    MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

As I look upon 2013–2014, I am so pleased to report to our members the work the Board of Directors and BCIT’s Foundation and Alumni Relations division has done to achieve the goals identifi ed within our strategic plan — to increase alumni engagement and investment with BCIT.

The BCIT Alumni Association (the Association) remains focused and committed to supporting alumni and student success at BCIT. BCIT’s annual investment into the Foundation and Alumni Relations division not only allows the Association to remain strategically linked to BCIT, but also ensures that we can deliver value-added programming and services to our alumni while celebrating their many accomplishments in industries and communities across BC and around the world.

There has been substantial work against many of the key performance indicators (KPIs) identifi ed within each of the strategic pillars, including the implementation of an alumni event funding strategy to ensure that the Association is able to consistently provide funding and support for alumni and student events that are aligned with our goals.

Additionally, the Board of Directors continued our work to advance strategies around Board governance and operational management, building upon previous work to redefi ne our committee structures. Our goal was to better facilitate recruitment and succession management strategies and to ensure alumni had multiple avenues to engage with both the Association and with BCIT.

For me, the most exciting development is the addition of members-at-large to our committees, which I am happy to report are currently operating at full capacity. The addition of these alumni perspectives, outside of the Board, have increased our ability to respond to alumni member needs and wants.

Revenue generation also formed a cornerstone of the Association’s work this past year, including growing our Association revenues by renewing and building upon our relationships with our valued affi nity partners to ensure we can maintain our fundraising commitments in support of student success — all of which is detailed later in this report.

A huge ‘thank you’ to our volunteers, including Board and committees members, those alumni that volunteer at many BCIT events, and of course BCIT staff members. The Association is well positioned to work alongside BCIT to celebrate the achievements of alumni, students, industry partners, business partners, and government as BCIT enters its 50th year next fall.

    JULIA CAMERONPRESIDENT

    MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

This past year was a year of implementation and opportunity as our membership numbers climbed in excess of 155,000+ alumni. However, more signifi cant is the change in our ability to measure our alumni engagement and impact of alumni giving to BCIT as of January 1, 2014.

    > Alumni engagement rose from 5,775 to 13,469, a 133% increase

    > Alumni with current contact information rose from 92,000 to 123,000, a 25% increase

    > Annual alumni donors increased from 110 to 277, a 152% increase over last year

There were key developments for us this past year that fueled this extraordinary jump in alumni engagement and fundraising with BCIT. The implementation of the engagement model and associated alumni matrix worked to better inform the Association on the nature and quality of our relationships with our alumni. However, because of these tools, equally exciting is our ability to properly track and recognize all of the great work and connections that our faculty and staff members have accomplished with alumni and industry. It was an important milestone for us to begin to earn the trust of our faculty. By working to incorporate the unique value and perspective our faculty members bring to relationships with alumni, we can continue to foster and maintain more meaningful relationships with our alumni, faculty and BCIT as whole.

The Association also renewed relationships with one of our longest standing affi nity partners, Bank of Montreal (BMO) MasterCard. We are excited to welcome BMO back and look forward to continue building upon our relationship. The royalties gained from BCIT alumni participation with all of our affi nity partners directly supports alumni programming and events. Additionally, these revenues, along with those of services such as our benefi ts cards, are invested with BCIT as part of our ongoing commitment to support student success. I would be remiss not to acknowledge all of our fantastic affi nity partners: BMO, Canadian Direct Insurance, Dreyer Mortgage Group, and of course, Industrial Alliance — thank you for your support of our Association, our members, and students.

As we look ahead, BCIT’s 50th anniversary is on the horizon. The 50th celebrations are an important opportunity to re-engage and build more meaningful relationships with key alumni like you throughout the Province. For so many, your road to success started with BCIT and we look forward to welcoming you home this fall. Connect with us so we can celebrate BCIT through all of your success in your communities, and your industries, throughout the 50th and beyond!

    REVENUE GENERATION

To provide sustainable and consistent revenue streams to effectively support the mission and objectives of the Alumni Association and also support BCIT in creating a culture of philanthropy amongst students, alumni and the wider community.

    ALUMNI ASSOCIATION AFFINITY PARTNERS

The Association chooses to work with affi nity partners we believe will help the Association and our members achieve our shared goals. The Association also evaluates affi nity partner relationships against our core values. The value-added programming off ered by our affi nity partners, provide alumni like you with a direct service and benefi t, which is one important facet of the equation. However, equally important are the royalties the Association receives by your participation in these services. This ensures that the Association can continue to support student and alumni success at BCIT through our annual donations and sponsorship of student and alumni events. Not only are you helping yourself, you are helping other alumni and students.

The Association is very proud to be associated with our four affi nity partners:

    > BMO Bank of Montreal

    > Canadian Direct Insurance (CDI)

    > Dreyer Group Mortgages

    > Industrial Alliance

Benefi ts and services off ered:

    > BMO BCIT MasterCard

    > Home, Auto and Travel Insurance from CDI

    > Mortgage support from Dreyer

    > Life, Critical Illness and Disability insurance from Industrial Alliance.

We couldn’t support our alumni and students without the amazing support we receive from our affi nity partners. Thank you to all of our partners, on behalf of the Association, for helping us care for the future leaders of our province.

    Alumni Association Sponsors

The Association gratefully acknowledges the support of our sponsors who have helped to deliver another successful event.
