University Games Committee
2012-2013 Introduction:
AMU has a rich and glorious tradition of sports and has produced a number
of International, National and State level players in various games.
After assuming charge as the New Vice-Chancellor Lt. Gen (Retd)
Zameeruddin Shah paid special attention to Games and Sports so that the
glorious past can be restored.
With the keen interest the Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor and
Registrar, a number of Infrastructure projects like Hockey Astro Turf and
Indoor Badminton Hall were completed. The AMU also won three North Zone
Intervarsity Tournaments in 2012-13 namely Cricket (Men), Badminton
(Women) & Tennis intervarsity (Men) as well as All India Tennis Intervarsity
(Men). With the help and patronage of the Vice-Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd)
Zameeruddin Shah new infrastructure projects like a 30 Horse Stable for
Riding Club, Indoor Shooting Range (Air Rifle / Air Pistol) and nine hole Golf
Course has been prepared and submitted to the HRD Ministry and University
Grants Commission.
The Vice Chancellor has also initiated scheme for giving cash prizes to
sportsperson winning state level tournaments ( Ten Thousand for 1st
Prize, Five Thousand for 2nd Prize and Three Thousand for 3rd Prize). The
University is now poised to make strong strides in the field of sports in the
near future.

Important Events and Achievements
1. Construction of Hockey Astroturf costing 4.10 Crore has been completed and will be
inaugurated by Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India very soon.
With the facility of Hockey Astroturf, AMU will become an important Centre of
Hockey in Uttar Pradesh and many prestigious tournaments will be organized in future.
The Installation of Hockey Astroturf is an important addition to sports infrastructure of
the university and will help in revival of Hockey in a big way. AMU is also be one of the
prospective venues for the universities Hockey championship to be started on the lines of
the Toyota Universities Cricket Championship.
2. Indoor badminton hall has been constructed at cost of 60 Lacs. It was inaugurated by
Shri Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for HRD, Government of India on 6th April 2013.
3. Proposal for construction of Indoor Shooting Range at a cost of 4.10 crore and
construction of Riding Club stables costing 5.62 Crore has been submitted to UGC
/HRD. These will be important additions to existing Sports infrastructure.
4. 14 New Basketball and Volleyball courts have been constructed in the University at a
cost of 90 Lacs. These courts have been constructed in each hall of residence so that
facilities for games and sports are available at doorsteps for students.
5. AMU won the All India as well North Zone Intervarsity Tennis (Men) tournament held
at Dr. BRA NIT Jalandhar from 24th January to 6th February 2013 after a gap of 39

years. The players of the team were Chandril Sood, Lakshit Sood, Saim Farooqui,
Mohammad Nasir and Fawad Naqvi.
6. AMU won the North Zone Intervarsity Cricket (Men) tournament held from 20th
November to 9th December 2012. AMU Cricket team also qualified for All India
Intervarsity Tournament and inaugural Toyota Universities Cricket Championship
sponsored by NDTV and Ministry of HRD.
7. AMU won the North Zone Intervarsity Badminton (Women) tournament for the first
time in history of Games and Sports of AMU. The tournament was held at MDU
Rohtak in December 2012. Sara Naqvi was adjudged the “Best player of the
tournament”. Sara Naqvi also represented India in Korean Junior Badminton
championship held at Seoul, South Korea.
8. AMU Riding team participated in National Equestrian Championship and Delhi Horse
Show in March/April 2013 and Talha Anees won bronze Medal in Tent Pegging.
9. Mr. Wakeeluddin, Captain, Hiking and Mountaineering Club won the Gold Medal in
Advance Mountaineering Climbing Competition conducted by Himalayan
Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling. He also got “best student of the course” award
(Basic Skiing course-21) & Excelled in Langlauf and Slalom competition organized by
Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports at Gulmarg (J&K) and secured 1st
Position.

