ANNUAL REPORT 2018
bestprepInspire. Educate. Connect.
About Us
Our Mission: BestPrep prepares students with business, career, and financial literacy skills through hands-on experiences that inspire success in work and life.
BestPrep envisions a community in which every Minnesota student is college-prepared, work-ready, and career-bound. Our programs provide students with:
Business Skills: BestPrep equips students with business skills that help them achieve success personally and professionally. Practicing interviews, learning how to be a leader, and developing a personal brand are skills that all students can use in their future careers.
Financial Literacy: BestPrep ensures that students can make sound money management decisions and take control of their financial future. Participating in stock market simulations, learning how to create a budget, and understanding credit and taxes gives students a real-world perspective on becoming financially capable.
Career Exploration: BestPrep empowers youth to envision life after high school and understand steps they can take to prepare for success. Students are introduced to careers through in-class presentations, email mentors, and workplace tours that highlight career fields and paths.
Who We Serve:
We believe all Minnesota students benefit from experiential learning that supplements regular classroom curriculum.
Our programs are available to students in grades 4 – 12. An estimated 43% of students served come from low-income backgrounds.
BestPrep understands the importance of accessibility and, through the support of our donors, we offer all programs at low or no cost to students, teachers, and schools.
Dear Friends,We are delighted to share BestPrep’s 2017-2018 Annual Report with you. It was another busy year with some terrific results. Below are a few of the highlights:
BestPrep launched its seventh program, Cloud Coach. With a goal to reach full 9th grades at the 14 largest Minneapolis and St. Paul public schools, the Cloud Coach program strives to improve graduation rates and assist students with career direction through online mentoring.
BestPrep was honored to have former Associate Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, Alan Page, as keynote speaker at its 2017 Educational Forum. Doug Baker, CEO of Ecolab, joined Justice Page for the onstage dialogue. The highlight of the evening was Keelenah Yang, St. Paul Como Park Senior High School student, presenting her award-winning essay, “Tomorrow’s Leaders... Why Character Matters.”
We were delighted to announce that BestPrep entered into a partnership with the University of St. Thomas’ Opus College of Business and the Schulze School of Entrepreneurship to host our Minnesota Business Venture and Technology Integration Workshop programs on their St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses beginning in the summer of 2019.
There are many more memorable moments BestPrep has accomplished this year. We encourage you to read the following pages to get a picture of the extensive activity involving our students, teachers, and volunteers.
Thank you for supporting our efforts in preparing students with the business, career, and financial literacy skills that inspire success in work and life.
Best Regards,

We were proud to honor the great work of BestPrep’s teachers, volunteers, and sponsors whose involvement is integral to our ability in helping Minnesota’s students be college prepared, work ready, and career bound. The event was highlighted by a keynote address from Kate Mortenson, President & CEO of the 2019 Minneapolis Final Four® Local Organizing Committee. Her message focused on showcasing the plan for the Minneapolis Final Four® and the positive impact it will have on our community.
Each year, one individual is selected to receive the Bunzel Volunteer of the Year award for going above and beyond in their drive to provide educational opportunities to Minnesota students.
