COMPETENCEWe know a lot about food supermar-kets. The attractive sales-promoting presentation of goods has been one of Ansorg’s concerns for over 50 years. It is therefore no wonder that we also know how light can create an appetite for more. Since particu-larly where the tactile subject of food and drink is concerned, the right quality of lighting helps to increase sales in the supermarket by bringing emotion into play.
TECHNO-LOGY
PRODUCTSEspecially for the food retail trade, An-sorg has put together a selection of lu-minaires which cover all zones, re- quirements and tasks in the best possi-ble way. Our product portfolio is a re-liable basis as far as the technology and t he optimum price/ performance ratio are concerned – whether be-tween the shelves, over the counters, the fresh food area, the wine depart-ment, as ambient lighting or as accent lighting.
QUALITY
LIGHTING DESIGNThe right lighting creates a customer-friendly atmosphere and increases guidance with light. It leads the cus-tomer through the sales room and en-sures the true colours of the range. The use of light, colour and brightness en-sures a positive atmosphere in the sales area – with the aim being to make customers feel good.
SERVICE

C D
EntranceInvolved here is the attractive distant effect with recognition value and the inviting entrance area: the entrance characterises the supermarket to the outside. Its promotionally effective function goes far beyond the functional building access. Here independent luminaires of a decora-tive nature which have a striking and high-quality appearance prove successful.
Shelves in the background: an objective is the rear wall illumination, flush with the ceiling, which appears to cover the whole area and nevertheless appears lively. Here luminaires with asymmetrical reflectors are necessary which, with high efficiency, project the light evenly onto the shelves. Effi-cient luminaires permit the use of a lower number as larger spaces bet-ween them are possible
Aisles containing ranges are the largest part of the area to be lit. Here the focus is placed on lighting in keeping with the merchandise and on economic efficiency. The accentuated shelf and aisle area lighting is an essential aspect of lighting design. It directs the gaze of the consumers systematically towards the ranges of goods on the shelves.
Along a main axis the light serves in particular for orientation, shows the direction and leads people into the adjoining aisles and areas.Ansorg systematically looks after this important main access axis with the help of an appropriate gondola head lighting system, arranged along the aisles and at the same time setting the scene for goods in an attractive way.

High-quality products are a guarantee for good food. The Mood filter underscores the selection criteria in the counter. Meat as fresh food is also very sensitive. For that reason, the focus is on the least damaging but sales-promoting presentation by means of a combination of effi cient lighting equipment with special filters.
The fish counter makes particularly high demands on the degree of freshness and the visual appearance of the goods presentation. White fish fillet alongside salmon-coloured crustacean additionally means re-quirements rich in contrast. The light colour temperature 4200K, in combination with the Rosé filter makes the fillet, together with the crushed ice, sparkle and underlines the red component.
Bread and pastries are handled with care and they are displayed in a sales-promoting manner. The best way to do so is with a range of appealing warm colours corresponding to the nature of this item of food. HIT lamps are the chosen illuminant. At this point, the Gold filter is put to use: it makes bread look appetising and at the same time protects the sensitive pastries from excessively high temperatures.
The lighting for the fresh products which are shown in all colour facets should have an appetite-whetting effect and be gentle on the merchan-dise. This brings the Sun filter to the forefront. The HID lamp as the illu-minant underlines the variety of colours and emphasises the freshness and attractiveness of the various types of fruit and vegetables.

The cash desk area demands an individualised lighting concept since here non-glare workplace lighting, scene setting for goods and orienta-tion aid come close together. In the sales room itself, the cash desk must be visible for the consumers from a great distance.
Deep-freezers require homogeneously bright horizontal lighting. The brand images of the goods must be illuminated rich in contrast and wit-hout any thermal load. Suspended luminaires place room-forming and decorative accents. They make it easier to find your way and permit vi-sual allocation of the groups of products.
In this high-quality area what it’s all about is the mood, the refined gour-met atmosphere. Accentuated lighting increases the attractiveness and the apparent value of the products. Sun filters ensure a warm lighting situation with a minimum thermal load, in which the consumers like to linger.

The compact spotlight BOP was conceived for the power track and as a product for semi-recessing. BOP provides an optimum price/performance ratio. The design is balanced and characterised by generously dimensioned radii. BOP gives the ceiling an uncluttered appearance and is recommended also for low room heights and for suspended ceilings with shal-low recessing depths. The spotlight head made of glass fibre-reinforced plastic shows lower thermal conductivity. BOP is also available using the very latest LED technology.

The spotlight TAKE embodies modern, sophisticated design and brilliant light quality. Innovative convex facetted reflector technology provides TAKE with very high operational efficiencies and produced brilliant, non-glare presentation light. This is successful even at low wattages starting from 20 watts - a convincing sign of high energy efficiency. The horizontal arrange-ment of the ballast housing and the lighting head makes the spotlight, with its very low mounting height, appear compact and, at the same time, light. Not least, TAKE impresses with its ease of maintenance and user-friendliness.