10. AMU Wrestling team participated in All India Intervarsity Wrestling competition held
at Amrawati University (Maharashtra) in November 2012. Adesh Yadav won Silver
Medal in 84 Kgs category and Subodh Yadav won Bronze Medal in 96 Kgs category.
11. AMU Lawn Tennis (Women) participated in North Zone Intervarsity Tennis
tournament held at DCR University, Sonepat for the first time in the history of AMU.
12. Half Marathon Race was organized by Hiking and Mountaineering Club on 27.01.2013
on the occasion of Republic day celebrations. 400 students including girl students
participated in the race.
13. AMU Riding Club Organized 124th Annual Horse Show “EQUESTRIA 2013” on 08th
March 2013, and a large number of distinguished guests graced the occasion. Mathura
N.C.C. Riding Team and other teams also participated in various events.
14. AMU Visually Challenged Cricket team representing UP participated in National
Cricket Tournament for the Visually Challenged at Karoli (Rajasthan) organized by
Dirshtiheen Kirera Parishad in February 2013 and won the championship.
15. AMU Football team participated in Khawaja Garib Nawaz Memorial Invitational
Football Tournament held at Khawaja Garib Nawaz Stadium, Ghazipur and won the
championship in February/March 2013.
16. AMU Hockey team participated in Krishak Samaj, UP State Hockey Tournament, held
at Gola (Kheri) in February/March 2013 and reached the semifinals.

17. Two member of Hockey Club namely Tariq Mohammad (Representing Nagaland State) &
Mohammad Akaram (Representing Tripura State) were selected for Senior National Hockey
Championship held at Bangalore (Karnataka).
18. One members of AMU Gymnasium Club, Mr. Deepak Sharma secured 1st Place in 90
Kgs category in All India Body Building Competition (Arjun Shree of India) held at
Aligarh Industrial Exhibition in Feb 2013.
19. AMU men teams participated in intervarsity tournaments in Cricket, Football,
Wrestling, Powerlifting, Weightlifting, Body Building, Badminton, Basketball,
Volleyball, Table Tennis, Hockey, Swimming and Tennis.
20. AMU (Women) teams participated in Intervarsity tournaments in Cricket, Badminton,
Basketball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, and Tennis.
21. Interhall tournaments were organized in Cricket, Football, Roller Skating, Wrestling,
Powerlifting, Weightlifting, Body Building, Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Table
Tennis, Hockey, Swimming, and Tennis.
22. Cash Prizes were given by Vice-Chancellor, AMU to members of Tennis (Men),
Badminton (Women), Wrestling (Men) and Hiking Club members for outstanding
achievements.

Tennis Club
2012-2013
1 AMU won the All India as well North Zone Intervarsity Tennis (Men)
tournament held at Dr. BRA NIT Jalandhar from 24th January to 6th
February 2013 after a gap of 39 years. The players of the team were
Chandril Sood, Lakshit Sood, Saim Farooqui, Mohammad Nasir and Fawad
Naqvi.
2 An exhibition Tennis match was held at AMU Tennis courts on 27.12.2012
in which AMU Alumni and noted actor Mr. Naseeruddin Shah participated.
3 The club organized Inter Hall Tennis Tournament from 11th to 13th March
2013. Teams from various halls participated in the competitions. NRSC
team won the championship after defeating V.M. Hall in final team.
4 The summer coaching camp for students of Schools and Colleges of
Aligarh District was organized by AMU Tennis Club, from 8th June 2012
to 20th June 2012. Students including females’ students took part in
this coaching camp. The Certificates distribution function was held on
27.06.2012.
5 The winter coaching camp for students of Schools and Colleges of Aligarh
District was organized by AMU Tennis Club, from 23.10.2012 to
10.11.2012. 54 students including females’ students took part in this

