“The LORD is king. He has made the world firm, not to be moved;

he governs the peoples with equity.” Psalm 96:10

Dear Parents, Today we welcomed Father Etheredge, principal of Aurora Central Catholic, as our all-school Mass celebrant. Father reminded our students that this Sunday marks the start of Advent and that we can get ready to celebrate the arrival of The Light of the World Jesus Christ by committing to more prayer and good works for the next four weeks. We have many events planned for our school community to put us into the spirit of Advent.

• This Saturday, December 1 is our annual Christmas tree lighting

ceremony and chili dinner following the 5:15pm Mass. Our parish

Junior Choir will be performing and the Knights of Columbus will be serving chili.

• The short, gloomy days of winter are already upon us and the cold weather

makes us long for warmth. As we prepare for Jesus’ birth to light our

world, we are introducing a schoolwide Advent service project called

Watts of Love. Watts of Love is a 501(c)3 organization based in Downers

Grove, IL that provides solar lights to people throughout the world living

without electricity. Of the 1.1 billion people living without electricity, most

rely on dangerous toxic and expensive kerosene as their primary source of

light. With a $50 donation, Watts of Love can provide one solar light to a

family which provides HOPE – Health. Opportunity. Power. Education -

and $1,000 can furnish an entire village with solar lights. Each class will have a

container such as this to fill with spare change from home or perhaps change from a

chore that our students complete. Our goal is to raise $50 per classroom in order –

that’s a total of $500 enough to light HALF a village! The winning class from each

building will have donuts and juice treat. We will be updating our progress

throughout Advent – start bringing in your coins TOMORROW☺ For more

information on Watts of Love visit www.wattsoflove.org .

• The annual schoolwide TOY DRIVE will be on Wednesday, December 12. If

possible, we ask that each student bring a new, unwrapped toy/game to be presented at

the all-school Mass. These toys will be delivered to Toys For Tots.

• Our annual junior high Advent service project will also be held on Wednesday,

December 12. Each year our 6th, 7th and 8th graders go out into the community to serve

others at Toys For Tots, Feed My Starving Children, and Marklund.

• Information about our school Christmas programs Thursday 12/20 and Friday 12/21

can be found in this newsletter.

• Finally, TOMORROW your oldest child will bring home an Advent gift for

your family. Father Patrick is always telling our students to live with JOY –

Jesus, Others, then You so I thought that this Advent activity book was very

fitting. I hope you can take some time each day of December to share in the

discussion or activity in the book with your child(ren).

Sincerely,

Mrs. Jennifer Wardynski

As you begin shopping for Christmas bargains, please keep in mind that Annunciation School will be holding a toy collection on December 12th. Each child will bring an unwrapped toy to the altar during the all-school Mass that day. The toys will be donated to Toys for Tots. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s time to start practicing those Christmas carols! If any student would like to play a sing-a-long Christmas carol on the piano or another instrument between acts of the Christmas programs, please contact Mrs. Brouch with the name of the song you would like to play. Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHRISTMAS GIFT PROGRAM

‘Twas weeks before ChristmasAnd all through the school

Not a teacher gift had been bought,What would the parents do?

The artwork was hung,In the hallways with care,In hopes that the parentsAnd faculty would stare.

The children were studying,Struggling to stay awake,While anxiously waiting

For a long Christmas break.

The parents were lookingTo spread Christmas cheer

And thank teachers and staffWho in their hearts they held dear.

So I ran into schoolWith letters in hand

Requesting donationsBut never making demands.

Ten dollars, fifty dollarsOne hundred or two,

Any amount you’d like to giveWill certainly do!

So away to your checkbookWithout further delay,

Write your check to Home and SchoolAnd send it in today!

Home and School is coordinating a voluntary Christmas Gift Program this year. This is a great way to show your appreciation for our faculty and staff instead of purchasing traditional presents or gift cards. If you would like to participate, please place your donation in an envelope with the attached form. Mark on the form the faculty and staff members you would like to include and each donation amount. Return the form with a single check payable to “CASH.” The submission deadline is December 13, 2018. Home and School will then distribute the money to each faculty and staff member along with a list of those families who made a donation. If you make a check out to Annunciation Home & School it will be returned. Donation amounts will not be listed. Any amount you would like to give is appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact Candace Benton at [email protected]. .
