PRESIDENT’S REPORT

If you had said to me at the start of the year the 1st XI would play finals and five out of our six teams would play finals – would l have taken that, and my answer would have been a resounding YES. Well done to all players. Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for their ongoing support in these very tough economic conditions – every cent counts and we could not operate without the generous support of these businesses.

12 months ago l took the president’s role on to help out and to try and make a difference. Over that period you cannot do or make a lot of changes but what you can do is find out how the club works and what is needed to improve our club. Things that this year’s committee achieved:

Separating the on field and off field running of the club – The committee and Coop’s team

Organising all jobs that are required to operate and delegating committee to these jobs

Completing 1 major project every year

Running a transparent club

Monthly P & L Reports

Improve how we are seen around the Peninsula and by the League

Building a strong family culture around our club

Trying to bring people back to the club – Thursdays and Saturday nights (Tammy and Kellie)

Review or Codes of Conduct

Present our club to all who visit as a clean, professional and well organised one.

Have people leaving our club after matches say “What a great club

So a lot has happened in 12 months but plenty more to go. I just want to thank a few people for their contribution this year Vice President Luke Smith Luke brings a cool head to our committee – his experience and long term knowledge of our club really gives great balance to the place. He is always there and l value his opinion as he is my go to man. Secretary Scott Morrow What more can l say about Scott - the amount of emails, ingoing and outgoing mail that he handles each week is enormous. He has a great memory and his knowledge of the club both past and present is something that l have lent on many times. His communication of information to all parts of our club means nothing falls through the cracks. Scott is the main reason the club runs so well off the field and l personally thank him for the support he has given me – we work well together and l enjoy his input on all issues arising. Treasurer Al Davie

One of the main reasons l took on the role as President was to make sure that our finances had to be transparent and for Profit and Loss statements be available every month for all to read. Al’s role as treasurer is the most important role in the club and the systems he has put in place have delivered exactly what l asked. The hours you have put in this year haven’t gone unnoticed by me and l thank you very much. Your contribution to the club both on and off the field cannot be overlooked. Junior Vice President –Mauro Managing and setting up the juniors is a massive job but Mauro for the second year has handled it without any issues at all. He knows what needs to be done and goes about it with the minimum of fuss. Well done Mauro as you must be very proud of the role you play , as the success of our club in the future comes from the work you do. Love your work. I would like to thank all the committee Matt Davie – General up keep of everything Jack Heverin, Chairman of Selectors, Merchandise, Thickbail Paul Morrow – Everything asked of him – bar Greg Talbot – Junior involvement and general Ryan Sayers – Grants and general Kellie Brooker – General duties and organising Thursdays and Saturday nights Gary Rees -Sponsorship Nathan Volpe - General committee duties WOK – Unsung hero to me Zac Peddersen – Running and organising Milo Cricket Steve Byrne – Bar David Ross – general duties All our committee played a part in the improvement of our club this year and l thank them very much Pink Stumps day – Danielle and your team of workers – WELL DONE – VERY PROUD. Over 90 people attended and the rooms looked fantastic – local support from the community was unbelievable and to raise over $9,000 was just out of this world. The team that have organised Presentation Night, thank you very much – most of us just turn up but there is a heap that’s required to make a night like this come together so thanks. Club Coach Mark Cooper Coop’s we have spoken at length over the past year and there is no doubt we were finding our feet back in the top division – to play finals in our first year back was a great achievement but the way we finished wasn’t – What that semi final showed us was the level we need to strive for in the future. We have the players but l don’t feel we work hard enough to better ourselves and our club. I will identify 1 player who worked his butt off over pre season and was clearly the hardest worker in the club by the length of the straight and his performance this year as our number one fast bowler showed what hard work brings – To Matt Davie well done and l hope that a number of players take a leaf out of his book, as that’s the sort of work it’s going to take for us to become a power house in this competition. The talent is there we just have to work harder. Well done Coop’s in your second year at the club. Assistant coaches – Dwayne, Mal and Andy Thank you for your involvement this year, this hard work and support of Mark - The drive to succeed and improve our performance in the future lies with you guys and its up to the club to give you all the support so that you can deliver this. Tim Harper / Mick Hooper / Roger Brearley To you 3 guys thank you for your ongoing support of the 1st XI – the years of experience and sharing of your knowledge of the game certainly helps the team deal with all types of situations. The team and club is better because of your involvement.