The product philosophy of ”the reflector as a luminaire“ has been taken a step further with BOXX. The shape concentrates on essentials, while the function is based on high-quality lighting and electrical equipment. What is special about BOXX is the continuous adjustment of the focusing from narrow to wide beam carried out without any change of reflector which means that this is an extremely user-friendly design. Due to its flat shape this spotlight is suitable for areas with low ceilings.

+ YOUTECHNOLOGY WITH SAVINGS POTENTIAL
The innovations in shop lighting are closely linked to the rapid development of LED tech-nology. LED technology has a direct influence on changes in luminaire design as well as in the design and efficiency of lighting concepts. For food retailing, the criteria of energy saving and effective setting of scenes for merchandise are mainly of importance.
Lighting has long been a main factor and in-strument of strategic salesroom design. The fur-ther development of LED technology, above all with regard to light quality and efficiency, is leading to the increased use of LED lighting so-lutions in all sectors of the retail trade. While so far the use of LED solutions has been limited to individual sub-areas or special lighting tasks, meanwhile also whole-area LED concep-tions are being implemented which meet high quality requirements.
Ansorg gladly provides you with competent support for all questions relating to LED tech-nology.

1WHAT ARE THE MAIN ARGUMENTS FOR THE USE OF LED EQUIPMENT IN FOOD RETAILING?
Due to the specific characteristics of LED equipment, numerous side effects which always had to be taken into account as well, can be solved considerably more easily. Maintenance of the lighting system associated with effort and expenditure is a thing of the past. The reduced thermal load and the absence of the UV component ensure gentle lighting and accommodate the “fresh products”. Energy savings are already possible today. With the rapid development of LEDs this is a rising trend.
2WHICH AREAS OF FOOD RETAILING ARE PARTICULARLY PREDESTINED FOR THE USE OF LEDS?
The advantages of LED technology take effect mainly in the area of quickly perishable food. Lighting gentle on the products without any thermal load is of great importance particularly in the area of fresh food (meat, sausage, fish, fruit and vegetables), as freshness is the decisive selling point. In addition, product rejects are reduced.
HIT
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT LEDS
vs HIT

153
3WHAT AREAS IN FOOD RETAILING ARE STILL SUITABLE FOR THE USE OF LEDS?
The use of LEDs is likewise appropriate when the second main advantage of this lighting technology, namely the long service life, comes into play. This is the case especially in areas difficult of access and in high-maintenance areas such as above refrigerated counters or in the entrance area with high ceilings.
4WHAT ENERGY SAVING EFFECTS DUE TO LEDS ARE TO BE REALISTICALLY EXPECTED?
The energy savings effects resulting from the retrofitting of LEDs depend to a high degree on what lighting equipment was used previously. In the food retail sector, low-efficiency sodium vapour discharge (HST) lamps or lamps with a very high wattage are often used. Here there is certainly a possibility of saving energy by retrofitting. For a realistic assessment, however, the whole lighting concept must be considered and analysed.
If you compare a 35-watt HIT luminaire with an LED variant with the same power, in the case of the electric connected load a saving of approx. 14 % is achieved, with the trend increasing.

5WHAT AREAS CAN BE RETROFITTED WITH LEDS WITH RELATIVELY LITTLE EFFORT AND EXPENDITURE?
Little effort and expenditure on retrofitting/modification is required in readily accessible areas, in which, for example, spotlights are mounted on power tracks. By replacing the luminaires, energy saving can be achieved directly by less power consumption. The advantages of the lower UV and thermal load have a direct effect on fresh products.
6WHAT REALISTIC AMORTISATION TIMES HAVE TO BE EXPECTED IN THE CASE OF LEDS?
This question can only be answered after detailed analysis of the lighting conception (pure LED conception or mixed conception with conventional technology) for the entire sales room. A sweeping statement on the amortisation times is not possible. The LED concept can already be amortised after 2–3 years; in other cases, however, longer amortisation times of 5–8 years can be expected.
155
100%7WHERE AND WHY ARE OTHER / CONVENTIONAL LIGHTING TECHNOLOGIES MORE APPROPRIATE THAN LEDS AND TO BE RECOMMENDED?
By now there is hardly any lighting situation which cannot be convincingly implemented with LEDs. Exceptions are those situations in which it is not possible to work with the usual mounting height of about 3.20 m. In the case of conceptually required accentuation lighting from very great heights, the bigger lumen packages of conventional high-pressure discharge lamps are more likely to be put to use. At high wattages these show a higher efficiency than the LED equipment.
8UNDER WHAT CONDITIONS IS IT APPROPRIATE TO ILLUMINATE A GROCERY STORE PREDOMINANTLY OR EVEN COMPLETELY WITH LEDS?
Complete implementation with LEDs is at the end of the day dependent upon a sample calculation. A professional calculation of profitability can clarify the matter in this case and answer this question specifically.
A whole-area lighting system using LED equipment, however, always makes sense when optimum interplay of all or of the main LED advantages comes into effect.
