Pyramid Healthcare continues to expand residential services in response to the growing need for treatment programs to combat the opiate epidemic in the United States.

Since July 2016, expansions have occurred at the Duncansville, Pittsburgh and Langhorne facilities, resulting in an additional 78 beds available for those seeking residential treatment services in Pennsylvania.

In addition, Pyramid Healthcare opened Silver Ridge in February 2017. Silver Ridge is a 15-bed residential program specializing in treatment for midlife to older adults. The program is located on an 11-acre estate near Asheville, North Carolina.

The expansion of residential services will continue over the next year, with the expected completion of three large development projects.

In response to the continued need for additional residential services, Pyramid Healthcare will develop two programs in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Pyramid Healthcare will open a 100-bed residential program in Dallas, PA, which is located in Luzerne County, right outside of Wilkes-Barre. Renovations have begun on the program’s site, a 35,000 square foot former Wyoming Valley Hospital building. The program will provide detox and rehabilitation services for men and women. The Dallas program will open in early 2018.

The second project based in northeastern Pennsylvania is the development of a 47-bed residential program in Catasauqua, PA. Known as Lehigh Valley Inpatient, this facility will provide detox and rehabilitation services for men and women in the Lehigh Valley area. Previously, individuals in the area who needed inpatient treatment would have to travel to another Pyramid Healthcare facility. Now, they can receive the required level of care closer to home.

Another Year of Expansion

Pyramid Healthcare reached an agreement to lease the campus in Catasauqua that previously operated a residential program. Minor renovations will be completed and the program will reopen in the fall of 2017.

“We have long served the treatment needs of Lehigh County with other facilities outside the area, and are pleased to be able to bring our residential rehabilitation services directly into Lehigh County with the opening of this facility,” stated Jonathan Wolf, CEO of Pyramid Healthcare. “This complements our growing treatment network in Lehigh County, which includes our outpatient office that we have operated for a number of years in Allentown.”

The third project is the development of Pyramid Healthcare’s first residential program in the state of New Jersey. Hammonton Inpatient will be a 100-bed residential program located in Hammonton, New Jersey. Pyramid Healthcare acquired the former Kessler Hospital building in Hammonton, New Jersey and will begin renovations of the 40,000 square foot space in late summer of 2017. The program is located between Philadelphia and Atlantic City, and will provide detox and rehabilitation services for residents of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. This project is particularly exciting as there is a significant shortage of residential services in New Jersey, and Hammonton Inpatient will become the anchor facility of future inpatient and outpatient development throughout the state. Pyramid Hammonton will open in the spring of 2018.

Through these extensive development projects, Pyramid Healthcare will offer 247 additional residential beds for detoxification and rehabilitation services, increasing the number of beds system-wide to over 1,000.

In 2016, Pyramid Healthcare was named one of 26 Centers of Excellence for opioid treatment in Pennsylvania.

As a result of this designation and grant, the Altoona Outpatient and Dolminis Methadone programs received grant money to increase access and care coordination for individuals seeking treatment for opiate addiction.

Each client is assigned a CRS Care Manager or a Nurse Navigator to provide support, coordination and advocacy as the individual begins their recovery journey. Led by Center of Excellence Coordinator Maria Bradley, Pyramid Healthcare has assembled a team of Certified Recovery Specialists and Nurse Navigators, expanded intake and physician availability to include weekends to ensure access to treatment, and trained

Pyramid healthcare Named Center of Excellencethe call center staff to provide potential clients in Blair County with immediate support when calling.

The goals of the Centers of Excellence are to improve access and enroll at least 300 new persons in treatment in the first year, and to provide support that enables those persons to stay in treatment for 12-24 months.

During the first six months of the program, Pyramid Healthcare’s Center of Excellence enrolled 232 new clients in treatment for opiate addiction in Blair County. In addition, they reduced time from initial call to starting treatment from 9 days in January to 2.2 days in June.

Full outcomes will be reported at the end of 2017 after completion of the first year of the Center of Excellence initiative.

On July 20th and 21st, 2017, Pyramid Healthcare hosted Recovery 360: An Integrated Behavioral Healthcare Conference at the Sheraton Society Hill Hotel in Philadelphia, PA.

Over 300 psychologists, nurses, doctors, licensed mental health counselors, drug and alcohol counselors, social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, and other industry leaders and stakeholders from across the country were in attendance for this inaugural event. Thirty-one external behavioral health organizations supported Pyramid Healthcare’s Recovery 360 conference as exhibitors and sponsors.

Over the course of two days, participants attended two keynote presentations and were offered fifteen additional seminars covering a wide range of behavioral health topics, for a total of 10 continuing education credits.

