    FCS trains students to be Christian Leaders for Life

    using these Expected Student Outcomes

    as goals for every student.

    s you look through this annual report from FCS, our staff is engaged in serious preparation for reaccreditation which culminates in a visit from our accrediting association in the spring of 2019. Accreditation being the primary method of accountability for a school that seeks to aspires to high standards, we are making every effort to assess what, who, and where we are as a school, and then put in place the systems and programs that help us meet and exceed those standards. Done right, it is a long, arduous, comprehensive task. It’s a good thing it only happens every 5 years.

    When I see the amount of work going into this accreditation, I am encouraged by the attention to detail given by our staff, administrators, board members, and even students and parents who are all involved in

    the effort. Every standard has a rubric, and every rubric has a set of indicators that grades its comparison to the standard. Every nut and bolt of the machinery that is FCS is inspected and considered as to its worthiness to help us comply with the essence of our Core Purpose Statement: Glorifying God by Education with Excellence.

    As if this gargantuan accreditation effort were not gratifying enough for us to be a part of, we get to see it completed in an arena quite unique to Fredericksburg Christian School. I’m referring to the relationship-rich environment of FCS. For most of you who have spent time in the hallways of our school, you know that the atmosphere that God created here 39 years ago through the hearts of our founders, Gary and Andy Foss, still exists today. The hallways look different and the original 35 students are now parents of college students, but the ethos of excellence, held together by relationship, is still flourishing here.

    So, as you view this annual report (essentially FCS’ own report card) and thank the Lord for the blessings we are experiencing with facilities, finances, academics, athletics, and enrollment, thank Him as well not just for all of the very hard work that made them possible, but also for context of God-honoring relationships that permeated that hard work through which it was carried out. If you’re reading this, you have most likely been a part of what makes FCS who we are today…and for that, we thank you.

    While the largest population comes from Spotsylvania County, 11 counties are represented at FCS. Many families travel more than 20 miles to partner with the school. Enrollment records have remained steady, other than a slight drop in 2017-2018 due to the closing of the Stafford Campus. Enrollment numbers do vary slightly throughout the year, partly due to a military population and transfers that occur.

    March 29, 2018, FCS families, friends and committed donors came together to the Foss Christian Education Center, at the FCS Upper School Campus, to celebrate this valiant campaign and publicly reveal the success of the Capital Campaign. Instead of making the announcement, Drs. Keith and Keri Izadi called on the assistance of several FCS Lower School students to make the grand presentation of the amount raised in the campaign! At the campaign celebration dinner, the students revealed on that night that we had raised $2,050,101 and had exceeded the $2,030,000 goal (To date, we have raised a total of $2,081,704)

    Members of the Literary Club and their advisor, Mrs. Sizemore, choose and edit submissions of poetry, fiction, and art from students in the Upper School. They publish these in the annual Literary Journal: Searching Syllables that is available for purchase on lulu.com. The members of the Literary Club come from the Creative Writing class, a Fine Arts elective.

    TerraNova standardized tests are annually administered at FCS in grades 1-11 to ensure a quality program by comparing itself to local and national scores. Scores are used to evaluate the strengths and areas of improvement for subjects, grade levels, and students. The Total Score for FCS is consistently above the National and Southeast Region.

    Similarly, the combined 2017 SAT score of FCS students was above Virginia and national students.