Badminton
2012-13
1. For the first time in the history of AMU, Badminton team (Women)
performed par excellence and won North Zone Intervarsity Badminton
tournament by beating Delhi University 2-0 in final match. First single
played between Sara Naqvi (AMU) Vs Nidhi Tiwari (DU), Sara Naqvi beat
Nidhi Tiwari by 21-09, 21-16. In the doubles match Sara & Kanwaljeet
(AMU) beat Nidhi & Ruchi (DU) by 17-21, 21-13, 21-12. Ms. Sara Naqvi
(AMU) was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
2. AMU Badminton (Men & Women) team participated in North Zone
Intervarsity (M& W) badminton tournament 2012-13 organized by MDU
Rohtak in November 2013. Mr. Chandan Kumar, Mr. Mohd Belal, Mr.
Rasheed Misbah Ansari, Mr. Manjay Yadav, Mr. Saif Warsi, Mr. Prabhat
Yadav, Ms. Sara Naqvi, Ms. Kanwal Jeet Kaur, Ms. Saloni Yadav, Ms.
Naureen Hira represented AMU in North Zone Intervarsity Badminton
Tournament.
3. In the men’s section AMU Badminton team performed well and lost in the
quarter final against MDU Rohtak (Host University) by 2-3
4. The AMU Badminton (Women) team displayed fighting spirit in All India
Intervarsity tournament 2012-13. AMU Beat Nagpur University by 2-0 in first
round. In the quarter final AMU lost the match against Jain University Bangalore
in a tough match by 1-2.
5. Indoor Badminton Hall having two courts was inaugurated by Mr. Jitin
Prasasda Minister of State, HRD, Govt. of India. The Hall has been
constructed at cost of 60 lacs.

Selected for World Universities 2012-2013 for giving best performance during
North Zone/All India Intervarsity by winning all the matches.
Represented Junior Indian Badminton team in Korea Open International
Badminton Championship at Seoul, Korea and reached up to quarter final.
Selected in U-19 Indian badminton team for Hungry Jr. International
Badminton tournament
Participated in Tata Open International Badminton tournament at Mumbai
Participated in Syed Modi Memorial International Badminton tournament held
at Lucknow
National Level
Bronze Medal in All India U-19 Badminton Tournament in Cochin 2012
Third place in Junior National Championship at Chandigarh
Third place in All India U-19 Badminton Tournament at Hyderabad

Cricket Club
2012-13 1. AMU won the North Zone Intervarsity Cricket (Men) tournament defeating
Jamia Millia Islamia in the final by record margin of 388 runs.
2. AMU Cricket team also qualified & participated for All India Intervarsity
Tournament held at Manipal (Karnataka)
3. AMU Cricket team qualified & participated in the inaugural Toyota
Universities Cricket Championship in association with NDTV, Ministry of
HRD and BCCI.
4. Eight Players of AMU Cricket team were selected for the North Zone team
for Vizzy Trophy Cricket tournament held at Calcutta in Feb 2013
organized by BCCI.
5. Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Ex-Captain AMU represented UP in the Ranji Trophy
for the 5th consecutive year, and North Zone for Deodhar Trophy and
Mushtaq Ali trophy. He was the highest wicket taker for UP in this season
with 37 wickets. In the light of this performance, he was also selected in
Chennai Super Kings team to play in IPL 6.

7. The AMU Women’s Cricket Team participated in the North Zone

8. The AMU Cricket Club won the All India Sheikh Mazahir Warsi Memorial
Cricket Tournament Bijnor in October 2012.
9. The Cricket Club, AMU organized the Summer Coaching Camp for school
boys of Aligarh District in which more than 310 aspirants participated in
the trials, out of which 60 were selected for camp.

10. Mr. Meraj Ahmad, member of AMU Cricket team was selected as
Captain and Mr. Faisal Sherwani, AMU Cricket Coach was selected as
Coach for the North Zone team for Vizzy Trophy Cricket tournament held
at Calcutta in Feb 2013 organized by BCCI.
11. AMU Visually Challenged Cricket team representing UP participated in
National Cricket Tournament for the Visually Challenged at Karoli
(Rajasthan) organized by Dirshtiheen Kirera Parishad in February 2013
and won the championship.
12. The Cricket Club organized the Inter Hall Cricket Tournament from
15th to 23rd March 2013. NRSC defeated SS Hall (South) in the finals.

Wrestling Club
2012-2013
23. AMU Wrestling team participated in All India Intervarsity Wrestling
competition held at Amrawati University (Maharashtra) in November
2012. Adesh Yadav won Silver Medal in 84 Kgs category and Subodh
Yadav won Bronze Medal in 96 Kgs category. This is big achievement in
the university sports and these medals were secured after several
decades.
24. Inter Hall Wrestling Competition was held 04.04.2013. Students from
various Halls participated in the Inter hall tournaments.