To all the captains - Mark, Al/Steve, Wok, Clint, Bakes/ Chris and Joycey - Thank you for the role you each play in changing the culture of the way our club plays cricket. I’m sure your sick of me mentioning our codes of conduct, showing respect for our opposition , behaviour on and off the field – l have enjoyed all our many discussions over the year. The club is in a better place because of you. Just want to share with you the Future direction and things that the committee will be working on

Separate subcommittee for junior body

Future leaders program to help develop our leaders from inside the club

Disciplinary Committee –

Selection criteria – and make it visible for all

1 major project every year

Run two junior functions to engage the junior parents – organised by the junior sub committee

Past Players / Sponsors days to be set up

Continue to develop a strong Business Plan that has long term strategies for the club and the direction in which we want to head.

60th Anniversary Year – subcommittee set up to organise this great night that will be held at the RSL on the 8th November.

In closing – some of you may or may not know that l will not be continuing in the role as President next year. I took on a new job on the 1st of October last year – which just happened to be the first day of cricket season, and the time required to do this job is a lot. I want to be able to watch my 3 boys on any given Saturday and spending time with my wife at the same time. I have given the past 14 years of my life to the junior football club, coached a junior cricket side every one of those years and if you don’t know me by now l give 100% into any commitment l make and l feel l need a break but I will always be around to help out and do the odd job and give advice if asked. I wish the club all the success but the club needs you to stand up and be counted and make a difference – Put your hand up and MAKE A DIFFERENCE – DON’T LEAVE IT TO THE SAME PEOPLE YEAR IN YEAR OUT. COACH’S/FIRST XI REPORT As season 2013/14 is coming to an end with our 2nds and 3rds winning the flag and our 4ths finishing runner up in a close battle, it is a good time to reflect on the season we had from the playing side of things. To get 5 out of 6 teams into the final has been a great result for the club and the playing group. For the first and second eleven to move up to Provincial and to win 7 games in the firsts and undefeated in the seconds has also been a good achievement. Our aim as a club is to become a powerhouse of the competition for years to come. I like to talk about this season as being a transitional phase for the club in our quest to achieve this goal. Selection has seen people move up and down the grades. We have seen what the standard is like and what we require now to compete at the highest level of our competition. We have made some inroads throughout this season but we have a long way to go. In our first eleven we have again played about 15 guys in the ones and a couple who were close. We also played a lot more of our next generation of players through our 20/20 season. If we look at Mornington’s firsts as a benchmark for the competition, they are building their team around youth and the next generation of player. Through our transitional year this year we have started moving towards this phase and the talent that was on show in the 2nds and 3rds grand finals will hold us in good stead for years to come. A real positive point for the season was our junior coaching clinic. It enabled the senior club to nurture, get to know individuals and develop this youth in our club. It was our first ever attempt at the coaching clinic for our junior players and the community and we had about 60 young cricketers turn up ranging from 7 to 16 years of age. The feedback from parents and supporters was really positive and they would like 2 of these each season. We will look to expand this and have one before and one after the Christmas break next season. Our ability as a club, especially over the last 2 years, to fulfil our youth’s talents and provide them with a pathway in our club and beyond was evident in trying to pick out an award for the best performance by an under 21 player. We had 4 hundreds made, 3 nineties, 2 six fors and 3 five fors throughout our grades in this age bracket. Also most of them all moved up a grade of seniors from the previous year. We also provided a two team practise match against a Premier club in Dandenong to expose them further to better cricketers. All in all it was quite a successful year. With a further commitment from all our playing group to look towards the future and to realise what it takes to be successful will drive us to new heights for season 2014-15. A detailed set of selection criteria will outline this commitment expected to play in each of the grades for next season. With this, a strong commitment from the coaching staff, the committee and the playing group, we will continue to create and refine an environment to succeed. This will also help training standards and behaviours that are exhibited around the club. Season 2014-15 is a crucial year for the clubs future and I hope everyone will come back in the right frame of mind to take this club to the next phase of where it wants to be, a powerhouse in the MPCA. JUNIOR CO-ORDINATORS’ REPORT

