The Association upholds Indian heritage and culture and aims to provide quality education at affordable cost. Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science was gifted to Coimbatore in 1989, the silver jubilee year of Coimbatore Welfare Association. The mission of the institution is to instill moral values of life in the minds of the youth and to promote leadership qualities and entrepreneurial skills among the students. The service of the institution is extended for the betterment of the society. The ultimate aim is to emerge as institute of excellence in higher learning, imparting value based education in line with global standards. Today SNMV offers nine under graduate courses and four post graduate courses along with Research Programmes in Biotechnology, Computer Science and Commerce. In the current year the total strength of the college is 1421 (966 boys and 455 girls) with 84 teaching faculty and 74 non-teaching staff members. Infrastructure More than 3 lakh sq. ft. of RCC area with 50 classrooms, state-of-the-art Science and Computer laboratories, automated library, Apex Seminar Hall, Mahaveers Auditorium, separate homely hostels for boys and girls, hostel mess, Staff Quarters and canteen provide facilities for the smooth conduct of academic activities. The strength of the hostel inmates has multiplied from 33 students in 1998 to 351 as on date (225 boys and 126 girls). Introduction

Coimbatore Welfare Association, a charitable trust consisting of philanthropists with visionary zeal, was

established in the year 1964. The Association upholds Indian heritage and culture and aims to provide quality education

at affordable cost.

Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science was gifted to Coimbatore in 1989, the silver jubilee year of

Coimbatore Welfare Association. The mission of the institution is to instill moral values of life in the minds of the youth

and to promote leadership qualities and entrepreneurial skills among the students. The service of the institution is

extended for the betterment of the society. The ultimate aim is to emerge as institute of excellence in higher learning,

imparting value based education in line with global standards.

Today SNMV offers nine under graduate courses and four post graduate courses along with Research

Programmes in Biotechnology, Computer Science and Commerce. In the current year the total strength of the college is

1421 (966 boys and 455 girls) with 84 teaching faculty and 74 non-teaching staff members.

Infrastructure

More than 3 lakh sq. ft. of RCC area with 50 classrooms, state-of-the-art Science and Computer laboratories,

automated library, Apex Seminar Hall, Mahaveers Auditorium, separate homely hostels for boys and girls, hostel mess,

Staff Quarters and canteen provide facilities for the smooth conduct of academic activities. The strength of the hostel

inmates has multiplied from 33 students in 1998 to 351 as on date (225 boys and 126 girls).

SNMV Institute of Management

MBA Block, under the banner of SNMV Institute of Management, started functioning from June 2009. The

artistically constructed infrastructure has ideal classrooms and hi-tech computer labs which are fully air conditioned.

This institute, is facilitated with smart classrooms. It is envisaged as a temple of learning for aspiring management

leaders.

Computer Laboratories

The computing facility is being continuously upgraded and modernized. The Institution has computer labs with

high-tech laptops and desktops with wi-fi and wi-max connectivity. The advent of automation has assured

interdepartmental 'LAN' Connectivity. The office is fully automated.

Library

The library is a treasure - trove of knowledge with 17,420 books, 67 periodicals (31 National and 11 International),

among students. This award judges students across a comprehensive criterion of continuous assessment on the basis

of books, journals and newspaper reviews presented by them. Two students, one each from UG & PG, are picked for

this award. Vinil .C of II MBA, and R. Raj Kumar of III B Com-IT are the award winners of the academic year 2011-2012.

As in the previous years, we have produced good result int the university examinations conducted in April 2011.

The institution has produced 100 % results in B.Sc Biotechnology, B.Sc Microbiology MIB, M.Sc Biotechnology and

Bharathiar University Ranks

Good performance by the students in Bharathiar University examinations during April 2011 have enabled them to

reach the pinnacle of academic excellence. Ten students have secured university ranks adding to the existing bouquet

of 137 ranks (Total:147 ranks: First ranks: 9 in UG and 10 in PG; Second ranks 7 in UG and 10 in PG).

Graduation Day 2010

ndGraduation Day was celebrated on April 2 2011. Dr.K.Karunakaran, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University of

Technology, Coimbatore was the Chief Guest. He awarded Gold medal to the first rank holder in MBA, Toshi.S.Parmar

and Silver medals and rank certificates to the University Rank holders and Class toppers and degree certificates to 266

under graduates and 45 post graduates totaling to 311 students.

