Annual Report 2015
IEEE FISAT SB
IEEE took its roots at FISAT in November 2003. It was initiated by Shri S Gopakumar, the
Student's Activities Chairman and IEEE GOLD MEMBER Shri Varghese Cherian. Various
programmes are conducted at the FISAT campus by the IEEE Student Branch, which includes
Technical Talks, Management Sessions, Workshops, Seminars. Each year we have more than
200 fresh IEEE student members from our SB. This chapter has been rated among the top 5
active student branches in Kerala section.
FISAT SB Events
Annual General Body Meeting Date: 11 March, 2013 Venue: Seminar Hall , FISAT. Participants: 150
The annual general body meeting of the year 2015 was held on 11.03.2015, Wednesday, from 4.30 pm in the main seminar hall of FISAT. The chief guest of the event was the collage principal Dr. KSM Panicker. Mr. Deepak Mohan delivered the welcome speech, which was followed by the Code of ethics by Ms. Pavitra Pradeep. In his speech, Dr. Panicker emphasized on the glorious functioning of the FISAT IEEE SB. Mr. Praveen V, Branch Counsellor, IEEE FISAT SB rendered the felicitation speech. Mr. Raghav Swaminathan, the outgoing secretary of the Student Branch, presented the annual report which emphasized on all the successful events conducted in the academic year 2014 including the one day LINK Level event ‘IMPULSE’ and the 3 day International event ‘TESLA’. After the EXECOM TRANSFER, the new EXECOM under the Chairmanship of Arun R Nair presented the annual plan for the year 2015. Certificates and mementos were presented to all the outgoing EXECOM members. Tharun Tomy was awarded the best guild Head award. Mr. Darwin Davis delivered the vote of thanks.

Cognizance’15 Date: 7th March, 2015
Venue: Seminar Hall, FISAT SB, Angamaly
No. of participants: 160 participants
Cognizance 2015 was a technical event organized by the first year students of BTech , held at the main seminar hall. The event aimed at popularizing the IEEE organization amongst the students while providing them a platform to exhibit innovative ideas. The participation strength for the event was a 160.The program commenced at 9:30 am which was kicked off by an ice breaking session where the participants were grouped into various teams followed by the first technical session of the day which was handled by Vishak. The event then proceeded to a simple yet stimulating game which was followed by another technical session which was taken by Sreehari. A treasure hunt was conducted parallel to the morning session. The event resumed at 1:00 pm after a short break with a technical session on Teleportation handled by Renjith followed by a fun filled game that entertained the students and allowed them to communicate their ideas on a variety of topics. This was succeeded by the last technical session of the day which was handled by Devika Nair after which a Quiz was conducted which not only entertained the participants but also invoked qualities such as team work in them. In conclusion, the event succeeded in fulfilling its aim along with updating the students with various aspects of the present day developments, all in a magical and memorable way!
Online Debate Competition Date : 16th and 17th April, 2015
Venue : Online
A 24 hour long Online Debate Competition was organized for the IEEE members of the
college from 16th April 2015 to 17th April 2015. The topic given for debating was ‘Net
Neutrality’. Participants presented their views on the topic. The Event saw a healthy
competition between the supporters and defenders of the topic. The event had a
participation of 23 from different years of BTech. Results were announced on 18th April
2015 and Mr.Nitin Saxena of S8 EI was awarded the First prize followed by Akaksh Nambiar
of S1S2 ECEA and Thwufailu Zaman of S1S2 CSEB. With this debate competition , Students
came to know about the various aspects of ‘Net Neutrality’, Its advantages as well as
disadvantages.

Poster Designing Workshop Date: 23rd March,2015 Participants: 5
A poster designing competition was conducted by WIE affinity group of IEEE FISAT Student
Branch on 23rd of March 2015. Students were asked to design posters on the theme
‘Women Empowerment’.From more than 5 entries received, poster designed by Mr,Rahul
Ravi of S4 EIE was awarded the first Prize. He was awarded with Certificate and IEEE
Goodies.
Article Writing Competition
Date: 13th January, 2015 Participants: 12 An Article Writing competition was organized by the Student Branch on 13th January 2015.
Students were asked to write articles on any technically relevant topic. 12 students
submitted their articles from which 3 of them were selected as the best and this is to be
published in the Student Branch Newsletter which is under preparation.

