Dear Friends,

This annual report recognizes the many hundreds of people who make it possible for the Sun Valley Center to serve the Wood River Valley so successfully. From donors to volunteers, the lists are impressive and the participation is indeed widespread. We give sincere thanks to each person who helped us in the past year. I wish it were also feasible to thank by name the thousands of people who attended our programs. Many people have spoken to me about how much they appreciate what The Center contributes to their lives and to the lives of their families. The Center strives to bring major talent in the form of speakers, artists, and entertainers to our small community in Idaho. But local residents tell me that the most important thing The Center does is provide a sense of community and create opportunities to gather and share unforgettable arts experiences with family and friends.

“The Center is indispensible to our town,” explained a friend. “You guys really do it all.” Of course I was honored and pleased to hear this endorsement of The Center’s work, but her comments made me realize that the reverse is also true. “It’s the people of this community are that indispensible,” I observed. “Without you there would be no Center.”

You see, it is people who create the interest, the audiences, the participation and the demand for the diversity of our work. Without the hundreds of volunteers, donors, the board of directors and the advisory board, and certainly without the professional staff, The Center would be just a business, instead of an essential part of the fabric of this community.

Our gratitude and thanks go to each of you who make The Center what it is. YOU play a vital role in shaping the activities and the programs we offer. Thank you for your continued support!

Work with the schoolsThe Center has a long history of working together with local schools to enrich our valley’s children. Administrators and teachers of subjects as varied as Science, Languages and History say we are vital to the education of the whole child. Fiscal year 2009 was a wonderful success with participation by students from each of the Blaine County public schools, as well as Bigwood Preschool & Kindergarten, The Community School, Pioneer Montessori, The Sage School, Stepping Stone and families who homeschool their children.
