AnveshanaMystery of Ancient Indian Architecture
Indian architecture- Paradigm of Art !!!
Architecture of India is the most tangible and
awe-inspiring projection of India’s art, culture and global discourse
across thousands of years
Why are these just site seeing
spots?
Why are these not being
brought into main stream
architecture?
Why are traditional houses and
buildings being replaced by
modern architecture?
Why aren’t traditional tried
and tested scientific concepts
behind Indian architecture not
being incorporated in modern
construction?
Why is the awareness so low
about different forms of Indian
architecture?
However some questions still remain
unanswered!!
Anveshana, Sanskrit word which
literally means exploration, is a
project and campaign to bring back
the glory of dying traditional
architecture of India. It basically
involves a research oriented
methodology to make traditional
architecture relevant in current times
in terms of designing, technology,
durability and aesthetic appeal.
Objectives:
• Finding a lost design culture
• Identifying peculiarities in detailing of
some of the architectural masterpieces
• Exploring technology of design works
• Preserving designs to prevent from getting
extinct
• Deriving eco-friendly designs for current
times
• Documenting various aspects for the
benefit
of present and future generation
For this research we have chosen 4
different locations
Hampi – Hoysala Architecture, Moghal Architecture
Padmanabhapuram Palace – Nalukettu architecture (Modern
day vernacular architecture)
Madurai Meenakshi temple – Dravidian Architecture
Houses near Kerala and Malnad – Some of the ancient houses
which are built near western regions of Thirthahalli, south
canara (Udupi and Mangalore) and some houses in Kerala are
chosen.
Hampi
Why Hampi?
This place has many places based on
Hoysala, Dravidian, Nayyaks and Moghal
Architecture.
Musical pillars and their acoustics
Technology behind Lotus Mahal (Is it
modern day refrigerator technology?)
Design details such as Yali, Gopuram,
carnice styles etc.
Padmanabhapuram Palace
Why Padmanabhapuram Palace
A classic example of Nalukettu architecture.
It is a ready reference to the benefits of local available materials
in construction.
The flooring in the King’s courtyard has laid in such a way that
it has retained its shining from centuries.
The usage of Jalis which helps in achieving aesthetic lighting
and ventilation inside the house without compromising quality.
This place’s most significant design aspect is its sensitive
handling of light.
Its technology behind multi storey buildings.
Madurai Meenakshi
Temple
Why Madurai Meenakshi Temple
Dravidian Architecture and it’s signature
elements
The concept of Tanjoor paiting and it’s
sustainable features. (Usage of plants and
minerals to achieve long withstanding
paintings)
The designs to be observed in Raya
Gopuram, Façade of the halls in
Meenakshi temple, over all floor plan of
the temple
Ancient Residential Buildings
Technology behind sustainable architecture.
Effective usage of local materials.
Usage of Vastu Shastra for better architecture.
Identifying signature design and technology
Among these places.