Graduation Day 2011

thGraduation Day 2011 was held in our College on April 4 , 2012. Dr. M. R. Srinivasan, Former Member – Planning Commission, Govt. of India, Former Chairman-Atomic Energy Commission & Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India and Member, Atomic Energy Commission was the Chief Guest. He delivered the Graduation Day Address on the topic, “Graduation – A beginning in Life”. Degrees were conferred upon 500 Graduates and Medals and Certificates were awarded to Bharathiar University rank holders and class toppers.

Shri. B. Balchand, Immediate Past President, Coimbatore Welfare Association, presided over the function. President, Shri. Ashwin K. Shah, Secretary, Shri. Ashok Lunia, Joint Secretary, Shri. Ashok Kumar Bhandari, Past Presidents, Shri. Kanakalal Abhaichand, Shri. Champalal. G. Bafna and Shri. Mangilal Jain graced the occasion with their presence.

The Academic Procession was followed by invocation. Secretary, Shri. Ashok Lunia, delivered the welcome address. Principal, Dr. P. Jeyaram, declared the Graduation Day open and conducted the proceedings. During the Oath-taking ceremony, the pledge was read out by the Principal and was repeated by the Graduates.

The Chief Guest, in his Graduation address, stated that the purpose of education is to prepare young men and women to become productive members of society. “Life becomes a continuous process of learning and upgrading one's skills and abilities; education today has to accommodate students to meet the new challenges” he added.

h Our U.G. students continuing Postgraduate studies in our college will be eligible for 10% fee concession

(including MBA).

h SNV school students joining our college for undergraduate courses will be eligible for 10% fee concession

and will be exempted from admission fee.

h 25%/50% Scholarship will be offered for sports persons seeking admission provided they have represented

State / National level competitions.

h Our U.G. students securing University First Rank and continuing Postgraduate studies in our college will be

eligible for 100% scholarship.

Special Scholarship

h The Management has introduced special scholarship scheme for the under graduate students from the academic

year 2011-2012. As per this scheme, 100% scholarship is offered to the Department topper with 80% and above

marks (Part III subjects only) in the University Examinations.

thOn 25 April 2011, Mrs Nalina Kesavamurthy and Mr Kesavamurthy of Govind HRD (P) Ltd started the first stage of performance appraisal exercise of the staff.

thA one day visit to Jagannath Textile Company Ltd (JTCL) was organized for the Teaching Staff of SNMV CAS on19 February 2011 to observe the best practices followed over there.

On 16/6/2011 a Faculty Development Program on 'Motivation' was conducted for the Teaching faculty. The resource person was Dr. K. Kannan, our former Principal.

Assistant Professors, Ms. Jaini Samani Suklapragya and Ms.Samani Vinaaypragya, Directorate of Distant Education, Jain Vishwabharathi University, Ladun and disciples of Tevapanth Jain Acharya Mehashrumanji, addressed the faculty on 'Stress Management' on 26.03.2012. They shared the messages of peace and harmony which can be acquired through Preksha Meditation. “Live simply, love sincerely, care deeply and speak kindly” was the philosophy conveyed by them.

Extension Activities

h The Department of English conducted an Extension activity on 22/6/2011 for +2 students of Government Higher

Secondary School, Malumachampatti. The program was on “A Critical Appreciation of English Prose at +2 Level”.

Independence Day Celebrations 2011

thThe 65 Independence Day was celebrated in the college on 15-8-2011. A March past by NCC Cadets and NSS

Volunteers made the function colorful. The Secretary advised the students to be “healthy, wealthy and wise in all their

Parent – Teachers Meet 2011

Parent – Teachers Meet 2011 was held on 30.10.2011. An LCD presentation about the college and students'

achievements and an interaction between the parents and teachers were the highlights of the day. Parents gave their

feedback and suggestions for further betterment of the institution.

Laurus -Nov.2K11

The Departments of Computer Science, Computer Applications and Information Technology organized an Inter-thSchool Cultural Meet “Laurus -Nov.2K11”, a talent hunt for +2 students on 27 November 2011. Shri. R. Gunasekar,

Inspector of Matriculation Schools, Coimbatore was the chief guest. Treasurer Shri. Gautam Chand Srisrimal, presided

over the function. College Secretary, Shri A. Ashok Lunia, graced the occasion with his presence. 653 students and 25

teachers from 28 schools participated enthusiastically. The Star-performer Award was bagged by Mr. S. Sridhar,

RKV Matriculation School, Coimbatore and the Overall Trophy was won by SBOA Matriculation School, R.S. Puram,

Coimbatore.

h An Inter-school Talent Hunt 'Auctus-Dec. 2011' was organized for the Plus Two Students on December

28.12.2011. Mr. N. Shanmugam, President, Malumachampatti Panchayat, was the Chief Guest. Secretary,

Shri. A. Ashok Lunia declared the Meet open. Joint Secretary, Shri. P. Ashok Kumar Bhandari graced the

occasion with his august presence.

