastle Retail in November 2003. Karen sold Spirit to Punch Taverns in January 2006.
Prior toSpirit,Karenfounded,grewandfloatedCaféRougeand The Pelican Group Plc, which she sold to Whitbread in July 1996. Karen was awarded a CBE in 2006 for services to hospitality and in 2013 an honorary Doctorate from UEA.
Karen now runs Food and Fuel Ltd in London which consists of thirteengastropubsandcafe-bars.Shealsoholdsasignificantstake in Fernandez and Wells which has 6 cafes in London and is growing fast. Karen is also a Non Executive Director of Corbin & King Restaurants Ltd, and Chairman of Hawksmoor, a London-based group of steak restaurants, among many other businesses.

Sam has been a judge with the International Wine and Spirits Competition for the last 10 years. She became secretary of the local and biggest vineyard association (South East Vineyard Association) for 5 years then chairman for almost 3 years. This chairmanship gave her a seat on the United Kingdom Vineyard Association council, where she was able to play a part in the shaping of the English Wine Industry.
Sam is looking forward to a bright future. Bolney Wine Estate won its first gold ‘outstanding’ medal in the IWSCthis year for one of their premium sparkling wines, Blanc de Blancs 2007. She was also highly commended in the Rose Gray Food Pioneer category in the 2012 Red’s Hot Woman Awards.Tofinishoff thesuccessof2012shealsowonUKWine Producer of the Year 2012, in the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Kristof is co-founder and CEO of InSites Consulting, helping global brands all over the world boost local brand relevance by generating, activating and validating fresh consumer insights.
Having spent more than 20 years with world leading brands, his passion is to make companies ‘consumer-activated’. He is co-author of the book ‘The Consumer Consulting Board’, has published numerous articles in A-rated journals such as the Journal of Marketing and frequently speaks at various research and marketing events worldwide. He is a proud member of Switch & Shift’s ‘League of Extraordinary Thinkers’, the second most socially shared leadership blog in the world, for which he regularly blogs.
He is also member of the Advisory Board of Bank van Breda, external member of the IKEA Business & Consumer Intelligence Council and former Associate Marketing Professor and Member of the Board of Vlerick Business School.

John’s areas of responsibility include EU & International issues, Customs & Excise, imported and ‘made’ wines, technical policy, bottling, packaging, warehousing, logistics, and food safety. He also serves on a number of industry committees at Global, European and UK levels.

Louise has particular expertise in export markets, and works on nternational Issues, WTO, WHO, SpiritsEUROPE and acts as a SpiritsEUROPE Rapporteur for Japan. She is involved with a number of committees including the Spirits Council and the RTD Working Group.

Simon joined the WSTA in September 2013 and brings experience of the EU having worked in Brussels for over 10 years. With responsibility for European Affairs, he is also involved with a number of Committees including the Wine Importers Panel and Distance Selling Panel.

David RichardsonRegulatory & Commercial Affairs Director
David supports a number of WSTA Groups, particularly on issues such as the Spirit Drinks Regulation, ingredient and nutrition labelling, working with HMRC and DEFRA. He is also continuing to develop the WSTA’s work on responding to fraud, participating in the Joint Alcohol Anti-Fraud Task Force.

Carlo is responsible for managing the WSTA’s UK policy program. Additionally, he leads on the WSTA’s social responsibility work through the Responsibility Deal and on projects to tackle underage drinking including the Retail of Alcohol Standards Group, Community Alcohol Partnerships and Challenge 25.

Lucy joined WSTA in July 2015 and brings with her over 18 years’ experience working as a journalist in the local and national media. Her role includes media relations, corporate communications, working on the WSTA’s future campaigns and with membership to highlight the cultural and economic importance of the industry.

As Head of Technical Policy, Jennifer’s role includes providing secretariat support to the Technical Committee. Jennifer’s background is as an Analytical Biochemist (she has a PhD lookingatthehealthbenefitsofredwine),andsheworkedforanumber of year at the Food Standards Agency in both their Food Standards and Nutrition teams.
