YEARYouth of the

Alex Acosta joined the Club in third grade. From self-confidence to

academics, all parts of Acosta’s life were dramatically improved by the Club.

“Nothing grows a person more than surrounding yourself around true friends

who actually care about you,” Acosta said. “I grew to be a confident kid and turned all my

flaws into strengths.”

Acosta says he has big dreams, which include attending either UNC-Chapel Hill or an Ivy

League university to become a pediatrician. “And I know I can do that with the Club behind

me,” Acosta states. “I am a product of the Club, and without the Club I wouldn’t be the person I am

today. That’s why I am so thankful for the Boys and Girls Club.”

Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys and Girls Club member can receive. The title recognizes a

member’s leadership, character and service, academic excellence, and healthy lifestyle. As the Boys & Girls Club Corporate Champion, Hunter Subaru provided

$1,000 in college aid to Alex for his collegiate pursuits.
