Innovative methods of teaching:

The college utilizes the following innovative methods in teaching-learning process,

whereas the quantum and extent of their usage are based on relevance, situation,

appropriateness, activities and outcome:

ICT enabled flexible teaching system:

A lecture assisted by ICT tools is one of the major innovative methods used. Computer

assisted teaching-learning is used by all the departments. Power point presentations using

LCD are extensively used by the teachers. Complicated topics are explained effectively

using video clips searched from internet.

Special softwares are used to teach subjects such as chemdraw in chemistry.

Usage of video clips by department of Biotechnology for explaining complicated topics

and processes.

Computer assisted teaching is an integral part of the department of Computer Science for

all the courses at UG and PG level, such as ADO.NET with SQL server is taught with

demonstration on projector for life sciences.

The processes occurring at micro level are studied in the class with the help of videos and

animations on the topics for the benefit of students and teachers.

College has organized conference on „Use of ICT Tools in Education‟. The experts from

various disciplines gave a wide spectrum of knowledge on use and application of ICT

tools.

Page 11: Annual Quality Assurance Report - DYPVPacs.dypvp.edu.in/Downloads/AQAR-Report-2014-2015.pdf · Annual Quality Assurance Report 2014-2015 ... (Commerce) practical slips” ... MCA

Active learning:

In hand training workshops organized on various subjects for students provide a reflective

learning tool to the students. In the department of Biotechnology a workshop on „Basic

Techniques in Protein Purification‟ was organized for the students where students received

hands on training of the experimental techniques from the experts along with the

explanatory presentation and printed notes for their study. In the department of Chemistry,

a workshop on „Use of Microscope Techniques in Organic Compound Analysis‟ gave

hands on training of laboratory techniques from the experts. In the department of

Microbiology, a workshop on „Use of MATLAB and SPSS in Research‟ provided a

powerful tool of data analysis to the students through the training sessions.

Simulations:

Skills laboratory provides training to students through simulations and demonstrations of

skills. Some examples of use of simulation by the departments are enlisted below:

Language lab with lingua phones in department of English imparts speaking and

listening skills in English language.

Tally ERP.9, conducted by the department of Commerce is used to train the students

in the commerce related aspects.

Regulated power supply, working of electronic components and devices and working

of complicated circuits etc in department of Electronics.

Various concepts of mechanics, waves and oscillations, optics and modern physics in

the department of Physics.

Identification of plants by using websites, to study the plant families by

demonstrating the possible plant species in classroom teaching and visit to poly

house to understand the concept of floriculture in department of Botany.

In department of Biotechnology simulations of complicated metabolic pathways and

cellular processes are taught.

In department of Chemistry, complex organic processes are explained.

Evidence based teaching:

Science departments such as Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biotechnology

and Physics make use of equipment, slides and apparatus for teaching-learning purpose.

Emphasis is on the development of required skills, adequate knowledge and appropriate

attitude to approach a solution. Use of acquired skills and knowledge for finding a solution

using prepare attitude is noted during participation of students in academic, co-curricular

and extra-curricular activities. The present of qualities such as social commitment, morality

and ethics in behaviours of students is observed quite often during these activities.

Problem based learning:

Problem based teaching sessions are used by all the departments which include solving of

previous question papers, question banks of numerical, objective questions, short questions

and long questions for practice of solving.

Student assisted teaching:

Practical sessions conducted in laboratories, field work, industrial trainings and projects

directly involve students in teaching-learning process. Seminars, project presentations are

given by students efficiently by using PPT.

PRESENTATION OF 21 TYPES OF PATRA-PATRI

The Ganesh festival this year began on 29th august. We had our normal plans in our minds so as to how

we would celebrate the days. But, we got to know about the idea of dictating the people the importance of

21 types of patra-patri (used for ganesh puja) in the form of flex as was directed by our “SAVITRIBAI

PHULE PUNE UNIVERSITY”, and with this idea this year ganesh festival seemed to be more

interesting.

We were provided with the flex and information of the 21 types of patra-patri by our teaching faculty,

Former DYPSA (D Y Patil Science Association) Dr. A B Patil sir, Environmental Science Committee

Chairman Prof. S M Kamble, Students welfare and grievance Committee Chairman Prof. N S Mohite

mam. We formed a team of 3 members, divided our job and were all set to go.

We then started collecting the information of nearby Ganesh Mandal and Societies. Finally, we got the

permission from “GAWANE MITRA MANDAL” to present our presentation on 4th sept, 2014. We

reached there well before time and set up our flex and made all our arrangements. Slowly, more and more

crowd started gathering over there and we started our presentation.

We divided the work of dictating the information of 21 types of patra-patri among all our team members

so that no one was left out. We dictated them the common name, botanical name, medicinal importance

and the shloks associated with all the respective patris. Each of the person was stunned to know the large

number of medicinal uses associated with each patra-patri.

The next day, we visited “ANTARIKSH SOCIETY” (5th sept, 2014). We were expecting a small crowd

in society as compared to mandal .But to our surprise, it turned out to be wrong and a large crowd

gathered over there. We presented our presentation and were highly applaused.

This activity not only gave us the knowledge regarding the 21 types of patra-patri, but also helped us to

develop good communication skill. We learned the qualities of leadership, team work. We got to know

the hidden potentials of each of us. We got to know a number of institutions, a number of intellectual

peoples and a number of friends.

We would like to continue this activity throughout the year, presenting 1-2 presentations every month at

different places, and would request our institution and our university to encourage some more such

activities.

Finally we would like to thank our BOTANY DEPARTMENT, Prof. N.S. Mohite mam, our university

SAVITRIBAI PHULE PUNE UNIVERSITY and the entire group associated with this idea for

encouraging students for such an activity.

Activity to aware the society about ‘Importance of 21 medicinal plants offered to Lord

Ganesh’

Period: Ganesh Festival, 2014

Board of students‟ welfare, Savitribai Phule Pune University always encourages us to conduct the

activities that of students‟ benefit. We feel that if students are made aware about their responsibilities

towards society, they will be certainly grown into good citizens. We generally observe that many of our

spiritual or religious rituals are followed by people blindly. All religious festivals are having scientific

base that is overlooked by the society and everything is converted into superstitions. Many people so

called sadhus or babas then take disadvantage of people‟s innocence and keep them making fools. Taking

this fact into consideration, college applied for the sanction of the different kind of society oriented

activity of „Awareness about 21 plants i.e. patra-patri offered to worship Lord Ganesha‟. Activity was

conducted by the department of Botany of our college.

Flex were printed with the pictures and all information about the plants like their botanical name, Sanskrit

name, related ritual from Sanskrit books, and the medicinal importance of those plants. The students of

second year B.Sc. course were guided and trained for the explanation of all these plants. It was planned

take this information to the society during Ganesha festival, the period when people make use of these

plants unknowingly. Students were sent to various public and private society‟s Ganesh Mandals to

explain the medicinal importance of these plants.

The activity was successfully completed and will be continued in future.

College extend heartfelt thanks to the Board of Students‟ Welfare, Savitribai Phule Pune University for
