Dear Parents and Community Members: We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2018-2019 educa-tional progress for the Davison Community School district and our

schools. The AER addresses the complex re-porting information required by federal and some requirements of state laws. Our staff is available to help you understand this infor-mation. Please contact Michelle Edwards, Di-rector of Public Information for help if you need assistance. The Davison AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site http://bit.ly/2G9r9wT, or you may review a copy in the main office at your child’s school. Each

school will also be communicating their own AER to parents direct-ly. The report contains the following information: Student Assessment Data − Includes the following four assess-

ments: M-STEP (Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress),

College Board PSAT, MI-Access (Alternate Assessment) and Col-

lege Board SAT. This report section presents assessment infor-

mation for English language arts and mathematics for grades 3 to

8 and 11, and science for grades 4, 7, and 11, compared to state

averages for all students as well as subgroups of students. The

report helps users to understand achievement performance within

grades and schools, and to make comparisons to district, state,

and national achievement benchmarks.

Accountability —Detail Data and Status The accountability portion of the AER includes assessment profi-ciency and participation rates, graduation or attendance rates, as well as accountability index values showing school performance on a 0-100 scale. Teacher Qualification Data

Identifies the number and percentage of inexperienced teach-ers, principals and other school leaders.

Reports teachers who are teaching with emergency or provi-sional credentials.

Includes teachers who are not teaching in the subject or field for which they are certified.

NAEP Data (National Assessment of Educational Progress

Provides state results of the national assessment in mathematics and reading every other year in grades 4 and 8

Civil Rights Data

Provides information on school quality, climate and safety Review the table below listing our schools. For the 2018-19 school year, schools were identified using

definitions and labels as required in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). A Targeted Support and

Improvement (TSI) school is one that has at least one underperforming student subgroup. An Additional

Targeted Support (ATS) school is one that has a student subgroup performing at the same level as the

lowest 5% of all schools in the state. A Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) school is one

whose performance is in the lowest 5% of all schools in the state or has a graduation rate at or below

67%. Some schools are not identified with any of these labels. In these cases, no status label is given.

Our District continues to work toward fulfilling Board of Education goals. The three goals of the Board of Education are as follows: Goal 1 Instructional Goal: All students will achieve academic success through quality instruction and support.

District Accreditation

Accreditation Status In May 2019, Davison Community Schools was awarded renewal of District Accreditation as a quality school system by the AdvancED Accreditation. Davison was one of the first school districts across the state to complete this process for district accreditation in 2009. An External Review Team from Ad-vancED visited to evaluate the district on :

Leadership Capacity

Learning Capacity

Resource Capacity During their visit, AdvancED team members interviewed stakeholders, including school staff, board of education members, parents, students and community members and conducted effective learning envi-ronment observations. The district met and exceeded all 11 expectations set forth in the Leadership Capacity Standards. In the Learning Capacity domain, the district met and exceeded expectations in 8 out of 12 standards, was rated as “emerging” in three of the standards and “needs improvement” in one area. In the Resource Capacity Domain, the district met or exceeded expectations in all but one of the eight standards. One area was deemed as “needs improvement.” Evaluators also noted the following: “Stakeholders at all levels of the system demonstrate a culture of respect, support and commit-ment to the system mission “Where Kids Come First and Futures Begin.” The Cardinal Code is embedded in the system and school culture and is well understood by external stakeholders in-cluding businesses and educational partners. Participants in all stakeholder groups refer to the school system and their peers as family.” Accreditation is a process that has to be renewed every five years.

Process for Assigning Pupils to School

The District is a “schools of choice” district in that there are no set school building boundaries with-in the district. Any child living within Davison school boundaries can attend any school within the district at the student’s grade level. Davison Community Schools also participates in the state of Michigan’s 105 and 105c Schools of Choice programs, which provides students living outside district boundaries opportunities to attend Davison.

The Status of the 3-5 year School Improvement Plan: In 2019, Davison Community Schools was awarded renewal of District Accreditation as a quality school

system by the AdvancED Accreditation. Davison was one of the first school districts across the state to

complete this rigorous process in 2009. Accreditation is a process that has to be renewed every five

years.
