This plant is necessary for larvae development. However, the leaves and seed pods

are potentially toxic for children and adults. Here’s what Wikipedia has said,

“The plant's latex contains large quantities of glycosides, making the leaves and seed

pods toxic for sheep and other large mammals, and potentially humans (though large

quantities of the foul-tasting parts).

Cool Weather Crops To be planted indoors in March and April

* If you plant your seeds too early in the spring then you end up with fragile, leggy seedlings that do not

transplant well.

Plant Lighting Time to

germinate

Time spent

Indoors

before the

last frost

Helpful Hints

Celery Sun. 6- 10 days. 10-12 weeks. When they are 6 inches tall, harden them off

and transplant them to the garden. Keep the

soil moist throughout the growing season and

fertilize plants with compost tea every 2 weeks.

Celery requires 80 to 140 days to reach harvest.

Broccoli

Sun/part

shade.

5 -10 days. 8 weeks. Transplant the seedlings into the garden when

they are about 6 inches tall, with two to four

leaves, not earlier than 2 to 3 weeks before the

last frost. Broccoli grows best in cool, moist

conditions. Broccoli will be ready for harvest 50

to 60 days after transplanting to the garden.

Cauliflower

Sun. 5 -10 days. 8 weeks. Seedlings can be transplanted into the garden

about 2 to 3 weeks before the last frost.

Cauliflower will be ready for harvest 45 to 70

days.

Cabbage

Primo

Sun/part

shade.

5 -10 days. 8 weeks. The seedlings are ready for transplanting when

they have 5 or 6 leaves (18in) apart. Cabbage

will be ready for harvest 40 to 90 days after

transplanting to the garden. Mid- and late-

season varieties can be either direct-seeded in

midsummer or started indoors.

Lettuce

Sun. 5 -10 days. 8 weeks. Plant 3 seeds per compartment but only let one

plant survive. Cut the plant with scissors to

avoid disturbing the roots of the good plant.

This plant does not like overcrowding. Seedling

needs to be rotated when placed in the sun.

Begin sowing lettuce again in midsummer for a

fall harvest that can continue until the first

frost.

Pansies

Sun /part

shade.

6-10 days. 14 weeks. Once seedlings have 3-4 leaves, transplant them

to individual pots and move them into bright

light. For a longer blooming season they should

be planted in a cool place and not permitted to

dry out from the hot sun.
