ORGANISING COMMITTEE
2
Welcome to Perak. It is the first time the College is holding its annual scientific congress in Ipoh, the “Land of Tin” with the largest deposits of the metal in the world and Ipoh has much to offer.
2018 is an opportune time to come to Perak because the size of our Annual Congress is such that not many venues outside the Klang valley can accommodate us. We are pleased to announce that having surveyed this Aman Jaya Convention Centre, we have found it suitable. As it is a new venue, we hope you will find the facilities and arrangements pleasant.
There is much to take note off in the ever changing world of surgery. New technology, especially the connectivity of the internet has the potential to change the way we do things. Refinements in how we plan and organize surgery for patients, such as ERAS and day care surgery, should stimulate us to relook at our practice. Sometimes, cases in the news involving doctors cause us to think not only of our science and skills but also of non-technical matters. We want our profession to progress incisively but also in a balanced way and the Organising Committee thought the age old motto of ‘first do no harm’ Primum Non Nocere is still the theme that befits the Congress.
For the College of Surgeons, Malaysia, our international connections have always been a much treasured asset. This year we very warmly welcome the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Australasia, as well as the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka as partners for our meeting. They have helped to bring for us an outstanding faculty of surgeons who are experts in areas which are important today. The Organising Committee hopes our meeting will facilitate collaboration in all the areas we have similar interests in, training, organization and even scientific. To all our overseas guests we wish you a very warm welcome and express our sincere thanks for putting our meeting on your priority list and coming here.
We hope, besides the surgical programme and fellowship which we believe you will find interesting, that Perak will have a wonderful place in your memory in the future. Ipoh city has its charm, but surrounding it, Perak has also much to offer. Pangkor Island has rustic beauty. The caves at Gua Tempurong have ancient majesty. Taiping has Lake Gardens and hills that are supremely serene. Kuala Kangsar has a river and palace that are magical. They are all within reach of a short journey of Ipoh and we hope that not only our overseas friends, but our local delegates will not forget the beautiful places in Perak. We are too busy inside hospital buildings too often. I hope this weekend and the days before and after offer everyone at the Congress a chance to experience not only something new and profound, for you, in surgery but also about Perak.
Our President, has family roots, time in school and working life here in Perak and if he is not too busy I think he would love to tell you about Perak. Same goes for me.
Lim Kean Ghee

You are kindly invited to submit scientific contributions to be presented during the meeting. As an alternative to the traditional printed paper poster, the CSAMM is pleased to introduce e-posters to the Annual Scientific Meeting 2018. E-posters will replace the printed posters and we are sure that you will share our enthusiasm for this innovative approach to poster presentation. As you will have uploaded your poster in advance there is no need to print and carry a poster to the meeting. This will save you the time and costs associated with printing and reduce the carbon footprint of the meeting. There will be monitors at the conference where all posters can be viewed.
Abstracts may only be submitted using the electronic abstract submission system and must meet the following criteria:
• The abstract must not exceed 300 words• Abstracts must be written in English, explained abbreviations may be used• Graphs and Tables are not allowed
All Abstracts must follow the required structure:• Introduction• Objectives• Materials and methods• Results• Discussion• Conclusions
Successful entrants will be emailed instructions on how to upload their e-posters for presentation after 10th April 2018. Your e-poster should be produced using the PowerPoint Poster template which will be provided. The content of the presentation should be of a single slide. E-Posters of different dimensions may be skewed/stretched/truncated when displayed on the monitors at the Annual Scientific Congress unless they conform to the template.
A maximum of ten E-posters adjudged to be of sufficient merit will be eligible for the top three prizes.