Dr. Jonathan Harris, Ph.D., of the Caron Foundation presented as the first keynote

speaker. Dr. Harris detailed the application of neurofeedback as an adjunctive therapy in a residential addiction treatment environment. Also presenting as a keynote speaker was Jonathan Wolf, CEO of Pyramid Healthcare. Mr. Wolf explored the approach of continuum-based behavioral health treatment and examined the impact that this approach to treatment has on the individual, family and community. In his presentation, Mr. Wolf outlined how the ground-breaking approaches in substance abuse and mental health treatment implemented throughout Pyramid Healthcare’s matrix of care increase treatment engagement, retention and likelihood of long-term recovery.

The event received high marks, ratings and reviews from conference attendees. Next year’s conference is scheduled for July 18-20, 2018 and will again take place at the Sheraton Society Hill Hotel in Philadelphia, PA.

In 2017, Pyramid Healthcare was selected by the Carbon, Monroe, Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission to expand services into the underserved area of Pike County, Pennsylvania.

The organization determined that a facility in the town of Hawley, located on picturesque Lake Wallenpaupack, would best serve Pike County residents - and Pyramid Healthcare couldn’t be happier with the reception they have received from local stakeholders! Pyramid Healthcare’s application to the Palmyra Township Zoning Commission was uncontested by local residents and since, residents have been calling to access services within the Pyramid Healthcare continuum.

Soaring Heights School has provided specialized education to students with autism and emotional support needs for more than ten years.

In late 2017, two new schools will open in Altoona and Chambersburg, in addition to existing locations in Clearfield, DuBois, State College, and York. Both schools will provide education and behavioral guidance to students ages 5 – 21.

Watching the education process at Soaring Heights School is an amazing experience. Our well-trained and passionate teachers use a variety of techniques to engage students in the learning process; there are sensory rooms to allow students time outside of the classroom; and each student works at his/her own pace.

In addition to providing a strong academic

and behavioral program with very low student-to-teacher ratios, Soaring Heights School also provides a variety of evidence-based support programs for the students. All students have access to positive schoolwide support and trauma-focused care, and middle and high school students can receive drug and alcohol awareness education as part of the emotional support program.

Soaring Heights School also serves as a community resource, offering evening community education presentations on a variety of topics related to autism and developmental disorders.

As the new school year approaches, the expansion of Soaring Heights School will allow us to introduce these specialized services to new communities.

co-occurring mental health disorders. A new gymnasium will be added to the campus to allow more recreational activities as well as large group assemblies on campus.

The Duncansville facility remains Pyramid’s largest inpatient rehabilitation program, providing more than 200 non-hospital detox, short term, and long term rehab beds. The facility is located in close proximity to our comprehensive outpatient/Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) services as well as three halfway houses. The availability of the entire continuum of care in the region ensures that persons have easy access to coordinated long term support and treatment after completing the inpatient program.

Duncansville Facility Enhances Access and Treatment with Additional Programs

In response to the increasing intensity of the opiate crisis and shortage of rehab beds in Pennsylvania, the Duncansville facility undertook an expansion project in 2016, resulting in a larger and more comprehensive facility. Two additional buildings housing new adult men’s and women’s units were added to the campus and opened to accept residents in July 2017.

In addition to the new buildings, the Duncansville professional team took the opportunity to revise and enhance the treatment program and schedule. New programming specialties to support the life enhancement goals of the residents include trauma/PTSD, chronic pain coping skills, nutrition/healthy lifestyles, and

On July 1st, 2017, Pyramid Healthcare announced the acquisition of Tapestry Eating Disorder Treatment Centers of Western North Carolina.

Founded in 2006, Tapestry, under the direction of Executive Director and founder Tina Nowak, has established itself as one of the premier residential eating disorder programs in the southeastern United States. Tapestry has differentiated itself from other providers in the eating disorder treatment market by providing individualized treatment programming for clients in a boutique, homelike environment.

The acquisition of Tapestry is yet another step forward for Pyramid Healthcare in developing a complete and comprehensive network of services

within the behavioral health continuum. With Tapestry, Pyramid Healthcare can now serve women with primary eating disorder diagnoses seeking residential treatment.

Tapestry is scheduled to open an adolescent residential program in Fletcher, NC in October 2017 that will serve male and female adolescents who need residential treatment for primary eating disorder diagnoses.

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness and today approximately 24 million Americans struggle with these disorders. The acquisition of Tapestry is a significant step for Pyramid Healthcare in helping these clients achieve recovery and move towards a healthy lifestyle.

In 2016 the Seeds of Hope footprint expanded from one to four locations, now covering Southeastern Pennsylvania with offices in Exton on the Main Line, Center City Philadelphia, Lancaster, and Bethlehem in the Lehigh Valley. therapeutic milieu for approximately three to six months. During that time, they will attend college classes, participate in on-site job placements/internships, and learn the life skills needed to transition to independent living once they complete Waypointe. Situated in beautiful Hunterdon County, New Jersey, these young men will have access to boundless recreational opportunities, while also just a short ride away from the cultural centers of New York City and Philadelphia.

As an outgrowth of our existing, successful adult psychiatric programs, the Waypointe model is designed to efficiently grow and expand to our other programs throughout New Jersey.
