Care and welfare of Persons with Disability Vikash has established its own strategy of community based rehabilitation for persons with disabilities. During this year following activities were undertaken by Vikash under Community Based Rehabilitation at various blocks of Puri, Khorda and Koraput districts of Odisha.

Home Based Therapy services Qualified professionals and Multi-rehab workers provide therapy services to improve the wellbeing of the disabled at the beneficiary home. During the year 2015-16, home based therapy services were provided to 430 CWDs

Centre based therapy services For persons having severe disabilities centre based therapy services were provided along with nursing care, free food and orientation for the guardian. During the year 2015-16, 132 Persons/Children with disabilities availed centre based therapy services. Vikash has started a permanent building for a therapy centre at Ganeswarpur.

Need identification & distribution of Aids and appliances

Vikash, in collaboration with ALIMCO had organized

camp to identify the need of assistive devices for the

persons with disabilities. Followed by needs

assessment 146 aids & appliances were distributed to

identified CWDs and PWD

Referral camps Referral services were provided to 31 CWDs to SCB Medical college & Hospital, SV Nirtar, ALIMCO, AYJNIHH, LV Prasad eye hospital, District Headquarter hospitals those are in need of specialized services like Assessment, Assistive Devices, surgery, Medicines etc. during the year 2014-15

Medicine support Medicine support was provided directly to 32 CWDs and 26 CWDs were arranged medicines through Government hospitals during the year 2015-16; for those are in need of fits medicines on regular basis.

Education support In its endeavor to promote education; tutorial and study material support is provided to 20 needy children with disabilities 84 children with disabilities were integrated to normal schools in the year 2015-16.

Modification of Aids and Appliances To increase the ease of disabled, Vikash had undertaken modification of aids and appliances. During the year 2015-16, 20 standing board modifications and 04 toilet modifications were done by Vikash.

Vikash facilitated 15 PWD associations are conducting periodic meetings and discussing on leveraging Government benefits for the disabled. The table shows the Government benefits arranged for the CWDs and PWDs by the associations.


Annual Sports Annual sports cum cultural events were organized at Vignan Ashram, Kundura of Puri district in the year 2015. 112 CWDs participated in various sporting events and cultural programs which had an aim to encourage the disabled in physical activities.

Exposure Visit An exposure cum educational visit was organized for 44 CWDs in the month of January’2015 to Nandankanan Zoo at Bhubaneswar. The CWDs were impressed by the nature’s symphony and by the exquisite touch of the wilderness there.

Rehabilitation of Mentally ill People with mental illness are one of the most neglected sections of the society. Vikash developed a community model where people with mental illness and are moving on the streets were given shelter and treatment. During the year 2015-16, Vikash had identified 750 PWMI at Puri district and arranged the following Government services.

Strengthening of MAS (Mahila Arogya Samithi) in slum areas of Bhubaneswar. To provide better health services to slum dwellers Vikash organized awareness & capacity building activities for the members of MAS regarding their core activities related to health. Involving all the community members Vikash enhance the knowledge on essential health services like enrollment & registration of adolescent girls under SABALA scheme & use of iron & folic acid by the pregnant women etc with an aim to sensitize the slum dwellers on health, sanitation, nutrition and health practices.

Quality and Equitable Education for all Vikash continued its campaign for Quality and Equitable education for all the children to ignite the spirit of Right to Education.

Pre-schooling- Providing education to the children under preschool period with using different methodology like singing & dancing is very important to enhance their interest for going to school in later age.

World Mental Health Day

On 10th October 2015, Vikash in collaboration with Bhinnakshyam Mahasangh had observed the World Mental Health Day at Bhubaneswar. During this program the issues of mentally health were put forward with the appropriate authorities and dance therapy was given to the participants

Health

Malaria eradication Vikash had organized 12 awareness cum sensitization programs at various slums of Bhubaneswar on Malaria eradication for the slum dwellers & distribute mosquito net during the year 2015-16.

