From the Pastor’s Desk
We don’t see Jesus walking around with us in the same way as He did before
his ascension, but His presence is with us. Jesus is embodied in the Church and acts
powerfully through the Church, and Jesus is present to us in a special way in the sacra-
ment of the Eucharist. We have not been left alone. Jesus calls us to keep His word, to
trust that His going away is not the end, to believe that in the Eucharist He comes to make
His dwelling with us. Jesus has also sent the presence of the Holy Spirit to dwell with us.
In many ways we don’t fully understand, this powerful presence of God is at work in our
lives and in our community. Openness to engaging with that presence, openness to believ-
ing and following the words of Jesus, openness to the power of God working in our lives -
all of this brings us blessings and peace in life and opens our eyes to that mysterious pres-
ence of the Spirit in our world.
I have received a quote for the code improvements to the former Regan Street
convent so that we can put it into use. To answer those who have asked of how this might
be used - here are some of the ideas: Religious education space, meeting space for parish
groups (allowing expansion of these), space for various ministries to operate from and
grow, a library with print materials and computer resources for those wishing to explore
their faith, possible connection to the Pastoral Counseling Center of Central Mass to oper-
ate a site to bring counseling services sensitive to those of faith to Gardner, a health clinic,
a home school collaborative program operating in conjunction with Holy Family Academy,
space for smaller parish functions, a place from which to operate day retreats, and a center
for increased parish social activities. I also have been in contact with the contractor for the
handicap access project - we have sent payment for the initial design work and are await-
ing plans and their proposed budget predictions.
We had Finance Council this week and discussed many issues related to our
continued responsible use of our finances. We have begun the budgeting process for next
fiscal year, and all department heads will be submitting their proposed budget to Bill in
June so that Finance Council can get the proposed budget at the June meeting. July will
be for revisions, and we will be ready to adopt the final budget at the August meeting (our
fiscal year begins in September).
This week we will be hosting the Gardener High Baccalaureate again. Since the
school has decided to end support (the only activity in four years of High School where
students are presented with some spiritual reflection), parents, students, and faith leaders
in the city have picked it up. If you are able to attend, you are welcome. It will be in Holy
Rosary on Tuesday at 7:00pm. Readings for reflection from various spiritual traditions, an
inspirational address, and wonderful musical selections will be offered. Also please note
that this Friday is the Golf Classic to support Holy Family Academy. If you would like to
play golf for a good cause please see the information in the bulletin and contact Eileen
O’Shea for more information.
Another wonderful piece of information is that our Acolyte Mick Beck will be
ordained a Deacon on June 1st. The Ordination Mass begins at 10:00 am at the Cathedral
in Worcester. Congratulations to Mick! I am looking forward to him joining the ranks of the
Deacons in our Parish and beginning ministry as a Deacon in our community. Fr. Ramos
announced that he is being transferred to John Paul II Parish in Southbridge. I am sure
everyone is sad to see him move on. We wish him the best and will be having a reception
next month to give him a proper send-off. I will write about his replacement in the next
column. God continues to bless us.
Annunciation Parish Mission Statement:
Strengthened by the Eucharist, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and sent by Christ we seek by worship and service to compassionately
meet the corporal and spiritual needs of our parish family and beyond. We desire to warmly welcome the stranger and one another, and
together reach a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. In doing this, we are committed to the caring and ongoing Christian formation of
others by providing opportunities for spiritual, intellectual, and social growth within our faith and local community.
For those who are new to the parish or returning after some time away, we would like to welcome you to our
Catholic community. In this bulletin you will find many opportunities to be enriched and involved. If you would
like to register as a member or have any questions, call us at 978-632-0253, email us at
[email protected], or stop by the Parish Office during the week.
Peace,
Fr. Steve
