ANNUALREPORT
Rebuilding Together DC • Alexandria 700 Princess Street, Suite 206, Alexandria, VA 22314
Housing plays such an important role in ensuring the health and sustainability of the region’s households and communities. When individuals and families have access to safe, affordable housing in safe, healthy surroundings, they put down roots, which then enhances community stability and fosters more socially, culturally, and economically diverse neighborhoods throughout our area.
Rebuilding Together DC • Alexandria achieves greater well-being by bringing volunteers and resources together to revitalize communities and improve the homes and lives of low-income residents, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, veterans and families with children.
Our Mission and Programs
REPAIRING HOMES. REVITALIZING COMMUNITIES.
Rebuilding Together DC • Alexandria Annual Report FY2019 2
REBUILDING LIVES.
REPAIRING HOMES.
REVITALIZING COMMUNITIES.
Our Mission and Programs CONTINUED
We serve the needs of limited income residents through these programs:
The Safe and Healthy Homes program provides free home repairs to stabilize 25 items that the National Center for Healthy Housing found to drastically improve living conditions for a home’s residents. Our volunteers and contractors work year round to ensure that homes have operable smoke/CO detectors, proper ventilation, working fire extinguishers, etc.
The Community Strong program improves community spaces used by thousands of residents living in limited income neighborhoods. From community parks and gardens to senior centers and homeless shelters, we renovate these critical neighborhood facilities.
Safe at Home, a DC Department of Aging and Community Living program, helps older adults and people with disabilities reduce the risk of falls in their homes. Through Safe at Home, DC residents earning 100% Area Median Income (AMI) and below are served with accessibility modifications.
Through A Home of Your Own, we acquire properties, renovate them using volunteers and skilled tradespeople, and sell
the units to low- and moderate-income,
first-time homebuyers with greatly subsidized
funding. In partnership with the Alexandria Office of Housing, we have provided affordable homes to more than 30 families.