Hiking & Mountaineering Club
2012-2013
26. Mr. Wakeeluddin, Captain, Hiking and Mountaineering Club won the
Gold Medal in Advance Mountaineering Climbing Competition conducted
by Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling. He also got “best
student of the course” award (Basic Skiing course-21) & Excelled in
Langlauf and Slalom competition organized by Jawahar Institute of
Mountaineering & Winter Sports at Gulmarg (J&K) and secured 1st
Position.
27. The Club organized (10 Kms for Men and 05 Kms for Boys/Girls)
“National Integration Marathon Race” on the occasion of Republic day
Celebrations on 27.01.2013, in which more than 600 students
participated. A large number of Female students also participated in the
marathon race.
1. Mr. Abdullah Khan was sent to participate in Basic Mountaineering course
at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Mountaineering Institute and Allied Sports, Manali
(HP) from 29.09.2012 to 20.010.2012 and secured “A” Grade.
2. 22 students were sent for Adventure Mountaineering Course from 14th to
22nd December 2012 at Dehradun / Sahastradhara (Uttrakhand).
3. 20 students were sent for Adventure Mountaineering Course from 04th to
09th March 2013 at Dehradun / Sahastradhara (Uttrakhand).

28. Mr. Wakeeluddin and Mr. Gulam Jeelani were sent to participate in
Basic Skiing Course organized by Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering &
Winter Sports at Gulmarg (J&K) from 02.02.2013 to 20.02.2013.
Skating Club
2012-2013
1. Waseem Rehman, Mohd Shadab, Atif Hasan, Ahmad Kamal Baig, Mohd Yaqzan,
Mohd Harris, Saadullah Khan, Mohd Umar Arif, Ashab Ahmad, Mohd Areeb,
Adeeb Anwar Mustafa, Santosh GM, Tarukh Mohsin, Ifham Ahmad were selected
in UP team for participation in 50th National Roller Skating Championship held at
Belgaum from 25th January to 03rd February 2013.
2. Inter Hall Roller Hockey tournament was held from 22nd to 24th February
2013. Roller Hockey teams of various halls participated in Inter Hall Roller
Hockey Tournament. NRSC Hall was Winner, and SS (N) Hall team
Runner’s Up & SS (S) was third in the Championship. In Inter School
Open Roller Hockey tournament the 1st Place was secured by ST Singh
School, 2nd Place secured by Our Lady of Fatima and 3rd Place secured by
Al-Barkaat Public School. Students of various halls and Schools also
participated in various skating events i.e. Rink Race-1, Rink Race-2.
3. Organized summer and Winter Coaching Camps for University students
and school boys.

2012-2013
1 AMU Table Tennis team participated in North Zone Intervarsity Table Tennis
Tournament 2012-13 organized by Jamia Millia Islamia, New Dehli in the month
of December 2012.
2 Mr. Faisal Ali won 2nd State Ranking Junior Table Tennis tournament held at
Bareilly organized by UP Table Tennis Association.
3 Mr. S. Turab Ali secured 3rd Place in State ranking youth Table Tennis
Tournament at Lucknow.
4 The Inter Hall Table Tennis Tournament was held from 4th to 6th March 2013.
Nadeem Tarrin Hall & R.M. Hall were Winner & Runner’s Up respectively. Mr.
Faisal Ali won the Open Championship and S. Turab Ali of was Runner’s up.

Riding Club
2012-2013
29. AMU Riding Club Organized 124th Annual Horse Show “EQUESTRIA
2013” on 08th March 2013. Riding teams from NCC Mathura and Ayesha
Tarrin School also participated in various events. The occasion was graced
by a large number of distinguished guests.
30. A team of 8 riders including the captain participated in National
Equestrian Championship (NEC) held at Gurgaon during 10-15 March
2013.
31. MU Riding team also participated in Delhi Horse Show 2013 organized
by Army Polo and Riding Club (APRC) during 24th March -8th April 2013.
Mr. Talha Anees won the bronze medal in Confined Tent Pegging Event.
32. Zainus Salikin Siddiqui and S. Anwar H. Mashhadi was selected for
Horse Riding Combined Annual Training Camp (1 UP R&V SQN NCC) held
in Lucknow in November 2012.