I would like to thank all the coaches and Parents who volunteered their time to make this year a successful one both on and off the field. It makes a co-ordinators job a lot easier when you have excellent people around you. This year the MPCA decided to revert back to U10-12-14-16 We fielded 1 x u16s -2 x U14s- 2 x u12s and 1 x u10s side and we had 2x u12 sides making finals with one of them progressing through to the grand final but lost in a close game Like to thank all the coaches who did great job Peter Edwards, Jamie Jewiss, Greg Talbot and Darren Guinea coaching the under 12s, Rob Prosser u16, Michael Spring and Ricky Ramsdale coaching U14s and Craig Hunter who coached the U10s . Milo cricket was a great success this year thanks to the efforts of Zach Peddersen and the kids from SEDA Cricket Victoria. They ran the program with great success. We had a great number of kids this year with over 80. This year we decided to again run a barbeque every Friday night in conjunction with Friday night Milo cricket and u10 games. Congratulations to all the junior award winners on their achievements especially Jai Elcock on winner the junior club Champion Mauro Sollecito

TEAM REPORTS

SECONDS Starting out in Season 2013/14 we were back in provincial for the first time after four seasons in District. Selection for round 1 was always going to be tough as numbers were good at pre-season training. We made five changes to our Grand Final side from the previous year with young guns Matt Davie and Joel Bateman getting a start as we played last year’s premiers Mt Martha and came away with a fairly convincing win with our new look side. Throughout the season we were not really challenged with the bat which really made it hard to get the lower order a hit due to such a strong performance from our top order until we came up against Heatherhill at Bruce Park in Round 7. In a one dayer Heatherhill set us 199 to win when for the first time our top order failed to be 8/100. This left the odds against us needing 99 to win off 13 overs with Matt Prosser and Joel Bateman at the crease. In the best performance of the year the boys did with an over to spare with some brilliant running between the wickets with the odd four. This was a display of the depth we have got in the twos. We went through the season undefeated heading into finals with a bowling attack that started us off with new recruit Andy McMannis and young gun Joel Bateman who proved to be a formidable opening pair. Backing them up with Byrna, Wusty, Matty Prosser, and Volpe was going to be a nightmare for opposition. Our batting strength was equally as strong with great form from Simon McEvoy, Aaron Edwards, Matt Prosser, Peter Edwards, Ben Wells and Taylor Smith. We went into the semi final with plenty of confidence against Heatherhill but in the back of our mind of the tight tussle during the year against them. We won the toss and had a hit. We amassed a huge 7/320 with performances from Taylor Smith 55, Matt Prosser 131, Peter Edwards 28, Aaron Edwards 19 and late runs from Volpe and Byrna. It was our turn with the ball with Joel taking the first over with Andy McMannis and they set the tone with a blistering display. We rolled Heatherhill for 60 off 35 overs with fantastic performances form our bowlers with Joel 3/18 off 11, Andy 1/4 off 7, Matt Prosser 2/22 off 10 and Byrna 4/16 off 7 to head into the Grand Final. This is the one we play for and up against Mount Eliza it was shaping to be a good contest. Again we won the toss and elected to bat. We got off to and steady start with Jarred Coad and Taylor Smith up against some tight bowling from the opposition. We were slow and steady early but with wickets in hand knew we could set a big total and we did. We finished the day with 8/302 which was fantastic with brilliant efforts form Taylor 51, Matt Prosser 92 Peter Edwards 100 and a magnificent cameo from Aaron Edwards 23. Joel was leading us with the ball again with his partner in crime Andy and were very hard to get away with Joel striking with our first with a brilliant stumping from Tay. Mount Eliza fought hard in the middle stages with great bowling from Matt Prosser and Nathan Volpe with little reward but were very tight. This set it up for Byrna and Wusty to go in for the kill as the run rate was climbing for the Mounties which produced great bowling with Byrna 2/45 off 11 and Wusty (I love grand finals) 5/26 off 11 to bring us to a fantastic win. Right from the outset we had a great balance in Youth and experience and we were a very tight outfit which played for each other and enjoyed each other’s performances. Season highlights –

