54. A Hand Painted Aboriginal Eucalyptus Bark Painting, depicting Ant Eaters. £40-50
55. A 19th Century Scrapbook of Significant Archaeological and Historical Interest relating to Assyria (N. Iraq) the journal contains titled drawings,
diagrams and sketches of the surrounding Assyrian landscape. Complete with written extracts of cuneiform and other ancient Persian script. The scrapbook appears to relate to finds made during excavations there in the mid-19th Century by Sir Austen Henry Layard GCB PC. There are approx 14 pages of handwritten notes which appear to be the opening chapter and short extracts of Sir Austen Henry Layard GCB PC first publication 'Nineveh and its Remains' beautifully executed illustrations amongst the written work. A list of Persian Monarchs according to native & foreign authors is amongst the written work with monarchs listed from the Kaianian Dynasty beginning from 709 BC through to 1788 AD. The authorship of this scrapbook is not verified; however, the extracts are written in the first person and are personal and detailed, the approx 45 illustrations are done by a competent draftsman, some complete and others less so depicting archaeological discoveries. The scrapbook itself appears to be an original ships accounting log relating to 'The Bristol' and is dated and watermarked for 1798. Austen Henry Layard GCB PC was an English traveller, archaeologist, cuneiformist, art historian, draughtsman, collector, politician and diplomat. He is best known as the excavator of Nimrud and of Nineveh. Provenance: Property of an Italian lady, originally from Rome, the scrap book belonged to her late husband and formed part of his collection.

Provenance: Property of an Italian lady, originally from Rome, belonged to her late husband and formed part of his collection he was a Austin enthusiast and had many early vehicles in his collection.
