2. An agent that causes anorexia.Many drug s were developed and manufactured in order to replace a powerful drug named amphetamine, or methamphetamine. People who used this drug experienced high blood pressure, increased heart rate, dilated pupils and feel powerful ,extremely alert and also induce energy. The drug used to be legal, and was primarily prescribed and used treat asthma, narcolepsy and hyperactivity. However it was also misused as an appetite suppressant, or used for maximum performance abilities at work or in the office. This drug was found to be very addictive and extremely potent.

Because of the stimulant nature of Anoretic Drugs, and their similarity with amphetamine, they can result in a serious addiction problem, and cause damaging effects to the person’s health. These anorectic drug addiction include benzphetamine (Didrex), diethylproprion (Tenuate, Tepanil), fenfluramine (Pondimin), mazindol (Sanorex, Mazanor), phendimetrazine (Bontril, Prelu-2, Plegine) and phentermine (Ionamin, AdipexP).

Benzphetamine (Didrex)

Benzphetamine is a stimulant that is similar to an amphetamine. Benzphetamine is an appetite suppressant that affects the central nervous system. Benzphetamine is used togther with diet and exercise to treat obesity (overweight).Side Effect:

buzzing in your ears, anxiety, confusion, chest pain, shortness of breath, uneven heartbeats, seizure.Benzphetamine is extremely addictive, and if misused the person may develop a serious drug addiction problem, as well as forming a high tolerance to this drug.

Diethylproprion (Tenuate, Tepanil)Diethylpropion is an appetite suppressant. It works by acting on the appetite center in the brain to cause a temporary reduction in hunger or craving for food. Short-term weight reduction in the management of obesity as part of a diet plan, exercise, and behavior therapy.Side Effects:

fast or irregular heartbeat heart palpitations blurred vision skin rash itching difficulty breathing chest pain fainting

swelling of the ankles or feet fever sore throat chills painful urination

Diethylpropion may be habit-forming. Do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or for a longer period than your doctor tells you to. Call your doctor if diethylpropion loses its effect.

Mazindol (Sanorex, Mazanor)Mazindol is a sympathomimetic amine, which is similar to an amphetamine. It is also known as an “anorectic” or an “anorexigenic” drug. Mazindol stimulates the central nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite.Side Effects:

dizziness, blurred vision, restlessness, hide the symptoms of extreme tiredness.

Mazindol is habit forming. You can become physically and psychologically dependent on this medication, and withdrawal effects may occur if you stop taking it suddenly after several weeks of continuous use.

Phendimetrazine (Bontril, Prelu-2, Plegine)Phendimetrazine is a sympathomimetic amine, which is similar to an amphetamine. It is also known as an “anorectic drug addiction” or “anorexigenic” drug. Phendimetrazine stimulates the central nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite.

Side Effects:

Cardiovascular: Palpitation, tachycardia, elevated blood pressure.

Central Nervous System: Overstimulation, restlessness, insomnia, agitation, flushing, tremor, sweating, dizziness, headache, psychotic state, blurring of vision.

Gastrointestinal: Dryness of the mouth, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain.

Genitourinary: Urinary frequency, dysuria, changes in libido.

Misuse of this drug may cause convulsions, coma and death.

Phentermine (Ionamin, AdipexP).

Phentermine is a stimulant that is similar to an amphetamine. Phentermine is an appetite suppressant that affects the central nervous system.

Phentermine is used together with diet and exercise to treat obesity (overweight) in people with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes.

Side Effects

Bad taste in mouth;

changes in sex drive; constipation; diarrhea; difficulty sleeping; dizziness; dry mouth; exaggerated sense of well being; headache; impotence; nervousness; overstimulation; restlessness; sleeplessness; upset stomach

Severe side effects may be: rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; irrational behavior; chest

pain; fainting; fast heartbeat; pounding in the chest; shortness of breath; swelling of the legs and feet; tremor.

The body develops a tolerance for the drug over time, so more must be taken to achieve the same effect, which is a characteristic of an addictive substance .
