Sacred ConversationBonifazio de’ Pitati, called Bonifazio Veronese

Venetian (1487–1553)

This painting once graced the ancestral home of Winston Churchill. After two years of restoration, Conservator David Bull completed and returned this work to M&G's galleries in 2012.

From the DirectorKing Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, penned that “there is no new thing under the sun.” Every day as my staff and I get to share the collection with people of all ages and backgrounds, we enjoy linking the past and its people to our living experiences today, which opens the eyes of appreciation for the artists who captured glimpses of their culture within their craftsmanship that still endures. Each dusty, old object in the collection tells a story of human experiences and beliefs bringing to life the past, shrinking the distance of time, and revealing universal truths.Preserving these influential remnants of our past through the care, research, display, and sharing of the collection is an overwhelming

task—a commitment that each staff member enjoys as we seek to reach our mission of enriching the whole man—mind, heart, and soul.

Just as the collection’s paintings open vistas of times past, I hope the images and experiences of the people we served this last year provide a view for you of how your friendship and financial support have not only strengthened the collection, but more importantly made a difference in the lives of thousands benefitting from M&G as an educational and cultural resource.

Thank you for giving of yourself to let these “old things” still communicate their relevant and inspiring messages!

M&G RevenueM&G’s annual income consists largely of the generous giving of individual donors and foundations; other support comes from grants and M&G’s admission, sales, and services. Thank you for your important part in helping M&G provide quality programs and offerings as we fulfill our mission to reach out to such a diverse audience!

very year, I know that the students will leave understanding more of what they learned in the classroom. Always excellent! Parent

chaperones who had not previously visited were very impressed vowing to return on their own. We had three groups with three docents. Each guide apparently emphasized slightly different things because the kids were comparing notes on the way home. This is a tremendous bargain for the quality of the tour and the teaching. I plan to continue bringing students. It is something I look forward to, and the students remember. We love the Museum & Gallery! Thank you so much!—Private School Educator

A Closer Look at Arts EncounterA key facet of M&G’s monthly outreach is providing low cost arts integration programming for thousands of K-12 students to enjoy, for the benefit of educators and families. In addition to web worksheets, self-guided scavenger hunts, Homeschool Days for home educators and students, and Children’s Learning Centers with interactive stations at both museum sites, there are four programs M&G uses to engage kids in cross-curricular learning through art:

• Museum on the Move: in-the-classroom lessons tailored to each class/subject, taught by M&G’s SC-certified educator, and meeting the state standards.

• Kid’s Create!: summer art day camp for kids 5-14 years of age

• Children’s Christmas Celebration: a family event focused on Christmas traditions of cultures around the world represented by the countries and centuries in M&G’s broad collection

• CulturalDiscoveryTours:interactivetoursatbothmuseum sites tailored to each class and age group

excellent things about the tours from

chaperones and students alike. I really

appreciate all the work that you put into

e’ve been living in Greenville,

SC for almost a year, and had

heard from many that we need to visit the

Bob Jones University Museum & Gallery.

Having lived in Spain for twelve years, and

visited Florence, Italy, I really wasn’t expecting

to be very impressed by a small museum

in Greenville. Wow! was I surprised! Their

collection of religious art really does rival

many collections that I have seen!”

M&G MissionThrough its collection of sacred art, the Bob Jones University Museum & Gallery exists to promote the appreciation, understanding, and preservation of quality fine art that reflects universal and scriptural truths based on God’s Word and works. M&G extends its collection into communities at home and abroad through its educational and cultural outreaches that enrich the whole man—mind, heart, and soul.

About the Cover: This rare 14th-century ivory carving, The Trinity, represents the first major acquisition to M&G’s collection in over 15 years since the museum’s founder, Dr. Bob Jones Jr., passed away. The generous, visionary support of the Audrey Love Charitable Foundation made the purchase of this beautiful and diminutive ivory possible.
