On behalf of the Board of Directors of YWCA Lethbridge and District, thank you for your commitment to and support of our organization.

It’s such a pleasure to be a part of serving the YWCA movement, the oldest and largest women’s multi-service organization in Canada. We celebrated our 70th anniversary on June 5th this year! That’s 70 years of an organization built by our community to support our women and girls. It is a testament to you and to our community that we are here celebrating this landmark.

This past year we embarked on creating a new strategic plan for the organization and are excited to have a new guiding document in place. This plan will guide us into the future as we look forward to continuing to build relationships and allies in our community and to be a support to our community’s women and girls.

I want to acknowledge the deep appreciation felt by the Board for every person who has touched the YWCA, as an employee, donor, sponsor, volunteer, or combination of them all. Your contribution is felt and appreciated. Last year’s Board Co-Chair’s shared the Hellen Keller quote “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much”. These words ring true for us here at the YWCA, together we stand 70 years strong in our community and look forward to the growth and opportunities the next 70 will bring.

YWCA Lethbridge & District:A Place for ALL Women

YWCA Lethbridge & District has been serving Lethbridge and the surrounding communities since 1949. The organization supports the enhancement of women’s lives and the communities they live in with 30+ programs and services that fall under one of five areas of focus:

Domestic & Sexual Violence, which includes YWCA Harbour House Women’s Emergency Shelter and YWCA Amethyst Project, which provides trauma-informed support to women, men and children who have experienced sexual violence.

Trauma & Crisis Prevention/Intervention, including Safe Visitation and Project Recovery, a support group

for children ages 6 to 17 who have experienced trauma.

YWCA Lethbridge & District is part of the global YWCA movement, which has worked for over a century to achieve justice, peace, human dignity, freedom and a sustainable environment for all people. Imagine Canada-certified, YWCA Lethbridge is open to women of all ages, cultures and beliefs and is committed to the value of every human being.

Poverty, Housing & Homelessness, which covers support for women transitioning out of Harbour House and Hestia Homes, a program that teaches independent living skills for youth ages 19 to 24 who are (or are at risk of becoming) homeless.

Leadership & Empowerment, including GirlSpace, our youth conferences, and the Young Women’s Leadership Council.

Advocacy & Awareness – we are the voice for the social and economic well-being of women with government, the media and the community at large.

A WOMAN’S PERSPECTIVE

Women must be leaders in shaping social and cultural

directions in order to achieve equity and equality for all

women.

DIFFERENCE & DIVERSITYIn order to achieve social and

other forms of justice, we must embrace difference and

diversity among people.

COMMUNITY MINDEDNESS

Healthy communities, free from violence, racism and

other abuses of power, nurture the whole person. Individuals committed to

equity advance the growth of healthy communities.

GLOBAL INTERDEPENDENCE

The worldwide struggle for equity and equality connects
