Anti-Collision Assistant

Maximum safety when maneuvering!

MULAG Orbiter conveyor belt vehicles have maximum sensitivi-ty while maneuvering near aircraftby through the hydrostatic or respectively electric drive system. Due to weather conditions or improper operation of the vehicle it comes occasionally to mild or even severe damage to the aircraft. In order to avoid the resulting cost of repairs and any start delays, we have developed a protec-tion system that is designed to help prevent such incidents.

Sensor system for safe ground handling!

Reliable maneuvering in the security zone of the aircraft is a requirement to prevent damage to the aircraft. With the activation of the anti-collision assistant ACA, the operator is assisted in handling the conveyor belt car by an automatic ultrasonic sensor system on the front end of the conveyor.

Anti-Collision Assistant ACAfor Orbiter Conveyor Belt Vehicles

High reliability Safety during approachAvoid damage

The innovative sensor system of the ACATo measure the distance to the front of the vehicle there are provided two ultrasonic sensors to right and left at the front end of the conveyor. With the assistance system activated they detect the distance to the aircraft during the approach.

To prevent damage to the aircraft during the lifting of the conveyor belt, two additional ultrasonic sensors are moun-ted on the right hand side of the conveyor front end. They measure continously the distance to the top while the anti-collision assistant is activated.

Activation of ACA-assistance system

The anti-collision assistant ACA can be activated either manually by pressing the green control switch or is activated automatically when lifting the conveyor belt. Upon successful activation, the indicator light on the control panel and an optional signal lamp on the cab of the orbiter lights up green.

Overview of the ACA approaching zonesZone 4 – Outside the safety zone of 8 m

The assistance system doesn‘t have to be activated outside the safety zone.

No speed reduction

No detection of obstacles because of deactivation

All control systems are disabled, no signals

Zone 3 – Within the safety zone of 8 m

Activation by pushing a control button or by lifting the belt body.

Immediate reduction in speed to walking speed

Safe approach through lowering the vehicle speed

Activation is indicated by optical signal

Zone 2 – Distance to the aircraft under 2 m

The assistance system is active.

The speed is reduced to creeping speed.

Recognition of obstacles on ultrasonic sensors leads to a complete stop

Activation is signaled visually and acoustically

Zone 1 – Distance to the aircraft approx. 40 cm

The assistance system is active.

The drive forward is stopped, the parking brake is applied.

The belt functions „Lift Front“ and „Lift/Lower Rear“ are now being blocked.

Activation is signaled visually and acoustically

Zone 0 – contact with the collision protector

In case of contact of the rubber wheels, which are serving as collision protectors, with the aircraft the forward drive is stopped immediately, the parking brake is applied and the belt functions „Lift Front“ and „Lift/Lower Rear“ are being locked. The rear-wheel drive and the „Lower Front“ function is available at any time without restriction.

For certain operations it is necessary to move the vehic-le shortly despite locked drive functions, for example to align the conveyor belt at the loading hatch. By pressing and holding the red button it is possible to override the

forward drive lock and the locked belt functions. Du-ring the operation of the override button, these functions are active again to enable the desired driving maneuver. Overriding the drive lock at contact (zone 0) is not possible!

Anti-Collision Assistant ACA – supporting security systemWith the assistance system ACA the maneuvering of Orbiter conveyor belt vehicles is reliably secured while loading and unloading aircraft. It helps to prevent da-mage to the aircraft, which can cause unnecessary costs at the expense of economic feasibility of opera-tions. The efficiency and flexibility of our Orbiter con-veyor belt vehicles is still the same.

In the development of the anti-collision Assistant ACA value was set to close cooperation with users. Together with our engineers it was accomplished to design a se-curity system that effectively supports the operator in his work.

GSE-quality pays off

The well thought-out and carefully tested ultrasonic sen-sor system withstands reliably the hard every-day work of ground support. Over 50 years of experience in the deve-lopment of airport ground support vehicles is reflected in the quality of our products.
