1 ANNUAL REPORT OF THEATRE AGE (A GROUP FOR UPLIFTMENT OF SLUM CHILDREN) FOR THE PERIOD 1 st APRIL 2006 to 31 st MARCH 2007. Theatre Age carried various regular activities like, educational classes for dropout slum children are held after 2.30 pm onward everyday and followed by lunchand dinner, Dance classes and Theatre classes are also held for enrolled students. her remarks called it “A shining example of Theatre-led social change”.

Industrial workforce on HIV/AIDS at “Abhishek Industry Pvt. Ltd”. Barnala. The

performance gained appreciation from the host Industry and the special guests

present at the occasion.

3. 3rd November, 2006 : Confederation of Indian Industry (Northen Region) again

invited for a stage performance to sensitize Industrial work force on HIV/AIDS at

“Liberty Shoes Ltd.” Karnal. The play was based on theme “Aao Zindagi Ko

Dein Hum Naya Ek Ayaam”. The audience present on the occasion applauded the

theme and appreciated the performance.

4. 12th November, 2006 : Staged a play “Gandhi Ki Vapsi” during Chandigarh

Theatre Festival organized by the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademy at Tagore

Theatre. Writer & Director of the play conveyed the message that if Gandhi

comes back to life to see how his beloved nation is faring and has to face ugly

reality.

5. 30th November, 2006 : Mr. Veer Pal from polishing shoes to donning the

greasepaint. He admitted that he learnt make-up, acting and dance from Theatre

Age organization and utilized the time he got after my working hours in honing

these skills. He has been working in Doorsharn, Alpha TV and Era Channel. He

gave entire credit of his success to Theatre Age. Theatre Age organization not

only teaches shoeshine boys but also trained them in acting and dance too.

6. 23rd December, 2006 : Indian Express donated fifteen jackets to children of

Theatre Age group and promised to donate every year.

7. 25th December, 2006 to 1st January, 2007: Theatre Age society received a

invitation from Friends of moral Rearmaments Panchgani (Maharastra) for five

days All India children’s Camp. After receiving invitation children had been

rehearsing and working long hours to get everything right. At Panchgani in the

camp children abided by rules & regulations but the camp was not less than a

military drill. The only thing that pinched them was that they could not interact in

English. The play staged at Panchgani “Gandhi Ki Vapsi” appreciated by the

spectators/audience.

Annual Report -2008-09It is a matter of great pleasure for we to get back to my esteemed members with the annual round

up of the activities undertaken by your beloved NGO Theatre Age, from 01st April, 2008 to 31st

March, 2009. The year was very eventful and the NGO achieved several new milestones in

different fields. More then 20 students availed the coaching facilities at our NGO and cleared

their exams successfully. Small children of NGO successfully stage the big 2 hrs. play – Charan

Das Chor to packed holes during Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Academy Festival. Children went

down to villages to spread the massage about hazards of polythene and evils of drugs addiction.

Quality of meals served registered big improvements in contents eminent persons from various

fields of art and culture visited the NGO and shared their experiences with children’s A brief

report ours activities under various segments is given below.

1. EDUCATION :

Educating underprivileged children is our prime motive. Our 30 students have been using our

Educational activities. They are in the age group of 10 to 20 years, from 3rd class to 12th class .

In the academic years ending March 2008, 20 students passed out their exams and entered

New classes. Credit must be given to our dedicated volunteers for ensuring the success of

These children. Apart from formal education, children were also given training in subjects

Like music, dance and drama.

CHILDREN’S WELFARE:

Beside s importing education, The NGO also looks after their Complete needs like

provided two healthy meals, lunch and dinner, provided full sets of

Summer and winter uniforms, books, notebooks and even daily use items like soap,

toothpaste, shampoo etc. to ensure their good personal hygiene . A parent - teacher meeting

concluded with serving of dinner to all the invitees .

WORKSHOPS :

A large number of workshops were organized during the year to educate children various

relevant issues.

1. Workshop on Cookery 2. Mrs. Rajni Taneja, a Govt. School Teacher organized a workshop on 23rd July, 2008 to for

demonstrating working to children.

3. Workshop on Theatre Management

Eminent theatrist , Sh. Parveen Shekhar from allahbad visited the NGO on 23 rd july,08 and

share his experiences man famed of various theatre activities .

4. Ru-ba-Ru with sh. Kamal Vidrohi : Vetran theatrist Sh. Kamal Vidrohi , currently settled

In Germany, visited the NGO on 21-09-2008, during his visit to India. He briefed children

on various aspects of theatre and his experiences.