Players to watch are Andrew Smith and Mitch Bromley who both had a taste and should develop into handy first XI cricketers in the future. As always a special mention to our team manager and much loved by the whole team in Nadia Wust for all her work and help during a fantastic year. Thank You Nadia. Alan Davie. 2nd Eleven Captain

THIRDS

I would like to thank senior coach Mark Cooper for the opportunity to captain the 3rd XI and his band of assistants for attempting to make us better cricketers with their hard work and dedication every Tuesday and Thursday night at training. A big Thanks to Jack Heverin the chairman of selectors we had many robust discussions throughout the seasons but we ultimately ended up with best side possible for the 3rd XI each and every week. Rob Prosser and his committee thanks for putting us on the paddock every week and for allowing us to just concentrate on winning and not have to worry about the annoying things such as cones, chairs, drinks and afternoon teas. On to the playing side of things and we had a great home and away season only losing 1 game and that was on the last wicket, we had some outstanding individual performances through the season with Mitch Bromley making 126 against French Island. Jamie Jewiss with a superb 151 against Long Island, Jarred Coad with 94 against Balnarring, Andrew Smith with 5 for 29 on debut in the 3rd XI against a strong Mornington line up, Stephen Perry with 5 for 10 against Somerville, Swooper with a devastating 5 for 9 on debut against French Island and Jacob Brooker with a match winning 6 for 29 against arch rival Baden Powell. We also had 5 players average over 35 with the bat for the season and 7 players average under 15 with the ball in a very even performance with no bowler bowling over 100 overs for the season. The young players that we were able develop in the side was very pleasing from my perspective with Andrew Smith being the spearhead of our attack and Sam Prosser the rock at the top of the order with the bat along with Mitch Bromley all of these players should be pushing for higher selection next season and Jacob Brooker and Josh Mack made outstanding contributions for our side when they came up from the 4th XI and will be expected to cement their spot in at least the 3rd Xl next season. Semi Final Day against Somerville winning the toss and batting first the guys did not let the skipper down posting 6 for 280 off our allotted overs with 56 from Mitch Bromley, 54 from Jack Heverin, 54* from Daniel Bray, 35 from Stephen Perry and 30 from Mat Poore. Our turn to bowl on Sunday and we were on top early with disciplined line and length bowling always putting Somerville further and further behind the run rate, we ended up dismissing Somerville for 136 of 60 overs the wickets were shared around except for Jamie Jewiss producing a master class of swing bowling with the old ball to destroy the Somerville middle order with 4 for 5. Grand final day against Mt Eliza started the same as the week before with us winning the toss and electing bat first, we were able to bat out our allotted overs against a very strong bowling attack making 197 with good contributions from Jack Heverin 20, Sam Prosser 24, Mat Poore 27, Daniel Bray 27 and a magnificent gutsy 54 from vice captain Wade Thomas. It was always going to come down to the wire with a strong batting display from Mt Eliza we were in control early with Andrew Smith removing their top run scorer from the semi final with sheer pace. Mt Eliza dug in with 50 run partnership until the spin twins were introduced immediately taking 3 quick wickets and applying the brakes to their run chase and turning over the overs at a rapid rate having 54 down by tea. With Mt Eliza needing 84 runs for 6 wickets off 21 overs after tea they made it to 160 then Steve Perry and Jamie Jewiss struck to remove both the existing batsman with tight bowling. Mount Eliza needed 17 off 24 balls 4 wickets in hand and it was going to be hard from here but Jamie struck with a big inswinging yorker to trap the batsman in front and the old wise head of Steve Perry managed to suck their captain into nicking one behind and following it up with a corker to take the next batsman’s off stump first ball in the very next over Jamie threw down a lollipop that the batsman proceeded to try and hit out off the park only for it to go straight in the air and as