33. The Club conducted its Annual Riding Exam on 30.04.2013. Twenty
five riders (boys & girls) successfully passed the exam and were awarded
the Horsemanship Certificate.

Physical Culture Club
2012-2013
1) In the being of the session a yearly calendar was prepared with the help
of Coach, Captain and senior students and displayed in Gymnasium to
provide students prior information of all the programmes.
2) Training programmes like” Annual training” “Monthly training” have been
prepared for individual members of the gym for whole year and displayed
at the board to inform all the members about “Physical Motor Ability
Training” schedule.
3) A unique software has been developed to solve the problems of individual

evaluated and the report is provided to all the members.
6) To stop the entry of outsiders and anti-social elements a software has
been prepared through which all the members have their registration with
their BIO-DATA & Photograph. Attendance is recorded for a particular
day. A print of monthly attendance is provided to all the members.
7) Monthly performance award has been introduced to encourage discipline
and interest towards exercise among the students. At the end of the

evaluation facility has been put in place.
10) With additional three hours the timing of Gymnasium Club has been
increased from 4 hours to 7 hours daily.

2012-2013
1. Basketball club organized summer coaching camp for schools of Aligarh
District from June 2nd to 18th 2012. In which 30 students participated
from various schools in this camp. The closing ceremony of trainee camp
was held on 18 June 2012.
2. Four AMU players were selected for the District Junior Basketball team
which participated in Junior Basketball tournament (under 19) held at
Lucknow from 2nd to 6th May 2012 and secured 5th place.
3. Three of our players were selected for the District Basketball Team which
participated in sub Junior State Basketball tournament (under 16th) held
in Jaunpur, UP. Among them, Mr. Abhiudaya Yadav of class XI has been
selected in UP State Basket Ball team.
4. The University Basket Ball team participated in North Zone interuniversity
basketball tournament held at CSJM University Kanpur from 3rd to 7th
February 2012.
5. AMU basketball (Women) team participated in North Zone basketball
tournament held at Sonipat (Haryana).
6. The Basketball team also participated in UP State basketball tournament
held at Varanasi from 15th to 21st November and was pool winner and lost
in quarter final.

1. Hockey Astro turf costing 4.10 Crore has been installed and the North Zone Hockey
Intervarsity 2013-14 will be played on the Astroturf with the commissioning of the Hockey
Astroturf, AMU will become an important Centre for hockey in North India.
2. The AMU Hockey team went to Kurukshetra University to participate in North Zone Inter
University Hockey Tournament. The team beat HPU Shimla & lost to MDU Rohtak in the
Pre-quarter final.
3. The Hockey Team went to Gola on 19.12.2012 to participate in Krishak Samaj UP State
Hockey Tournament after beating three teams the team lost in the Semi Final. The
performance of the boys was satisfactory.
4. Two member of Hockey Club namely Tariq Mohammad (Representing Nagaland State) &
Mohammad Akaram (Representing Tripura State) were selected for Senior National Hockey
championship held at Bangalore (Karnataka).

final was played between NRSC and MM Hall. The NRSC team won the Final
Match by 3-0.
2. An Invitation Tournament was organized in which 8 teams took part. The AMU
Student Club won the final against Aligarh Sports Stadium Team by 2-0.
3. Organized the Invitational Inter School Football Tournament for Boys in which
16 teams from different schools of the city participated. Al-Barkaat and AMU
SSSC School team reached the final; which was won by the Al-Barkaat by 2-1
margin.
4. The Football club helped in the organization of the tournament / friendly

Final to JMI, New Delhi by 2-1.
7. Our team won the State Level Football Tournament organized by Khwaja Garib
Nawaz Trust at Ghazipur.
8. Our team participated in S. A. Rahim Memorial Football Tournament 2013 at
