RECYCLING PROGRAMS

ILACSD’s Recycling Programs team helped San Diego County residents do much more than recycle throughout 2018. WasteFreeSD.org, the Recycling Programs database and call center, served as a one-stop, zero waste resource informing residents of how to properly repair, reuse, donate, recycle, or dispose of items that would otherwise end up in landlls. In addition to its work with WasteFreeSD.org, the Recycling Programs team encouraged zero waste living through outreach booths that handed out reusable items to replace single-use plastics - helping community members reduce waste by implementing eco-friendly habits into daily routines.

EDUCATION PROGRAMSIn 2018, through classroom presentations, zero waste business and community workshops, and after-school programs, ILACSD educators

empowered more than 40,000 youth and adults with knowledge about their impact on the

environment. ILACSD’s education team left lasting impressions on students and community members alike,

as they emphasized the importance of zero waste habits with lessons on avoiding single-use items, protecting local watersheds, and more.

“You have educated literally thousands of my students over the years. You support my lessons and help change attitudes and behaviors. You all at ILACSD have really stepped up your game in the last few years. From straight lecture to including activities, discussions, and solutions, it has been great to see the presentations evolve.” – Todd Linke, Teacher, Mt. Miguel High School

COMMUNITY PROGRAMSILACSD has long served the region as a catalyst for environmental action, and 2018 was no exception. The Community Programs team continued its work inspiring and empowering volunteers to care for our beaches, canyons, waterways and urban spaces. With more than 280 community cleanups and programs like Storm Drain Stenciling and Adopt-A-Beach, the Community Programs team created ample opportunity for volunteers to put passion into action in 2018. Through these eorts, the team worked to encourage stewardship, energize cleanup eorts, and beautify San Diego County for a lasting impact on our region.

Over 1,000 students, teachers, and volunteers

made waves of change for the ocean at the 2018

Kids’ Ocean Day.

ILACSD turns 65 in 2019, and invites you to celebrate this landmark year with an evening cruise on Mission Bay! Enjoy an evening of delicious

food, entertainment, auctions, and more — all aboard the elegant William D. Evans sternwheeler departing from the Bahia Resort Hotel — to benet ILACSD’s eorts toward a clean and beautiful San Diego.

On the Horizon for ILACSDJoin us in celebrating 65 years of love for a clean San Diego! That’s right, 2019 marks ILACSD’s 65th year of educating and inspiring our community toward a waste free and environmentally engaged San Diego County. As the new Executive Director, I look forward to working with all of you who have helped ILACSD lead and inspire San Diegans over the years. With your volunteerism and nancial support, ILACSD continues to achieve and exceed its goals and remains committed to further expanding our countywide volunteer opportunities, educational resources, and recycling programs.

As we look back on 65 years in San Diego County, now is the perfect time to remember our past, act now, and plan for our future. Our region has changed a lot since 1954, and because of supporters like you, I know ILACSD will continue growing and evolving to engage our community in meeting the environmental challenges of tomorrow. Our mission wouldn’t be possible without you, and on behalf of our Board of Directors and sta, I would like to thank you – our volunteers, our donors and our friends – for your continued support. I am excited to see what more we can accomplish together!
