Yes. College follows syllabi set by the University. Six of our faculty members, serve in the

university board of studies of various subjects. Most of the faculty members have taken part

in the workshops for syllabus restructuring conducted by the university.

The diploma certification program offered by the department of Electronics entered into the

second year. The program is funded by UGC and is a three year certification programme. The

training provides additional skills required for increasing the employability of the students.

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes:

The IQAC encourages the Heads of various Departments to analyze the University results in each

semester, instead of analyzing the statistics annually as done in previous years. A half yearly review

meeting in this regard was initiated by the IQAC to present the department wise statistics. This

helps in sensing early warning signals and to adopt corrective measures accordingly.

Two internal examinations and one model examination is conducted for all the students during

odd and even semesters. In addition to these pre scheduled examinations, surprise tests are also

administered by the respective teachers in their subject.

SSP program arrange special teaching sessions for weak students during which previous year

university questions are discussed with emphasis on how each question is to be answered.

The IQAC circulates information about seminars and conferences organized by various

institutions in and outside India. The teachers are encouraged to attend maximum number of

seminars and workshops to refresh and update their knowledge in the subject.

Also, in 2015-16, nine minor projects were completed and there are three ongoing minor

research projects at present.

Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse

The Anti-narcotics Cell and IQAC in association with the College Union organized a

one day program and seminar titled "An Awareness on Drug Abuse" on 26-02-16.

National Service Scheme donated blood to various hospitals like Government Medical college Kottayam, Caritas Hospital Kottayam ,Devamatha Hospital Koothattukulam , Medical trust Ernakulam , MOSC Medical College Kolenchery, Red Cross Blood Bank Raipur Chhattisgarh , MUM Hospital Monappilly at several occasions in the year and also to the needy patients.

Promotion of Organic Farming

Uncontrolled use of pesticides and fertilizers has maligned soil and water alike.

Classes were organized to introduce the concept of organic farming to the new

generation.

Initiatives for Cleanliness

Cleaned premises of the Government Ayurveda Hospital, Palachuvadu, Piravom as a part of

the cleanliness drive.

Helping the destitute

Raised fund to help the poor and sick. The details of the funds disbursed is shown in the table

IQAC took measures in speeding up the issuing of students certificates by simplifying the

procedure.

Also news updates on scholarships and grants are published in the college web site for

further awareness.

Feedbacks are collected from alumni from time to time. College placement cell continues to

extent their assistance in finding suitable employment even for the pass out students. The

Alumni association, Shadows, also circulates information on job openings to assist those who

are seeking better career options.

Faculty members in University board of studies are keen on revamping and updating the

syllabi time to time.

Teachers are using ICT tools for better discourse of the topics lectured. Also support programs such as SSP address the weak students. Many teachers in addition to class room teaching offer online support also.

Support programs like WWS and SSP ensure that the students are motivated enough in pursuing their dreams. Lecture series, media visit, industrial visit, publication, open forums, workshops etc. extends a broader horizon to the students outlook.

All University examinations are conducted centrally. Our teachers shoulder various

responsibilities as the Chairman, Chief and additional examiner in the university examination

Two teachers submitted their research thesis and another faculty Mr. Shajan P X was

awarded PhD degree.

Nine minor research projects were successfully completed and submitted during the

academic year.

Added around 600 books to the college library in the year. Newly appointed teachers

including the guest faculty is given training in using ICT devices.

Responsibilities were assigned to all the staff members uniformly. Ones personal capability

and interest are also considered while entrusting a responsibility.

Student leaders were also chosen to assist teachers in various cells. This in turn enriches the

student’s individual talents and leadership potential.

Hands on training in using Internet and other social media.

As a part of recreation programmes for the staff, games and sports are conducted annually. One day tour was also organized for fostering relationship and team work.

Constantly discourages use of plastic materials inside and outside the campus. Awareness

programs on side effects of plastics and plastic abuse are imparted time to time by way of

seminars and posters.

NSS and NCC units take up such issues as a matter of prime importance and empower their

volunteers to work for this mission.

Reader’s forum organized a book exhibition on rare books to create a curiosity and interest

among students.

Organized ‘Award day’ for honouring meritorious students. Around Thirty awards and

recognitions were distributed.

Organized New Year Eve celebrations after the class hours to which all the people residing in the

neighbourhood with their families were invited. This provided an opportunity for students to

interact with them as well as for the rural community in the neighbourhood to understand and

experience campus life.

Organized national conference as it was planned in the beginning of the academic year. Also

nine UGC minor research projects were completed.

Tutorial group

A group of twenty students is assigned to each teacher, who will be their local guardian

The nature club planted several trees across the length and breadth of the campus. Student volunteers are appointed to nurture the trees they planted. Also initiatives on organic farming are undertaken.

The institution has great potential for growth. Over these years the institution is able to make

several achievements in the realm of academics and sports. The students are given all

rounding coaching aimed to mould and build individuals as good citizens for the nation. This

has been proved several ways, especially by way of extending financial assistance for medical

treatment to the needy several times in a frame of year. Needless to say, the institution is

poised as one of the best college under Mahatma Gandhi University.

Placement Cell 2015-16

A batch of thirteen students of various disciplines from our College attended pooled

recruitment drive by Wipro Technologies held at Marian College, Kuttikanam on 12th

August 2015. Three students among the students who gained provisional selection were

from this college

A batch of fifteen students from our College attended TCS placement drive at St.

Thomas Arts and Science College, Puthencruze on 30th

November 2015. Three students

got placed.

Infosys BPO came recruiting on 10th

December 2016 and our College hosted a pooled

recruitment drive. As many as two hundred ninety-four students from in and around

Ernakulam and Kottayam participated in the event. They selected thirty-nine students of

which seven were from our College.

Twenty-nine students from our College participated in a pooled recruitment drive held at

St. Thomas Arts and Science College on 13th

January 2016 in which Emphasis

Technologies came recruiting.

Accenture Technologies conducted a pooled recruitment drive at Amrita School of

Communications on 16th

January 2016 in which thirty-nine of our students participated.

We conducted a two-day training program on Group Discussion and Interview skills on

23rd

and 24th

February 2016. All the final year students attended this program which was

by Mr.Geevarghese Mathew.

A group of twelve students from BBA program participated in the pooled recruitment

drive held at Marian College, Kuttikanam on 23rd

February 2016 where Syntel Sock

Trading Company came recruiting.