Health camps Vikash had conducted 16 nos of health camps for the tribals and 7 health camps for livestock maintained by tribal for arranging health care services, medicines and vaccination of livestock at Narayanpatna & pottangi block in the year 2015-2016.

Vikash facilitated running two pre-schools in Koraput and Puri district. These schools help the children learn for getting socialize, get along with other children, learn numbers, shapes, alphabets etc. The students at the schools were involved in extracurricular activities like physical exercise, music, yoga, singing, dance etc. apart from regular teaching.

Livelihood NRM based livelihood options provide sustainable livelihoods for the poor household. Vikash Undertakes promotion of NRM based livelihood for the marginalized communities like indigenous communities & farmers in OTELP project in Narayanpatna block of Koraput District.

Poultry Unit Modern poultry units were constructed and dedicated at 10 Villages to benefit 40 poor tribals for providing sustainable livelihood. Training on chick rearing and poultry management was provided to 30 members from 6 SHGs Narayanpatna block of Koraput.

Smokeless Chula for tribal HH

208 smokeless chulla provided to the rural households for reducing the consumption of fuel wood & time for cooking. In other side in health point of view it is very much useful.

Water Filter

In the block of Narayanpatna the people depend on river and stream water for their consumption purpose. In the year 2015-16 Vikash provided 95 nos.of water filter mobilized from different sources.

Grocery units

Diversion based irrigation:- It is a kind of irrigation which is very cost effective & the farmer use the system without any cost. Only to check the stream water & flow the water by the alleviation is the main technology of this system of irrigation. Viaksh in the block of Narayan Patna facilitate to construct two numbers of DBI structure for irrigation & domestic purpose.

Small lift pump:- In the hilly area like Narayan Patna Block irrigation system is not well equipped. So Vikash facilitated To provide 5nos of small lift pumps to 5 nos of VDC for enhancement of production & productivity.

Construction of Drying Yards Under the program construction of drying yard is one of the major activities for the farmers as a development of community infrastructure. Vikash had constructed 4 drying yards to help the village farmers in drying their agriculture products at Tentulipadar, Balipeta, Ichhapur, Gumandi and Rangapani villages. In addition to drying the agri-products, the village community is also using these drying yards for Village level meetings and functions.

Village Development Committees formation & Strengthening Vikash has formed and strengthened Village Development Committee (VDC) and Watershed Associations for involving village members in developmental activities. During 2015-16, 8 watershed associations were formed, 86 training programs were conducted for 14 VDCs on Planning, designing, implementation, Problem solving, book keeping and governance at Narayanpatna Block of Koraput district.

Vikash recognized the market potentiality of the grocery units in hilly tribal areas and provided support of Grocery units for 5 tribal families at Narayanpatna Block of Koraput district for increasing their income status. Poultry Unit


Agricultural equipments:- Vikash provided agricultural equipments to 25House holds for enhance their income through agriculture based livelihood.

SHG formation and strengthening 38 SHGs comprising 386 members were formed and strengthened during the year 2015-16. Exposure visits were organized for the SHG members to various blocks of Koraput district on Broom Making, Vegetable Cultivation, NTFP collection, Artisan development etc.

Skill building training programs Vikash facilitated & organized skill building training program for its stake holder to enhance their income level for eradication of poverty. Skill building training programs were organized on various agricultural and income generation activities for 668 beneficiaries during 2015-16 at Narayanpatna block of Koraput district.

Micro Credit The cooperatives facilitated by Vikash and independently managed by the members organize credit for the members and groups. The credits are given primarily for business. Besides, credit is extended during critical periods.

Habitat

Sanitation A workshop was conducted at Nimapara of Puri district to create awareness among the local public and students with regard to water and sanitation Sanitation drives were organized through citizens groups to sensitize the communities and local authorities about the importance of sanitation at Konark & Nimpara NAC. Two rallies were organized in Konark and Nimapara NACs for increasing awareness on WATSAN program.

Bio-medical waste disposal Vikash is managing the Bio-medical waste management program of 152 bedded hospitals at NALCO, Damanjodi in Koraput district.

