Annual Report 2013 The Foundation acts as a custodian for major grants and bequests in support of speci�ic BGC San Dieguito programs and activities, and will administer them at its own cost. Contributions arrive through direct gifts (cash, land, stocks, insurance and mortgages) and through delayed gifting via bequests and charitable trusts. The Foundation supports the operating Club by: • Providing non-interest-bearing loans to assist the operating Club’s cash �low • Undertaking studies and demographic surveys to project future needs • Seeking land to acquire for new Club facilities • Making grants for off-budget items such as capital improvements and special projects • Providing scholarships to needy and deserving youth The Heritage Club is comprised of men and women who have given gifts to the Foundation using any of the following methods: • An outright gift to the BGC San Dieguito Foundation of money, securities, property or other marketable assets • Creation of a unitrust, annuity trust, pooled income fund, short-term trust or life estate program • Naming the BGC San Dieguito Foundation as the eventual recipient of life insurance • Naming the BGC San Dieguito Foundation to receive a bequest in one’s will It is a pleasure to serve as President of this amazing organization. The Foundation’s mission is to support the operating club and its many outstanding programs and facilities, as well as administer scholarships for young people pursuing a higher education. This objective could not be attained without the tremendous support of board members, volunteers, staff and the generous community. -Eric Nelte, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito Foundation President DID YOU KNOW? • The Foundation administers �ive higher education scholarship funds and granted approximately $45,000 to 47 students in 2013 • Since 1977, the Foundation has given over $6 million to the Operating Club to include: Conducting the $2.5 million Polster Branch Capital Campaign in Carmel Valley; contributing $1 million to the Harper Branch Capital Campaign in Solana Beach, and giving over $450,000 to youth for college scholarships. • In 2013, the Foundation successfully completed their $100,000 matching gift campaign with a total of $200,000 raised ($100,000 from an anonymous donor), which was granted to the Operating Club to help reduce the debt. 2013 BOARD OF TRUSTEES Co-Chairman Terry Lingenfelder Larry McDonald Chairman Emeritus Douglas O.