soon as we all saw Daniel Bray parked underneath it we knew the flag was ours dismissing Mt. Eliza for 186 and a eleven victory to us. #FYME. FOURTHS

First off I'd like to thank Langwarrin Cricket Club for giving me the opportunity to captain this year it's something I'm very proud of and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The 4th eleven had a solid year whilst never having a settled side until very late in the year we still managed to only drop 2 games for the home and away season. We also got to see the future players of our club in Josh Mack, Josh Bateman, Riley Davie and Mitch Reid given some senior cricket experience and all held their own extremely well. Coming into finals I knew we were a strong chance of doing well as our strongest side was going to be hard to beat and we showed that in the semi as we posted 390 against Pines on the back of brilliant knocks of 159 from James Harker and 88 from Redders. Unfortunately the grand final didn't go to plan with us falling agonisingly short but I was very proud of the whole side at how we fought out till the very end. A special mention goes to Coops, Jack, Hodders, Redders, Talbot, Burgo and Mal Reid for their support this year which has been greatly appreciated in my first year as skipper. All in all this season was a successful year for us with our team only falling 1 wicket short of a premiership and many positives throughout the year. Regards Clint McKneil

FIFTHS

As a shared duty being Captain with Chris Baker it is best described a disappointment to miss finals after the start to the year we had, which was several close losses pre Xmas (check out the A3 Langwarrin V Flinders scorecard, this typified our year) and to lose only 1 game after Xmas with the personnel this side had for majority of the year I thought was a massive effort. Inability to have consistent even spread performances from all members of this side was frequent. We were a good performing bowling side (led the comp in wickets taken) but we struggled with the bat. Paul Morrow excelled with the ball as did at times Jarryd Bartlett and Chris Baker. Cameo appearances from Riley Davie and Josh Bateman showed they both have promise. New arrivals Nick & Luke Olver added some form of team balance. Scott Morrows experience and input was valued all year. We for most of the first half of the year accommodated both Rick Nolde & Barry Coutts in our team add to that the Father & son Ian & Matt McGann who both had played a very limited amount of recent cricket. Both Chris Baker & I stand firm on our opinion on the selection process for lower grade sides such as the 5th 11. The people that need to know have heard us all year and it won't be explained in this format. Thanks for the opportunity. Chris Bartlett.

SIXTHS Just like to start off by thanking the committee for allowing me to captain the 6ths this season. And I would like to congratulate the 2nds & the 3rd on their grand final victories. We had a pretty good year on the field winning 9 of the 11 games to finish on top of the ladder a game clear of second. This brings me to the semi final, played against Mt Martha at Pat Rollo reserve. Lost the toss & they choose to bat, opened the bowling with Ryno & Rick got us off to a steady start picking up 2 wickets early, then they consolidated & we finally bowled them out for 317 with Ryno picking up 5/84, we had 4 over’s to face. Opened up with rob & I put on 35 for the first wicket then all downhill from there with the exception of Chris Aedy going berserk smashing 104 (13 6s & 5 4s) ended up being bowled out for 200 a disappointing way to finish the season .