Volunteer Training I Date: 15th July 2015 Venue: MBA Seminar Hall, FISAT Participants: 100
The volunteer training programme (VOLT) was organized on 15th July 2015. The main aim of
this programme was to give a basic training to fellow IEEE members about volunteering and
conducting a Inter- Collegiate Event. The session started with an ice breaker followed by
how to volunteer for an event and why to volunteer for an event. The session was handled
by various senior student members of IEEE. It continued with the various factors to be taken
care of, while organizing an event.
Volunteer Training II Date: 22nd July 2015 Venue: MBA Seminar Hall, FISAT Participants: 100
The Second phase of volunteer training programme (VOLT) was organized on 23rd July 2015.
The main aim of this programme was to give a basic idea about the Kochi Hub Meet to be
conducted in the college. Students were made aware of the schedule and proper trainings
were given to the volunteers by their respective Team leads. It continued with the various
factors to be taken care of, while organizing an event.

Kochi Hub Meet 2015 Date: 24th and 25th July 2015 Venue: FISAT Participants: 260 One of the most coveted events of IEEE Kerala Section, Kochi Hub Meet 2015, was hosted by
the Federal Institute of Science and Technology on 24th and 25th of July, 2015. The event
witnessed a participation of 260 which is a record no of participation for a hub event.
The First day kick started with the Ice Breaking session led by Sanju Sony Kurian, Technical
Lead at Kings Learning, where the whole of crowd were provided with immense
opportunities of getting to know each other through innovative yet entertaining activities.
This was followed by a session headed by Sunil Paul, from TechGeeva, which gave a new
insight for the students on robotics as he spoke about robotics and demonstrated the
working of his own robot. The inaugural Ceremony of KHM2015 was the next event which
was done by Hon. Ernakulam District Collector, Mr.Rajamanickam IAS in the presence of
FISAT Management and the entire crowd. There were instances where the audience got to
laugh and think as the collector turned to an old engineering student.
The evening sessions were held in parallel. The first parallel events were by Mohammed
Ramees, President of Microsoft developers community, Kerala, who held a session on the
benefits of being an IEEE member and various offers from Microsoft for a student and a very
interesting session by Jennifer Kumar, CEO of, on interview training. The next two parallel
events were entertaining as well as technical in nature. The first was the prelims of Best
Manager where finalists were filtered by filling the questionnaire that had mind boggling
queries set to find out the most eligible candidates. On day 2 group discussion and a stress
interview were held where emerged as the best managers. The second was scrapyard
contraption, an event which aims at brainstorming the participants and channelling their
innovative thoughts to create wonders from scrap the bidding was done on the day 1 with 4
teams having 10 participants each while the day 2 witnessed the 3 hour long construction.
The Second day of the event mainly comprised of Technical workshops. Lab view, Octave,
VLSI, Latex and 2 managerial workshops were the workshops organized for the event.

WIE Star Programme Date: st August Venue: Govt. Residential School, Chalakudy Participants: 90
The volunteer training programme (VOLT) was organized on 1st August 2013. The main aim
of this programme was to give a basic training to fellow IEEE members about volunteering
and conducting a national level tech fest. The session started with an ice breaker followed
by how to volunteer for an event and why to volunteer for an event. The session was
handled by various senior student members of IEEE. It continued with the various factors to
be taken care of , while organizing an event.
IEEE day Celebrations
Date: 2nd October Venue: Seminar Hall Participants: 40 This year, IEEE FISAT Student Branch celebrated IEEE day on 2nd of October 2013, JIGANSA 2K13.The celebrations Kicked off with the inaugural speech of Ms.Vishakha Khona by welcoming the gathering. This was followed by an ice breaking session handled by Roshan Cyriac. Students from different branches got to know each other after this session. The next session was an event management session which dealt with the planning and execution of an event given to the participants at random. The Morning session came to an end with the stress interview by Emil Jose that tested the participant’s managerial and social skills.

Online Campaigning for World AIDS Day
Date: December 1st
Members of the student branch did an online campaigning and awareness programme to
observe world AIDS day and to spread the message to people across the globe on that
particular day rearding the same. The online campaigning started from 30th November 8.00
pm and lasted till December 2 8.00 pm. The members of our student branch shared posters
designed by them to spread the awareness.

Achievements
Deepak Mohan was selected as the KOCHI HUB Electronic Communication Coordinator. Deepak Mohan was selected to the organizing committee of AISYC 2015. Anand Paul and Sudheer V M got selected to attended the AISYC 2015 held at Rajagiri
School of Engineering, Kakkanad. Rahul Ravi was assigned as the Designing team lead of Kochi hub Newsletter team. Thomas Paul and Jyojith George were selected to the Kochi Hub Newsletter team. Anand J was selected to the Designing team of All India Computer Society’s Newsletter. Surabhi Kannan has been selected as newsletter design head of Women In Computing,
IEEE Computer Society, India Council. Akash Nambiar, Aiswarya Baiju, Vishakh Ajith, Adithya S Raj, Anand J and Deepak
Mohan attended the AICSSYC held at NSIT, Delhi.