h Worshipful Mayor, Thiru S. M. Velusamy, was the Chief Guest of the valedictory function. President, Shri. Ashwin

K Shah, presided over the function. Secretary, Shri. A. Ashok Lunia, delivered the welcome address. The

Principal felicitated the winners. Joint Secretary Shri. P. Ashok Kumar Bhandari and Past President,

Shri. Kanaklal Abhaichand were the other important dignitaries.

h The Mayor in his address praised the social service rendered by the institution to the society by nurturing in the

student community, faith, humility and service through value-based education. He advised the students to get

honed into academically sound, morally good, industry-ready and wholesome individuals enhanced by the

knowledge provided by this reputed institution.

h Around 700 students from 51 schools participated enthusiastically in 16 events. Certificates were issued to the

prize winners. The Overall Trophy was won by S.B.O.A. Matriculation Higher Secondary School. V. Aditya Rahul

of S.B.O.A.School and J. Janani of SNV School were crowned as Mr. Auctus and Ms. Auctus respectively.

Pongal Celebrations 2012

'Samacheer Pongal' was celebrated with pomp and splendour on January 13, 2012. The students belonging to

various religions prepared pongal and it was distributed to all. Competitions like Rangoli, Uriyadhithal, Tug-of-war,

Kabadi, Silambattam, Kummiattam, Thevarattam and Jikkattam were held. Martial Arts set the tone and tenor of the

celebrations with their dexterity and skillfulness. Shri. R. Shanmugam, President, Malumachampatti was the Chief

Guest and he distributed the prizes to all the winners of the pongal competitions.

Annual Day Celebration of Hanuman Temple

The Annual Day Celebration of Hanuman Temple Kumbabishekham was held on 20.01.2012. College Secretary

Shri. A. Ashok Lunia and Joint Secretary, Shri. P. Ashok Kumar Bhandari participated in the celebrations.

Youth Red Cross

Youth Red Cross conducted the inaugural function along with the Blood Donation Camp on 24.01.2012.

Dr. Sivaprakasam, Residential Medical Officer and Dr Palaniappan, Medical Officer and their team from CMC Hospital,

organized the camp. YRC Officers, Mrs. K. Maragathambigai, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology and

Ms. B. Chitra, Assistant Professor, BCA Department made the arrangements. 77 students donated blood.

Republic Day Celebrations 2012

The Republic Day was celebrated in our college in a befitting manner. College Secretary Shri. A. Ashok Lunia,

hoisted the National Flag. This was followed by a march past by NCC cadets and NSS volunteers. Speeches by

students in English, Tamil and Hindi, patriotic songs and skits made the occasion memorable.The prizes and

certificates were handed over to the winners of the competitions by our Principal, Dr.P.Jeyaram.

International Women's Day 2012

International Women's Day was celebrated under the ambit of Women Empowerment Cell on 08.03.2012. The

Chief Guest of the day, Smt. S. Leelavathi Unni, the first Woman Deputy Mayor of Coimbatore gave a special address

and distributed Sewing Machines and Tri-cycles to the physically challenged woman. College Secretary Shri. Ashok

Annual Sports Day 2012

rdThe 23 Annual Sports Day Meet was celebrated on 28.03.12 with Mr.T.Palaniswamy, Director of Physical

Education, P.S.G. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research as the Chief Guest. The field and track events were the

highlights of the day. The Chief Guest delivered the Sports Day address and distributed the prizes to the winners. Sports

Committee Chairman, Shri. Rathan Chand Bothra offered his felicitations. Principal, Dr.P.Jeyaram welcomed the

gathering.

The Chief Guest stressed the importance of hard work for becoming a true sportsman and for achieving the

cherished goals in life. He asked the students to give due respect and pay obesiance to parents and teachers who are

their guiding spirits.

College Day Celebrations 2012

rdThe 23 College Day Celebrations, 'Quake Arena 12' were held on 02.04.12. It triggered a splurge of activities

and the college bustled with a plethora of programmes. Mr. D. B. Manival Raju, I.R.S, Commissioner of Income Tax,

Coimbatore, was the Chief Guest. The College President, Shri. Ashwin K. Shah presided over the function and

delivered the presidential address. Secretary, Shri. Ashok Lunia addressed the gathering. Joint Secretary, Shri. Ashok

Kumar Bhandari, Past Presidents, Shri. Kanaklal Abhaichand and Shri. Mangilal Jain graced the occasion with their

presence. Principal, Dr. P. Jeyaram presented the Annual Report for the academic year 2012-2013.