5. Workshop on Theatre Techniques : Tow vive theatre personality of West Bengal ,

Smt. Usha Gangully held a one day workshop on performing techniques in theatre at the

NGO on 06-12-2008 .

6. Workshop on Art of Paper making :

Artist of renowned theatre group of Sh. Alakh Nandan , Theatre guru from Bhopal, on 13

to 14 Dec , 2008 organized a two day workshop on the art and technique of papermachie .

Our children made attractive items of paper making in the workshop.

7. Workshop on drawing perspective : Final year student of Govt. College of Architecture ,

Chandigarh on 8 March, 2008 teach children techniques of drawing perspectives of

buildings structures etc.

8. Workshop on Clay Modeling : Encouraged by their first experience , students of

Architectures College held another workshop 15-03-2009 for teaching techniques of clay

modeling to our children.

EXCURSIONS With a view to expose children to wider perspective, we organized two outstation

education trip for children. First was one day trip to historical city of Kurukshetra on

29-06-08. Second trip was for holy city Amritsar, from 2nd Aug to 5th Aug ,2008 . This trip

was sponsored by famous charitable organization “ Pingalwara” Amritsar.

SPACIAL CELEBRATION To ensure overall balanced personality development and grooming our children. We lay

special stress on celebrating prominent festivals of our country ,with full involvement of

our children . On every occasion , children propose occasion specific cultural items and

present them on festival day . Functions are followed by distribution of sweets and snacks.

This year function celebrated by our children included:

Independence day ,Dipawali on 28-10-08, Gurupurab, X- Mass celebration on , Lohri with

bone fire on , Republic Day at State Bank of India , Colorful Holi..

CULTURAL PROGRAMMES

Apart from importing formal education, we take special care to teach dance, drama and

music to our children give wonderfully artistic performances. The performances not only

entertain people but also spread awareness on critical social issue like hazards of

polythene and dangers of drugs addiction. During 2008-09, our cultural programs

Whatever good work we may do, the theatre remains our basic inspiration. The year

was special for theatre as 42 little children of our NGO presented a marvelous

OTHER ACHIEVMENTS

Special Modified Two Wheeler

Well wishers of our NGO contributed for purchasing a specially modified Kinetic Scooter, with

two support wheels to facilitate movement of the handicapped student –Raj Manchal of our NGO.

We also arranged for monthly reimbursement of Rs.750/- per month for petrol from Red Cross,

Chandigarh The vehicle coasted Rs. 28,000/-.

Honoring of Shri Suraj Kumar

Our dedicated worker responsible for collecting old newspapers from our 600 members was

honoured by Rotary Club, Chandigarh on 1.10.2008 for his excellent and sincere services.

Membership for Donation of old Newspapers

The year saw good increase in the numbers registered with out NGO for donating old

newspapers. A total 230 new members joined us, raising the number of members to 610.

Annual Report 2009- 2010 March

It is with great pleasure and pride for us to get back to our esteemed members with the

annual round up of the activities undertaken by Theatre Age from 1st April, 2009 to 31st

March 2010. This year was very eventful and the NGO achieved many new milestones in

various fields. Around 50 students availed the coaching facilities at our NGO and cleared

their exams with flying colors. Small children of our NGO successfully staged numerous

plays to packed houses. Children went down to villages to raise the levels of awareness

about exercising the right to vote, hazards of polythene and ill effects of drug addiction.

Quality of meals served at the NGO registered improvements both in quality and content.

April, 2009

The academic year started on a high note. All 25 students of Theatre Age passed their

annual examinations with flying colours. All the volunteer teachers were honored by I.S.

Sandhu, ADC Chandigarh. Mr S.P. Singh, Secretary Food & Supply – Punjab, was the

guest of honour along with Income Tax Commissioner, Mrs Baljeet Bains (Retd) On 11th

April, A small party was organized my Ms Ashi Parasher, where the students performed a

dance.

On 15th April, a cultural program was organized at Him Prisar, Sector 37, Chandigarh

where Theatre Age students performed ‘Akbar Birbal’, ‘Education for All’, ‘ Polydon’, ‘

Vande Mataram’ and Dance.

To enhance socio political consciousness among people and strengthen their resolve to

make judicious use of their ‘Right to Vote’ the students of Theatre Age staged a play

‘Election.’ Important issues like casting of votes to the right candidate were also raised at

different places in Chandigarh. Voting is not a right alone but also a power that needs to

be exercised with prudence. This voter awareness campaign was in collaboration with

CII: Young India Chandigarh Chapter, with Neelam Singh as Guest of honour. Two

shows of Election awareness were staged at Manimajra & Ram Darbar.

