Discipline

Having merged with Counseling more than a year ago, the school in theory has no

discipline team, and it has been able to cultivate good characters in students without

one, in the absence of a demerit system.

The rationales for not having a demerit system are

• Forgiveness and acceptance by the school

• Self reflection and self discipline on the part of all students

“I would be true, for there are those who trust me”

“I would be pure, for there are those who care”

Number of discipline cases

• Bullying 7

• Cheating 3

• Plagiarism 6

• Truancy 2

• Theft 9

learning a language,

and demonstrated

some resistance in

 The heavy reliance

on parent and

alumni helpers could

be better

coordinated.

 Efforts will continue

to incorporate

speaking practices

into students’ daily

life.

Inside school

School-based student service

opportunities included but were not

limited to the following:

 School Prefects

 Peer Councilors

 Christian Fellowship

 English Ambassadors, Reading

Ambassadors, I.T. Ambassadors

 CCTV crew

 Career Talks for parents and

students

 Swimming Gala

 Speech Day

 By serving, students

learnt leadership and

organization skills.

They also learnt about

their roles in the

society as a

responsible citizen.

 A school culture of

“ The stronger helping

the weaker” was

reinforced. Students

also extended their

helping hands to reach

 St. John’s Cathedral Walkathon.

[All supported in principle the need to

serve.]

[Attendance ranged from 78-100%.]

[Teachers’ evaluation of the programs

varied from acceptable to excellent.]

frequently feeling the absolute

importance of the latter and thus too

easily sacrificing the former. ~40%

to evade service obligations.]

out to their primary-

school counterparts in

the HK East

neighborhood.

 ~ 20% students did

not appear to fully

understand the true

meaning of service.

Efforts would be

stepped up to convey

the joy and

significance of

helping others, as

opposed to the

testimonial evidence

of services rendered.

 With ~ 12% students

having emerged as

being good to

outstanding in serving

others, they should be

given a leadership role

in next year’s service

activities.

 Better coordination

among different

bodies would be

beneficial. It is

recommended that an

overall supervisory

unit be formed to

explore, plan and

coordinate service

programs of different

natures and for

different levels and

abilities.

 Staff development

would be enhanced to

galvanize support and

involvement.

 Time management

skills training would

have to be reinforced.

 Award incentives

could help.

Major Concern Three: Motivation

Achievements & Areas for

Improvement

Honor rolls

Prizes &

scholarships

 Entries for honors, awards and

scholarships were up 30-40% from

the previous year.

 Several external awards were won

the first time in the school history.

 The number of external scholarships

won was up ~35%.

 All honored

would be shared

among all staff

and students, and

credit given to all,

instead of

diverting the

glamour on the

winners alone.

This would

nurture an even

stronger sense of

belonging to the

school.

 Winners would

play a bigger role

in guiding their

peers who attempt

to obtain similar

honors.

Mentorship

schemes

 After School Homework Supervision

supply, and students with no adults

at home after school hours were

given priority.]

~20% participants, which gradually

vanished.]

[Average attendance ~ 90%]

 Summer work habit development

[~5% parents expressed closer

academic work supervision than

effort in good work habit

development.]

Core subjects tutorials (for the junior

forms)

tutorials to other subjects

improvement in

attitudes, exam

performance and

relationship with

parents / teachers.

 There was

enormous

difficulty in

recruiting tutors,

helpers and

mentors. A bigger

budget for this

effect could offer

some relief.

 Closer teacher-

student and

parent-student

relationships were

established in

these programs.

students and teacher mentors]

Whole-person

growth

the following:

[Enthusiastic response from students,

parents and staff]

[All stakeholders were in full support

of the tours, as well as pre- and post-

tour tasks and activities.]

 Leadership development and training

camps

[Attendance 100%]

[External Trainers feedback -

positive, plenty of potentials in the

school, could be stepped up]

 Personal development workshops

 Extra-Curricular Activities

[Student feedback: confidence

boosted]

 Community service opportunities

[Major Concern Two]

 Life education: stress management

program, guidance service, Form

teacher periods

[Form Teachers’ feedback: time

limitation, material resources & peer

collaboration could be enhanced]

[Social worker feedback: very

positive parent support]

 Sharing by

students after the

overseas tours

was positive and

inspiring. There

could be a

financial element

standing in the

way of sustaining

the tours.

 Students who won

travel scholarship

must learn to be

grateful, and must

realize that they

won not only

because they were

good, but also

because of all the

fund-raising work

and trip

preparation work

the teachers had

done, and the

support of the

donors.

 Leadership

training was

mainly for elected

or appointed

student leaders

and students in the

senior forms, and

could be extended

to include junios

students.

 Form teacher

periods could be

better organized

for this purpose.

 Attendance and

participation

improved with

better scheduling

of programs to

Parents
