Greetings,everyone!Welcome to the BISG AnnualMeeting ofMembers. I am delighted you have joined us aswe gathertogether as one community, devoted to delivering great content into the hands of readers so it caninform,educate,andentertainthemindsandheartsofaglobalaudience.Since joining BISG a littlemore than twomonths ago, I have been impressed by the dedication anddevotiontothismission,whichIheardinvirtuallyeverymeetingandconversationIhavehad.Thatidealallowsustomovepastourpositionascompetitorsandworktogetherforthegoodofthecommunityand,ultimately,thereader. Ibelieveweareuniqueinthiscommitmenttomission;noteveryindustrycansaythesame.I,andthestaffofBISG,takeourcallingasshepherdsoftheworkofthiscommunityseriouslyandwithgreat passion. RECIPIENTTom Clarkson's career in book distributionsystemsbeganatIngramBookCompanyin1970.DuringhistimeatIngram,hewasresponsibleforimplementing the original warehousemanagement system, the first automated orderentry system, and the initial product database.In 1982, he formed a distribution systemsconsultinggroupandgainedasclientsanumberof book wholesalers and retailers around thecountry.HejoinedBarnes&Noble,Inc.in1991,where he served as corporate EDI Coordinator;Director of Systems for Barnes & NobleDistribution, and corporate Director of SupplyChain Technology. Tom authored the secondeditionoftheBarnes&Noblevendorguidelinesfor shipping practices, incorporating BISGrecommendedstandards.Retiring fromBarnes&Noble in 2007, Tomhas continued consulting on physical distributionsystems,operatingasCumberlandSystemsReviewGroup.Tom has been a member of BISG since the mid-1970s. He served as BISAC Chair, BISAC EDICoordinator,andmemberofseveralBISACcommittees.HechairedtheBISACMachineReadableCodingCommitteeduring the transition to ISBN-13.Hewasco-authorof theBISGpublicationGuidelines for Shipping Container Labeling. He is a current member of the IdentificationCommittee.

CONNIEHARBISONhasbeeninvolvedinthebookindustryforover25years,startingasatradebookbuyerinoneofBarnes&Noble'scollegebookstores.She was with RR Bowker for 13 years, working with data integration andquality. For the past 10 years, Connie has worked as Director ofQualityAssurance for Baker & Taylor. She has served as Chairman of theBISACSubjectCommitteeforthepast11years.ConnieholdsaBAandMAinEnglishLiteraturefromTheCatholicUniversityofAmericaandaMLSdegreefromRutgersUniversity. Inaddition,shevolunteerswith localorganizationsandhasservedasTreasurer of theHillsboroughPublic LibraryAdvisoryBoard and secretary of theHillsboroughBaseballLeagueforanumberofyears.
MICHAELOLENICK,BusinessAnalystatBowker,hasbeenanintegralmemberoftheSubjectCommitteesinceitsinceptionandhasrecentlytakenovertheleadership of the ThemaWorking Group. Under his guidance, theWorkingGroupupdatedtheBISAC-to-Themamappingtoreflectthelatesteditionsofeach schema. He has also presented themapping in BISGwebcasts and isworking with Thema to increase the US coverage in Thema’s GeographicQualifiers.
RICHARD STARK is the Director of Product Data at Barnes & Noble. Since1999 he has chaired the BISGMetadata Committee. Mr. Stark has been aleader in the development ofmany book industry standards and practices,including ONIX, the ISBN standard, and BISG's Best Practices for ProductMetadata. He hasworked in bookselling and publishing for over twenty-sixyears. In addition tohis long tenureatBarnes&Noble,hehasworked forMcGraw-Hill,Muze,Borders,Waldenbooks,andindependentbookshops.Mr.StarkwaseducatedatSt.John'sCollegeinSantaFe,NewMexico,andinthepublicschoolsoftheCityofNewYork.
CATHERINETOOLANgraduatedfromDrewUniversityafterattendingcollegesinwarmweathercities.HerworkexperienceincludesstintsatAT&T,Bellcore,and Rutgers University. Catherine joined Firebrand Technologies in 2000,after a long absence from the work force to raise her family. She lovesmanaging the Eloquence service and believes itmakes a difference in howpublishers "get the word out." She enjoys time with family and friends,horsebackriding,outdooractivities,singlemaltscotch,andIndianfood.

Throughoutthe2014-2015fiscalyear,BISGstaffworkedwithBookNetCanadatoplananddevelopareplacementtoBISG'sformerProductDataCertificationProgram(PDCP).Throughthepreviousprogram,ONIXdatafilesweremanuallyevaluatedbyacertificationpanelmanaged,supervised,andsupportedbyBISG.ThepanelcomprisedrepresentativesfromleadingdatarecipientsinNorthAmerica,includingBaker&Taylor,Barnes&Noble,Bowker,Ingram,andtheLibraryofCongress.