The Chief Guest pointed out that time is the only commodity that cannot be brought back. “Knowing oneself is the

beginning of acquiring knowledge, setting an objective and gaining wisdom through experience” were the important

ideas put forth by him. He insisted that law-abiding citizens should pay the tax to the authorities concerned. He also gave

away prizes to those who have excelled in academics as well as in extra-curricular activities.

Various cultural events added colour to the occasion. Mr. SNMV and Ms. SNMV awards were bagged by

Suryaprakash of II BCA and Deepika Kumari Jain of III B.Com respectively. The Overall Trophy was won by the Red

House. The best employees of the month, the staff who have produced 100% result, the best outgoing students, the

best library users and the class toppers were rewarded.

The judges of various competitions, the organizers, and the winners of 'Laurus' and 'Auctus' were honoured. The

vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. D. Kannan, Dean i/c, Department of Computer Science and Convenor of the

College Day celebrations.

Farewell Meeting - 2012

A Farewell Meeting for the faculty members, who are leaving the institution, was organized on April 20, 2012 at

4.30 p.m. in the Apex seminar hall. All the teachers attended the programme. Shri. Ashok Lunia, Secretary of the

college, addressed the faculty members and offered sincere thanks to them for sharing their knowledge and rich

experience with students. He conveyed best wishes to them and presented mementos. Speaking about the role of

teachers in student development, he stated: “Our activities should be focused on the welfare of the students and

teachers have to mould them perfectly and make them competent to meet the current global challenges”. Shri. Ashok

Kumar Bhandari, Joint Secretary of the college, graced the occasion with his presence and felicitated the teaching

community. Dr. P. Jeyaram, Principal of the college, welcomed the gathering and expressed his thought that the

teachers are the assets of the institution and that the good service rendered by them will be cherished always.

was distributed to the public and the local shop keepers at Malumachampatti.

h The Department of Computer Applications organized an Exhibition 'i- WARE' on Science and Computer ndTechnology on 22 August 2011. Shri Ashwin K. Shah, Vice President, CWA, was the chief guest, and a CD on

'Global Warming and its impact on Earth' was released.

h The Staff and Students of Department of Biotechnology participated in a two day National Level Seminar, nd rd'BIOCROSSROADS' 2011, held at KSG College of Arts and Science, on 22 and 23 September 2011.

h English Association Literati 'organized a Group Debate Forum on the topic 'Eco Green Revolution Vensus

urbanization' on Dec16, 2011 for UG and PG students. 4 teams with 16 members participated and articulated their

views effectively. The first place was secured by the team comprising of A.Vignesh (III B.Com B), G. Deepalakhmi

(III B.Com A), S. Shriram (III B.Com B) and M. Janavi (I B.Com ); the second and third prizes were bagged by the

students B.Com (IT) and Computer science respectively.th

h Women Empowerment Cell organized a training program – 'Kayakalpa Payirchi', for our girl students on 11

January, sponsored by Sri Kumaran Thanga Maligai Trust and Aliyar Ulaga Samuthaya Seva Sangam. Trainer

Ms.Brindha Devi gave intense training in 'Kayakalpam' to 188 students. Dr. Sudhandera Devi highlighted the

importance of Yoga and personal Hygiene in her address.

h On 12.01.2012, English Association 'Literati', organized an Elocution Competition on the topic “Anna Hazare's

fast, a significant victory of Democracy” in connection with Republic Day Celebrations.

h An Elocution Competition in Hindi, in connection with Republic Day Celebrations was conducted on 12.01.2012 on

the topic “Bharatiya Samaj Ki Naveentham Chu Nowthiya”.

h Martyr's Day was observed on 30.01.2012, in remembrance of those great souls who sacrificed their lives for the

cause of the nation.

h A Quiz programme on “General Awareness” was organized by English Association, “Literati” on February 8, 2012.

Fifty students (25 Teams) of UG and PG classes participated.

h Awareness Drive for students, who are interested in joining Indian Air Force, was organized by the Departments of

English and Biotechnology on 06.02.2012. The Wing Commanders of Air Force Administrative College,

Coimbatore. Mr. Vinod Sankar, and Mr. K.P. Harish Kumar were the resource persons. The programme

commenced with a motivational film which was followed by an informative talk on the procedures of joining Indian

Air Force and pamphlets were distributed to students.

h An Awareness Campaign on 'Organ Donation' was organized on 13.02.2012 by the Department of Biotechnology

at Malumachampatti. Principal Dr. P. Jeyaram presided. 52 students and 6 staff members participated.