In the month of May, a street play ‘Baad Mein Mat Bolna’ was performed at Sukhna

Lake, which was sponsored by CII. The same play was staged at Sector 17 Plaza, St

Stephens - Sec 45, Punjab University and Fun Republic.

On 16th May, a cultural program was organized at Punjab Kala Bhavan, Sector 16,

sponsored by Institution for Secretarial Practices and Development (INSPIRE).

A trip to Agra was organized from 17th May to 21st May, 2009 for Theatre Age students.

The trip was sponsored by SBI. Students visited the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Mathura.

Stay arrangements were made at Youth Hostel.

Music recitals were organized in the school premises. Ms Deepa Bajaj, taught the

students ‘Meera Ke Bhajan’. Strumming 7 notes of music infused enthusiasm, excitement

and transformed the atmosphere in to a melodious one. It helped identify talent and

basics of rhythm helped bring about tranquility and peace. On 31st May, Tobacco Day

was celebrated by staging a play ‘Drugs’ in Sector 17.

June, 2009

Since, June is the month of summer vacations, music classes were arranged by Mr Rajesh

in the mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. Mr Rajesh was assisted by three students from GCG,

Sector 11.

In the evenings, there were regular classes in dance and theatre. From 20th June, English

classes were organized in the premises to improve the students command over the

language.

July, 2009

In this month, Raman one of the students at Theatre Age, joined Arts College, Sector 10.

He was among the top 10 in the All India Entrance Exam. Education is the greatest

leveller and this has been held up by many students of Theatre Age who win laurels while

competing with other students. A fund raising program was organized in Gurukul,

Panchkula by Theatre Age students.

August, 2009

On the eve of Independence Day, ‘Vande Mataram’ a dance performance was staged in

Sector 24 and ‘Polydon’, a play was staged in University Campus on ill effect of using

polythene.

September, 2009

A dance workshop was organized from 9th September onwards by a Delhi based trainer,

Ravi Rastogi in Hallmark School, Panchkula. Students of Theatre Age, were taught

western dance style to commemorate Michael Jackson. They were also familiarized with

nuances of Jazz and Salsa.

Id was celebrated on 21st September. On 27th Sep various plays were staged in Kalibari

Mandir, Sector 47, Chandigarh.

October, 2009

On 2nd October Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated and stories of Mahatma’s life were shared

with students of the group. ‘Judgment’ a play was staged at Chitkara Institute, Banur.

Play on ‘Drugs’ was staged at Sector 43, Judicial Academy on 10th October. On the 15th, a

cultural program was organized by Britannia where the Chief Guest was Ms Shalini their

Director from Bangalore.

On 16th October a special program was organized for Pingalwara Palsora by Theatre Age

children as part of Diwali celebrations. On 17th Diwali was celebrated in school premises.

On 19th a cultural program was showcased for Dell. They donated 42 pairs of shoes for

Theatre Age students.

November, 2009

On 4th a cultural program was showcased for Tata Indicom employees at Mohali. On 13th

a play was staged at Law Bhavan sponsored by Symbiosis Institute of Media &

Communication. On the 14th, a painting competition was organized by ‘ASK’ to

celebrate Children’s Day.

Mr Rajesh Thukral, honorary secretary of Surya Educational & Charitable trust came

down to visit the students of Theatre Age. He gave them a reassurance that any student

getting up to 70% marks in class 12th will be given admission in Engineering College. He

also distributed books and notebooks to children. Kids staged ‘Akbar Birbal’, an English

play.

December, 2009

A dance program was presented at Tagore on ‘Mukesh Night’.

Christmas was celebrated with much fanfare in the Government High School, Sector 24.

A documentary was made by Discovery channel on Theatre Age & its students, which

was then telecast across the globe.

January, 2010

The New Year started on a positive note for Theatre Age. State Bank of India donated a

three wheeler auto to aid in collection of old newspapers. Mr S K Sehgal, Chief GM of

the Chandigarh branch gave some valuable advice to the students on this occasion.

February, 2010

This month was majorly devoted to studying for the final exams in March. Students

worked hard for the impending exams. Volunteers took regular classes to guide the

students, provide them with tips and clear their last minute doubts.

March, 2010

Holi was celebrated on 1st March. On 8th Commonwealth was celebrated with local

Common wealth Director Mr Khan of Bangladesh. All 39 students of Theatre Age passed

their annual exams with flying colours.
