  • The ANR SON is a self-optimization application responsible for building and maintaining an optimal neighbor list for each cell within the operating range automatically and dynamically, both for intra neighbors list and inter neighbors list. It identifies missing or redundant neighbors and automatically reconfigures optimal neighbor lists according to actual current conditions.

    4

  • The work flow in which ANR is performed consists of three stage executed in a continues and cyclic manner: Snapshot - Real-time visibility of activities in the network. Action - Automatic optimization of Neighbors lists and configuration of cell parameters. Feedback - Dynamic feedback according to which the new configuration is either saved or reverted.

    5

  • ANR Snapshot: main stage of the ANR, this is where the application generates a suggested neighbor relations change list.

  • In the Action stage changes are performed in the cell parameters configuration and changes in neighbors lists (adding of new cells and removal of others). Actions set several OSS changes , 6 changes

    7

  • In the feedback stage the activity in the network after performing the changes is examined. We decide if we submit or restore the changes we made. Validate by the DCR and the weight. One of the unique features of the Quantum SON is the feedback stage. The feedback procedures role is to check the efficiency and validity of the neighbor list changes performed by the ANR. After an Action Stability period, during the feedback stage the application checks if the neighbor list changes had a positive effect on the relevant metrics. The ANR analysis times are all configurable from the Setting screens. For each action in the configured feedback time after snapshot, the feedback phase will decide if the action should be submitted or reverted. The feedback checks the impact of the neighbor relation on the drop rate. For every action performed, the system checks if there was any significant increase in call drops in the cells undergoing the action. The system compares the drops within the feedback time to the drops in the week before, 3 weeks

  • Using Intucell dynamic SON ANR application ensure you benefit from: KPI improvement reduction of call drops Improved operational efficiency reduction of repetitive manual actions enabling you to impact the full scope of the network, rather then addressing only specific problems. Dynamic Adaptation to network changes - ANR is triggered by the current network conditions. When the application identifies deterioration of these conditions, it calculates a preferred neighbor list and parameters and updates the OSS accordingly. Network Topology Improvement - The ANR application preforms all the necessary NL maintenance actions required to meet the requirements for performance optimization or network topology changes, automatically and continuously, making sure you maximize your networks capacity.

  • In this example, the highlighted square represent the period in which the ANR application was active. As you can see, there a significant reduction in the call drops rate when the application is first activated. Once the application is deactivated the call drops rate increases again. Typically after the application is first activated the rate of call drops is reduced. If the application is kept operating then it maintains an averagely stabile rate of call drops.

  • One of the factors we take into consideration when looking for candidates for as neighbors is weight. One of the tools used to check and compare cell relations is the weight of the neighbor relation. The weight is calculated using relation counters denoting the usage of each relation by UEs in the tested cell. Different counters are used for inter-frequency and intra-frequency relations. The weight displayed reflects the number of handovers from the source cell to the target cell relative to the total number of handovers from the source cell to all of its neighbors. A higher value of weight denotes a stronger neighbor relation

  • SON takes a sample every Snapshot Interval. The length of the sample is determined by the parameter Sample Time Duration. In the sample, SON examines whether the cells DCR and number of CS calls have crossed the thresholds defined by the engineer

  • Candidates are not selected based on proximity, but their addition will be rejected if they are not within the radius defined by the engineers as SON work radius. The work radius is Average Distance+ 3*Hysterisis

  • Before neighbor addition, ANR examines how many existing Intra relations there are and whether the number exceeds the maximum allowed (as the local engineers defined in the GUI). If needed, an existing relation will be deleted to make room. In addition to that, when a new neighbor relation is created, ANR will build it symmetrically/asymmetrically according to the operators definition in the GUI.

  • Typically, a call is maintained by one cell. As the user changes his position the call is handover to one of the cells neighbors. In a soft handover situation, the call is maintained by several cells simultaneously (normally up to 3 or 4 cells). In order to indicate to the user equipment which neighboring cells are available, the RNC unifies the neighbor lists of all cells in the Active Set to generate one neighbor list which will be transmitted to the user equipment by all the cells in the Active Set. RNC determines which cells should be included in the unified list by checking the neighbors priority on each list and selecting the highest ones.
