LABORATORY COOP: WHERE IT ALL STARTED Paglaum Community Development Foundation’s mission has always been to uplift the poverty stricken community of Plaridel , Misamis Occidental. With the child as point of entry, the organization aims to empower and mold the children to become self-reliant and self-generative member of his community. Paglaum MPC as the social arm of the foundation, saw the youth’s market potential to generate funds, Hence, formed the Laboratory Coop Program. It has the following objectives:

a. To mold the youth as “second liners” of Paglaum MPC, specifically to serve as training ground for members in the management and operations of the cooperative.

b. To develop the leadership abilities of the children. c. To train the children in financial literacy and the importance of saving. d. To self-reliant and responsible members of Paglaum Laboratory Cooperative. e. To hone their skills in time management and organizational skills. f. To give its members the opportunity to participate in collective decision-making that is based in

profound sense of social responsibility. g. To instill to its members the core values of PMPC such as honesty and integrity.

Through the program, some members of the Laboratory Coop had been given the chance to join leadership trainings, team building seminars and meeting the President of the Philippines in a summit. Possibilities are endless for these kids. PMPC has high hopes that through this program, it will be able to produce well-rounded individuals that will soon be leaders of this community.

FUTURE PLANS: Paglaum Laboratory Coop will soon launch its “Balik Eskwela promo” in the opening of classes. One goal we are aiming to reach is to teach the children the importance of “financial intelligence” and develop the habit of savings. Children are taught arithmetic in school but never about how to handle money, the difference between asset and liabilities. Through the promo, PMPC will give talks and short film viewing about the topics mentioned above.