Construction of Tube well platform During the year 2015-16, 5 no’s of tube well platforms were constructed at Narayanpatna block of Koraput and 6 no’s in Bargarh block of Bargarh district.


Construction of Bathing step and changing room Vikash took up constructing bathing step and ladies dress changing room to keep the surroundings clean and tidy. In the year 2015-16, Vikash constructed 12 numbers of hi-tech model ladies changing room and bathing steps with low cost technology in Bargarh block of Bargarh district. Sensitization programs were also organized in 16 villages to maintain proper sanitation at the surroundings of the pond and improve their social life style.

Construction of Village Mandap (Community meeting platform) Vikash had constructed 3 community meeting platforms at tribal villages of Narayanpatna Block of Koraput district to provide a place for village meetings and for various cultural events of the village. Good Governance Good governance is important for strengthening the local self government for meaningful participation of the citizen in a democratic form of government. In the same filed Vikash proved a meaningful contribution to strengthen the urban governance with civil society initiatives in Konark of Puri District. The following programs were undertaken by Vikash in support of National India Foundation (NFI).

Organized workshop on vision mapping A vision mapping workshop for Konark NAC was organized by Vikash on dated 8th January 2016 in collaboration with Lok Samukhya in PWD Bunglow for all round development of the Konark with existing potentials available. Vikash collected data for vision mapping of Konark NAC from various stake holders like PKDA, Konark NAC, Water resource department & archeological survey of india.The objective was the workshop is vision building of Konark NAC in next 5yaers. Panel discussion was organized on this topic to familiarize & promote the same among the Representatives, Civil society actors & intellectuals. In the workshop some of the issues were emerged on which Vikash formed a core group for preparing an action plan for addressing the issues in long run.

Sanitation plan for Nolia Basti in Chandra Bhaga Village

Vikash has developed a sanitation plan for Chandrabhaga Village to clean the coastal area of Chandrabhaga. In this process Vikash collected the primary data & organizing meeting among the villagers for using of toilet & convince the villagers for their contribution for the same like labour & the cost of maintenance


Awareness & campaign for sanitation & involving youth in good governance. Vikash always believes in involving youth to change society towards development. As sanitation is a very important issue in recent era of time, it is very natural we can address the issues only when we can able to manage our governance system effectively. So to say for any kind of development good governance is the wheel of change. Youth awareness was conducted during the Konark festival on cultural heritage & its protection.

Exposure program for counselors to Dilwara Exposure programme for the Chairman and 10 Councilors

was organized by Vikash to Dilwara for enhance the knowledge of participants on Decentralization of Urban Governance, Urban Planning & Development, Urban Challenges & Urban Poverty management, Resource Mobilization.

Launching of a website www.mycity1.com Vikash launched a website named, www.mycity1.com for highlighting various aspects of urban governance, emerging issues, Government initiatives for empowerment of urban bodies and latest developments of Konark NAC. Maintenance of Information centre. Vikash maintains a City Resource cum information Center at Konark NAC to provide information on developmental issues & activities of Konark. Local public, youth, social activists, media personnel, women activists, community leaders, tourists etc. had visited the Resource Centre and interacted on development of Konark NAC.

IEC Material preparation and dissemination Vikash is continuing to develop information materials based on the issues & developmental activities published in various news papers. The basic objective of the IEC material is to enhance the knowledge of the readers on ongoing issues & developmental activities. These communication materials were disseminated during various trainings, workshops, meetings and individual interactions of the staff with stakeholders.

Publication of bulletin To strengthening the governance system in Konark NAC Vikash continues the activities to publish “Sahar Samachar” an annual bulletin reflecting voices of people and public representatives on transparency in governance and grievance. The bulletin was disseminated to elected representatives, NAC officials, media reporters and opinion leaders.

Research and Development Design and development of rice transplanter In field of Research & development Vikash has proved its potentiality by developing a four row rice transplanter which is very essential needs of the farmers for seedling more areas in a short span of time. In the year of 2015-2016, Vikash has able to train another 75nos of farmers to adopt the technology.
