Annual Inspections- What Why When and Who?

What are Annual Inspections and why do we have them?

FORMAL ANSWER; (Regional Formation Commanders – ACF responsibilities, ACF Manual Chap1, Appendix1, Annex B, para 9)

The District/Brigade Commander, or an Army Officer nominated by him, accompanied by theCadet Commandant or his representative is to make at least one annual visit to every ACF Detachment in its own location. These are to be carried out between 1st Apr – 31st Mar.

The purpose of the inspection is to; a) meet the Detachment Commander, other officers and AI’s and help resolve any problems.b) Examine Detachment roll book, and records, ensure that training is being carried out in

accordance with current policy and instructions in the APC syllabus and ensure that all training is being conducted safely.

c) Inspect the accommodation and training facilities, to ensure that the arrangements for the security of arms and ammunition are in accordance with LANDSO2901 and the SHEF instructions are known and being complied with.

d) Report problems and irregularities through the chain of command to HQ RF, RFCA and ACFA as appropriate

Annual Inspections- Grading

As to Chap 1, Appendix 1 to Annex B of the ACF Manual, para 11.

Standards that a Detachment is expected to achieve annually, and those which should be used as criteria when deciding whether or not a Detachment has attained the required standards are as follows;

a) At least 2 Adults should have attended regularly for evening and weekend training.

b) There should have been an average strength of not less than 15 cadets throughout the year.

c) There should have been a satisfactory standard of training based on Star qualifications gained during the year. Qualifications gained in DoE award should also be considered.

d) At least 50% of the adults and cadets on strength, who have more than a years service should have attended Annual Camp.
